I agree. The audio is wonderful. Have you listened to the recent (Dec. 2021) Mahler 4th with Dudamel and the Concertgebouw Orchestra? It is also stunningly well recorded (use those headphones 🎧), and the performance is a joy. Here’s the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SzPZrvz22sk.html *(I left very detailed time stamps and the complete 4th movement text in German & English in the comments, if you’re interested.)* 😎🎹
That's what struck me about this performance. There are many fine performances of Mahler's 4th, but the recording engineers contribute almost as much to this one as the musicians.
The first time I've heard Ruhevoll digitally; I'm used to hearing LP noise under it( I buy classical LP's at thrifts). WOW, an extra dimension...so warm, subtle, and sublime.
Not only is it a joy to listen, but in these hard days it's a joy to watch a performance such as this. A great thanks to the orchestra and its marvelous conductor. To all stay save.
Grazie grazie a tutti!!!!! Tanti applausi a scena aperta.
i know Im randomly asking but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me!
@@braydenmustafa4478 Andres is our gem here in the Houston, Texas area and unfortunately this is his last season here. Going out with a huge "bang" conducting Mahler's second, can't wait to see it. Best wishes in Vienna!
This heavenly symphony is my Mahler favourite. I used to hear my CD with my kids at sleep time. To see this wonderful version has been a nostalgic gift for me. Thanks a lot
Fantastic quality audio and filming. Not only that, but the timing of the symphony is near perfect...not rushed in anyway, and exactly as GM annotated. Thank you!
This presentation introduced so many new episodes, for me anyway, it was my favored Mahler, so heard it many many times, and this was still new. Congratulation is for the Orchestra and especially for the Conductor.
Enhorabona a tots!! Y a Frankfurt
Stupendous! Bravo! I’ve been listening to this symphony 25+ years, yet in this account I heard details I’ve missed before. Wonderful clarity, and emphasis on its Haydnesque orchestral writing! 😀

This was my very favorite Mahler symphony - before I discovered that they are all my favorites! The Fourth has a charm all its own, however, more delicate, more naive, exemplifying the childlike faith that Christ said is needed to enter Heaven. As depicted here, at 46:22, the first sight of Heaven's splendor may not seem as overwhelming as in Bernstein's New York Philharmonic recording, but Orozco-Estrada throughout emphasizes the work's Classic rather than Romantic aspect, and it works well. The orchestra as always, was excellent, as was soprano Erdmann.
This is the first Mahler symphony I ever heard. I was sixteen and a high school friend who was a musician introduced it to me. I remember the soprano soloist was Jennie Tourel and I think the conductor was Fritz Reiner. I believe the 4th Symphony is the best symphony for a Mahler introduction, maybe the 1st could work.
I so agree with Mr.Woodall. The conductor superbly conveys all the aspects of 'The Heavenly Life' that Mahler gives focus to. The recording as sound is exceptional. There is a haunting beauty of the orchestral playing and direction that is impressive and memorable. I want to hear more from this elegant musical conductor. I understand he has been appointed the LSOs new Guest Conductor so perhaps I will. I will certainly listen to this recording again.

Only that the child was starved to death before entering "heaven", and the last movement was the child's last wish before death. Indeed, all the childlike things just make this fact more heart-breaking. I believe this is the one that marks the dark turn of Mahler symphonies.
I believe Leonard Bernstein felt that Mahler's symphonies prefigure the Holocaust. That may be reading too much into the music, but Mahler was a brilliant and sensitive man who may have had a horrible vision,
@@murrayaronson3753honestly that’s a good take. He even predicted his child dying and it happened. The fifth funeral March, the sixth symphony in general can easily be a prediction to the horrible events of the Holocaust
One of the most beautiful and moving musical works, I’m very drawn to in these heightened times, but the lyrics include the innocent lamb brought up to slaughter. How barbaric, disturbing but it’s still beautiful heavenly music drawing us into higher realm than the dark spots
Beautifully played with some real licence given to the senior players. Beautifully sung and presented also by Mojca - if she's in her early forties, I am a hot cross bun!
"Mojca" is officially listed as a soprano but what is a Mahlerian soprano? They need an incredible range, and this young Hambergerin is very powerful. I'll be watching her career. Of course rf does a stellar job of 4.
It's rather obvious that Mahler is more cerebral than emotive. His use of sound is more to do with the idea of music and less to do with the feelings it might engender. I find it strange that so many feel drawn to his music to the degree they are.
What a weird comment - Mahler is all emotion unlike what my grandson calls the 'diddly-dee' composers. And where does emotion come from? The brain, of course, the cerebrum and cerebellum, particularly the limbic system. Have you ever seen an emotive stone???
Agree with the replies here. I hear all sorts of human sounds or sounds that easily evoke feelings by synaesthesia: happy sighs, wistful sighs, laughs, catchy rhythms, wails, shrieks, stabs of fear, terrifying crescendi, roars of chaos, manic accelerandi, tentativenesd, reckless abandon.
O. K., I've been listening to Mahler for 45 years, but who is this guy, and who is this band? Seriously. I've listened to the 3rd for said number of years, but I swear, I never HEARD it until these people kindly played me the REAL 3rd this afternoon. What sorcery is this, when AOE/Frankfurt can make my man Mahler sound so vastly better than he is already? Mein Gott! I WILL be back.
@@brianwilliamsart Sorry to get back to everyone so late! I MEANT that I had listened to the Third earlier that day and, after I had gathered my lower jaw from off the floor, I had to go looking for another example of this magic, to see if AOE/Frankfurt's 3rd was just a fluke. It wasn't.
That might be because the only low brass in the symphony are the horns-the trombones and tuba are absent. Mahler originally wanted to add trombones and tuba for just that moment, but he couldn't bring himself to.

A great performance by the symphony, but a lot of very questionable camera work. So many interesting things were missed while the cameras were focusing on trivial stuff. Take the glissandi in the low strings at the end of the 2nd movement, for example. Visually fun to watch, yet totally ignored in favor of watching the clarinets sustaining notes.
If you didn’t know, Mahler generally orchestrates his symphonies as chamber orchestras where different soloists come out at different times to play different themes together, and usually only has the full orchestra blaring out at climaxes, so this is exactly how it’s meant to be done. Moreover, Mahler 4 is considered a rather tame symphony as compared to his other symphonies as it is almost entirely based on the poem of Das himmlische Leben in the set of poems called Das Knaben Wunderhorn. Bravo to FRSO and Maestro Orozco Estrada for this amazing recording. Definitely one of my go-to modern 21st century recordings of Mahler 4
