You should check out Ben Solak from the ringer. He did some really interesting analysis on Brock about a month ago and gives Brock credit for the plays he makes that are clearly better than what Jimmy G did but also shows how Brock benefits in ways that no other QB in the NFL does based on play calling and personnel.

did he talk about this 20th ranked pass blocking o line? Purdy has good ball catchers but a bottom third o line. They had the lowest ranked pass protection rate on any playoff team. People always fail to realized what a disadvantage that is for Brock. In comparison The chiefs have the number 1 pass blocking unit, packers with the 2nd and the detroit around 3-5 I think. If you gave Brock a good o line, he would SHREAD every defense.@@francescosmith7859

He reads plays well, he’s a leader, he can make tight throws and long throws. You want to know who also got explosive plays from a coach who replaces runs with short screens. Who had a wide out that would carry plays for long, explosive plays. Patrick Mahomes. He’s not an MVP but besides Patrick Mahomes, no other QB would increase 49ers chances of winning.

Nick’s mental gymnastics to redefine “game manager” with a positive definition for Mahomes, when the term has always been used as a negative attribute, is really a fun watch. People don't understand how hard it is to get to the Super Bowl... injuries, officiating, roster turnover, crazy ball bounces, coaching, player performances... it's very reasonable that Mahommes and the Chiefs never make it back. Of course, he could go to 1-5+ more, it's just not likely.

It’s usually a backhanded compliment to say that’s all a player can be. Nick’s point is that Mahomes can do it all which is true, but he has been quite revisionist on Purdy which is not so true, and I’d rather he just own up and say “I was wrong about Purdy’s potential, but I still believe in Patrick more” which is a perfectly reasonable take.

I get that Purdy has accomplished a lot but for folks to be this upset over a mild criticism is a bit much. It just seems that the supporters are getting just as unobjective as the critics.

Nick actually found a way to make me agree with him. His description of Mahomes was right on… his take on Purdy was critical (in an analytical way), acknowledging of his capabilities without being hyperbolic derogatory or dismissive.

He picked them to not win the division preseason, picked against them when they played the Cowboys, picked against them when they played the Eagles, consistently ranked them below Dallas even though it was clear who was better, said if the game was close, they would lose against GB, picked against them vs Detroit. Funnily enough, the one spot he picked them in was against Baltimore where they got destroyed.

I’m a Chiefs fan but Nick Wright is a huge reason why people can’t stand the Chiefs. They are good. Mahomes is great but Nick he’s not the only great player in the NFL. Give credit where it’s due. Purdy got SF to the SB. In my eyes he has NOTHING to prove. Win or lose I salute/respect the guy. He’s done something many players never get to experience!
