i for one really like to see the mailbag monday stuff. Sometimes there are those little gems that pop upl "yes... just what i was looking for!" and others are just curiosities, but made to "interesting curiosities" just by you explaining and talking about them :)

Funny story, when i was a kid (more than 25 yrs ago) me and my neighbor stole a couple of those aluminum caps for each one from a random car in the street, at that time having aluminum caps on your bicycle was the coolest thing ever moreover if your bike had 21 gears lol, and what you know? the car belonged to a women police officer who catch us in the act 😂, we gave them immediately back and ask for sorry, but still she took us to the police station and threatened us saying that our parents will receive a letter from the police, until today nothing has arrived and now i just lol at the situation, that was our biggest crime in our lives 😂🤣

Cheap solution: take a sharpie and make a mark where "up" should be. Nicer solution: use a label maker, couple spaces and then a capital "I". Nice brite line on the pen

I think you were the one that convinced me to start buying parts on ebay. So cheap and so convenient. I don't need to go to digikey for non-critical parts.

If those valve caps are alumin[i]um, beware that they might develop a very strong attraction™ to the different metal of the valve. Had a set (not these specific ones) on the wheels of my car, and had to resort to two channel locks, one to hold the body of the valve still, and the other to turn the cap, with a good amount of force, to get them off. A little silicon grease and more frequentlyvtaking them on/off might help.

yes! what you said! many tyre valve stems are brass or phosphor bronze for corrosion reasons. but aluminium can amalgamate easily to those thin threads cutting into it due to it's rapid oxide layer forming over the thread, like a reverse mold. It's not immediate, but if those dust caps aren't removed frequently or lightly greased, you're looking at a trip for new valve at best, or inner tube. It's the spare tyre that always gets caught out on this. Also, salt gritted roads.. they dont help either.
