Mahmoud Abdul Rauf was destined to be one of the greatest shooting guards of all time had he not been blackballed by the the NBA due of his personal faith & convictions. He's a pure shooter and fun to watch in & outside the 3 point line. His time with the Nuggets was short and sweet. Such a shame the NBA's heavily involled in politics. Kudos to you sir for having integrity & still sharing your love for the game. 👍
Wow! You're right! I just wrote to that site stating that they need to make that correction; that's not good. So we'll see what happens... Thx for the headsup.
Their response to my email: "The threshold that is used to qualify for career FT% leaderboard is 1200 made free throws. Abdul-Rauf only made 1051, not enough to reach the qualifying threshold." 😒
@@jblegend5272 they sent him to hell (Sacramento) for sitting during the Nat'l Anthem then telling an uncomfortable truth about the song when asked. The league fined him until he stood but the damage was done already. You could see him praying while he stood so there was also a touch of early islamaphobia. Anyway, his performance slowed down, he was never re-signed.
As a child.... My favorite shooter to watch in the NBA! He will always be the greatest shooter to play the game....in my eyes. 95% percent free throw shooter!...unheard of Brother Mahmoud Abdul Rauf.....LEGEND!!!💯💪🏿✊🏿
I watched almost all of his LSU games and he was the best shooter and scorer ever. He was Action Jackson! In the NBA the Denver Nuggets offense stifled his game. They ran strict plays that didn’t all Mahmoud the opportunity to drive and shoot more freely. They wasted his strength.
I remember a game at LSU when he went off for 40. Unheard of in college at that time. I was in awe. His name was Chris. That was before his enlightment...
One of the great nba scorers. Could flat out get his shot off with no rush or pressure. When he was hot he was there with the best of them. Great player. Would love to learn more from himb.
I love to see him back! He was a great player for the Denver Nuggets. I am glad I had the chance to see him play against the Houston Rockets when I was in America.
This gentleman is a pioneer and a basketball savant. Thank you for the wisdom sir. I've watched him go at Michael Jordan and countless others. Hands down one of the purest shooters ever!!!! Thank you for posting this.🙏
That’s the best shooting advice I’ve ever watched explaining form etc..I’m so happy to see Mahmoud is relaxed, no more uncomfortable turrets, and content. In today’s game with smaller lineups, open offenses with movement, along with fast breaks he would be one of the top scorers in the NBA. Yes, he was Steph Curry before Curry only faster and an even better handle.
Aaron Davis based on this video alone, you can already tell Mahmoud got that work ethic goin for him, but I do agree that some players will just end up more talented, and Curry happens to be more talented than Mahmoud. Only Curry haters/GSW haters/nostalgic fans will say otherwise.
The G.O.A.T. in terms of shooting! If you could watch Caesar conquering Europe in real time this is what Rauf looked like when he was dominating the world of basketball. So happy I watched the game in his prime in the 90s. :)
During his time at LSU, I don't remember a single shot that he missed. Yes, I know he missed a few, but I don't remember them. Favorite college player... ever.
One of the best to put in work.... Mahmoud was a BEAST... and did it all with an affliction... although some may say the Tourette’s may have actually helped his game because he couldn’t leave the gym until the ball, the floor, EVERYTHING had to FEEL right before He could leave... He said in an interview that the shot not only had to fall, the NET had to flick the same way after the ball went through or He couldn’t leave the gym... A class act, one of the greats... got railroaded out of the league on some Kapernick type garbage... but that’s another story... He would very likely lead the league in free throw percentage and scoring if He were still playing today....
The world needs more sportsmen like Rauf, Kapernick and Ali. In years to come, society will view Rauf and Kaep as enlightened, conscientious Americans who paid a great price for the greater good of their country.
Proud to see people remember Abdul-Rauf for standing tall on his convictions. Gives me hope that, despite the immediate backlash, athletes of this era who take a stand will be looked back on as heroes.
This dude had the original crossover as Chris Jackson at LSU. It was so Nasty you almost didn’t see him do it and had to go through a replay to see it!!!
Mahmoud Abdul Rauf doesn't just make the shot, he makes it in a way that makes the ball come back to him so he doesn't go chase after it. That's levels.
Yes one the smoothest PLAYER(not just guards) I've ever seen, always under control dribbling the ball, shooting the jump shot(long or short range), repeated technique at foul line, and a bit of nasty if necessary (small but never afraid). Please keep teaching the game, outstanding role model👏👏.
Mahmoud Abdul Rauf is one of the best basketball players to ever play the game. He’s in my top 5 all-time NBA players. He’s definitely THE BEST college player I’ve ever seen play at that level.
HE is so brillant and he said it all. Listen to this fantastic person and amazing shooter. he has still the perfect shot. Thanks a lot and all the best to you MAR!
I used to hate when he was playing for the Nuggets because he used to always get open and bang a shot. He was so good at getting to his shot. And it was robotic on how accurate he was. I hate he got black balled by them hypocrites. Mississippi native like I am, also. God bless you bro. Thank you for showing us how to truly how to stick to your beliefs.
I had the fortunateness to meet him at a basketball tournament., He was amazing, his best play, he crossed up this dude at half court and then at half court spinned and took a fade away shot splash, whole area went berserk
That was a great breakdown about what you need to know about how to shoot a basketball accurately. Good tip about how to grip the ball with your shooting hand, and where to place your off hand. I see many teenage players put their off hand fingers BEHIND the ball as they load up to shoot. This leads to shooting the ball with both hands, and not as accurate as possible. You also noted you have to develop muscle memory by shooting the ball many, many times. This man is a great shooter, and he is telling you how he does it for free. I wish I had RU-vid when I was a teenager just learning basketball. I got most of my instruction from basketball books. Not even close to what you get from RU-vid.
One of the greatest shooters to ever have walked this earth. Look up the percentages. Don’t just take my word for it. If Mahmoud is talking about shooting, I’m listening.
cool08player exactly what they actually done was capped the qualifying minimum free throw shot attempts to 12000 and they knew he was like only 30 short of that. That's some crooked bullshit!!
Melad Bazzi as Mahmoud himself said once, what they did to him is a sad lesson of how some people people are.. its really an honor that i talked to him once.. he is my legend..
Crazy how now I’m just remeberin I seen h before some people disappeared and stuff I remembered playing with him on 2k as a kid I was like 8 or 9 😳 I where good
My favorite player growing up. Being a 5’10” and light-skinned point guard, in the south, who better to emulate. I was no where close to being as good but he was definitely inspirational.
All the youngsters out there really pay attention to what he said at the end. when you are shooting by yourself you really want to be around 90%. I’ve seen really good shooters time and time again, shooting by themselves and it’s almost like they can’t miss.
