This man was cold blooded and vastly underrated. The fact that he was ostracized for his beliefs is exactly what was/is wrong with the “land of the free”.
What’s not in these highlights is how he never missed from the line. One of the greatest to never be talked about. Sounds like he’s finally getting some recognition but not enough and not from the NBA. Forget numbers, watch his highlights against any other guards’.
I’m not even a Curry fan but these casuals say he couldn’t play in the 90’s. Rauf was doing back then what Curry does to defenders now in the NBA. He was a special talent but had a short career.
@@jarvasedundy1 right? Only disliked the warriors when KD arrived but before and after they are great in my book. Nothing but respect the built that team from nothing
Curry does not play like Rauf. Not saying he couldn't play back then, but Rauf isn't the proof. Rauf was far more quick and athletic and was way more midrange dominant
Even though his carrier was stopped short and they traied to black ball him. The one thing the NBA could not do (thanks to social media and you tube and to all that watched him play ) was take away his high lights amd poeples memories of him
First saw him when he played at LSU. He was chill in college and then turned to ice 🧊 in the NBA! They NBA needs to honor this man for blackballing him
To me, the most impressive thing about Mahmoud’s shooting is his extreme focus. He is NEVER, and I mean NEVER, bothered by defenders in his face no matter how close they are. He was an incredibly feared shooter and got a ton of attention, yet it was always like he was shooting in a gym by himself. That’s utterly amazing considering his small size compared to the length and height of guys he played against every night.
Y'all don't understand how good this man actually was at the game of basketball. He was a legend. We were all robbed to not see his greatness. Come to a try on think conclusion. Like this is a guy who could stand up to the greatest player of all time and I'm telling you man we were all robbed. To this day I'm still pissed off that I didn't get to watch this man flourish in a nation where you're supposed to be able to flourish . We all know this country is about to fall now. Anyway. There was a time it could have been healed but it's beyond saving now. I hope someday it can rise from its ashes but if not so long USA I will miss you.
The true most pure shooter in nba history. His issue is he never played on a playoff/championship winning team. His shots and degree of difficulty is mind blowing. I remember watching him when he was still Chris Jackson before the name change.
After Muhammad Ali, Abdul Rauf (Chris Jackson) followed suit and was shunned because of his religious belief. Before Colin Kaepernick's kneeling down, Rauf prays to his Allah during National Anthem and paid dearly for what he stood for and continued to do so. But the man can truly ball.
@@j_abesit’s his era, mid range was considered a better, more efficient shot. If he played today he would most certainly have a Dame/Steph style of play. Layup or 3
He had some great plays and stats but it was kinda sad seeing those huge losing point spreads on some of the games. The Nuggets had some decent players in the 90's with Abdul-Rauf, Mutombo, Dale Ellis, McDyess, etc, but it wasn't enough for them to be a winning team.
This wonderful man was one of the few who could torch Jordan during his prime. I watched him play against the mighty bulls during the 90s and he was an absolute assassin.
MAR used to cook. I hated when my Rox played the Nuggets. He's one of the few players I've ever seen constantly snap the net with his J...cold blooded.
This guy was amazing, Awesome shooter, perfect form, and lightning fast. I believe the only reason he didn’t have the career success as Wardell Stephen Curry (other than playing in an era where “big men” dominated the ball, versus today which is more perimeter-oriented) is that it must have been physically difficult for him to shoot the NBA distance 3-pointer. He was only 6’ and 160 lbs. Do you know how hard it is to shoot a 23’9” shot? It’s a hell of a long distance to shoot a basketball, especially at his size. Wardell is 3” taller and 30 lbs heavier, makes a huge difference shooting 3’s. You’ll notice that when the NBA went to a 22’ 3-pointer in 1994, Rauf’s 3-point percentage went up to almost 40%, versus below 35% at the longer distance. But either way, Rauf was a tremendous player in college and still did very well in the NBA
I remember first seeing Chris Jackson at LSU with Shaq and Chris was the top scorer on the team. As others have said, he was punished in his career for his religious conversion to Islam.
Not punished for converting to Islam or being Muslim. Kareem was Muslim and he wasn't punished. Olajuwon was Muslim and he wasn't punished. What made people have a negative view of Mahmoud Abdul Rauf was his refusal to stand for the American national anthem. Not saying that is right or wrong, but I was at a game where he was sitting down and you could hear people in the stands complaining about it.
@@wauliepalnuts6134Abdul-Rauf (Jackson) was persecuted because his beliefs did not align with white Christian-Americans. Olajuwan is a completely different circumstance. He was born a Muslim in an African country, so he doesn't count. Muhammad Ali was famously stripped of his title. When Abdul-Jabbar converted, many white Americans resented it as well, but Ali has already blazed that trail by then. A country that was founded on religious freedom and freedom of expression, exhibited hypocrisy when punishing Abdul-Rauf over the ational Anthem. Just as when they blacklisted Kaepernik years later.
@@SkammLykelee Big deal. He was booed for not standing up for the national anthem. Meanwhile, a quran gets burned and you act like the world is ending.
A very solid player, What a shame the way the NBA did this man over his beliefs in a country where a person is supposed to be free to think as he wishes
Literally his game was symmetrical to Steph to the smallest tendencies it’s crazy when you look at what the league could’ve been if he was fully unleashed , sucks that religious reasons kept us from a full career of him
No he did not 😂😂😂😂 but they do play a lot like. People forget steph curry had one of the coldest shooter teachers as far as his dad in the history of the n b a
in ALL honesty JESUS H CHRIST i am were + will be 100%/COMPLETELY PROUD of rauf 4 NOT standing 4 the national anthem JESUS H CHRIST it's NOT illegal AT ALL so why does it matter AT ALL whether or NOT if people stand up + remove their hats JESUS H CHRIST it SHOULD be OPTIONAL + or NOT required AT ALL ESPECIALLY since it's NOT illegal AT ALL
And ESPN keep fooling genz they were all plumbers. Tell you this, Raouf is a top5 in today's NBA with his style but was not even top10 during his tenor. This should tell you all you need to know how much better 90s and 2000 ball was
