I can’t tell you how much it warms my heart to see you and your dad together. I lost my dad in 2019 and what I would give to be able to have him back for anything at all. Treasure the time you guys have together! Cheers and best wishes!
I'm enjoying this video 3 yrs after you posted, Jacob. What a pleasure to watch you and your dad enjoy a beautiful day on the water, fishing together! PLUS the good food you caught!!! My father was a hunter & observing his happiness when he brought home Elk and quail for our table is one of my earliest memories. (that would have been after WWII post 1945) As a woman, there is nothing as exciting and wonderful as having a man bring home food he harvested! (as a young mom, I raised rabbits for our table -- I was content knowing they were raised on clean feed in very large hutches.) Time on the ocean is time well spent. Congratulations on your lifestyle. Very admirable!
You and your dad sharing moments like these is pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing with us! Also really cool 4 generations of father and son sharing the same hobby, passion and line of work.
Love the fishing but your giggle catching those big ones with your Dad was extremely special! Treasure those moments. I was fishing with my Dad when he had a heart attack. It was never the same. Thank you for reminding me of those special times!
Halibut . One of the most tasteist fish in the ocean . I worked on an Icelandic longline boat and now and again we would put a Redfish head on the hooks going out .With some good results !
I agree with the commentary… I love your excitement over yr catch! I’m a 58 yr old women who grew up on Long Island NY fishing since I have a kid.. As I got older.. I started fishing from time to time on a commercial fishing boat.. All I can say is.. When I get the call.. and I’m taking off and going fishing… I learn something ever time on the boat… I wish I could have been a mate!
I was laughing so hard. My dad was a shell fisherman in RI. DAY OFF HE WAS FISHING A BROUGHT IN FLOUNDER AND TOSSED IT UP ON THE GRASS. as a 2 year old I was bent over with my hands under my chin looking at the fish and one jumped up and grabbed me by the elbow. My favorite to fish for.
Interesting..... very interesting. Had halibut this week for the first time in my life.... and I am 75 and born/raised in Maine. Super delicious. thank you for sharing. Oh, my Norwegian Forest Cat loves halibut. Sorry bout that. :)
Thanks brotha for the great video..sure makes me wish my Dad and father in-law were still around to enjoy those great fishing days...great to see you with your dad on that boat...
You & your Dad are great together! Cherish the moments! I've never eaten Halibut, now I want to try it! In south Fla. My favorites are Red Snappers, Sheepheads, Mai Mai, Grouper...I've had big game fish as well, they are all really good eating!
You did very well on a flash fishing trip. One of my favorite meals is Halibut baked then a broiled finish with bread crumbs and real butter, wild rice cooked in German white wine, homemade ice cream with fresh picked strawberries. Yum!
Does your coop sell retail and ship? If so, or if you know of someone who sells retail and ships would you please post info? We are out and I would like to order some Halibut and Scallops. Thanks!
Of all the Northern hemispere fish I would like to have in southern waters halibut is it. The biggest flatfish we have in Australia is flounder, they dont get as big as the small one you threw back.
I fished halibut about 10 miles off Homer Alaska, and they are interesting to catch. But the meat is incredible and even a guy who doesn’t like “fishy” LOVES halibut. Those fish are great around the 30-50 pound range, but I’ve seen that they can get as large as 800#!!!
When I lived in Alaska my other half's cousin went halibut fishing. I took some pieces, put McCormick grill mates seasoning... Three different ones...and corn meal. Placed the seasoning in a Ziploc tossed the fish in... Lightly coated... Heated a fry pan with just a little olive oil... Skin side down until halfway cooked, flipped them over and finished cooking... Don't over cook it turns kinda chewy
Looks like fun. But one quick bit of advice. Buy a vacuum packing machine. It doesn't need to be a big expensive one, but I've had such good luck with meat and veggies frozen in the thick pouches with no air. But you can get a decent smaller commercial type one for about $300. But I've had a $135 food saver since 2005 that has only needed new foam gaskets every few years. It really keeps foods fresh and freezer burn free.
I had some Halibut at the Portland Airport lol (They were fried in cube /nuggets and some of the best fish! ). I wonder how it would taste that fresh!!
congrats on hitting 1k subs, and being able to monetarize. You've got a great channel, and you totally understand modern social media. Keep them coming!!
I've lobster fished all over there and the lunds bait ive hauled alot from cape may to home. We use to haul it bulk 5 feet deep on the reefer trailer floor
Nice Halibut always wanted to catch one on rod and reel. Last year Here on Cape Cod I fought a tuna for three hours stuck him and had the gaff on the tail went berserk pulled the gaff out of my hands and snapped the leader .Towed me for half hour and pulled the Lilly. my next tuna was 675 lb got 1.50 a pound that sucked.Great video
- 15:43 when he burns his hand he will know what hot means. Trust me my son learned the hard way with my baby father. I learned when I was little also, I heard, "don't touch it's hot", but I didn't understand what it meant until I hurt myself.
Hey Jacob, do you have any videos of Lobster fishing? I left Maine way back in 1981. I sure miss it! I lived in Limestone for 3 years. Maine has a Great fishery that's well managed. I now live in California. I do a lot of fishing out the Golden Gate for salmon and halibut! Of course we have different species of halibut and salmon. Pacific and California halibut, and the mighty King Salmon and Coho. We also have many species of tuna off the Southern coast like bluefin! But nothing like the bluefin there! The bluefin tuna is definitely on my bucket list! Also I don't know if you can see my picture but we also do a lot of Sturgeon fishing in the Sacramento River. Anyway great video of you and your dad doing your thing! Maybe someday I'll make it back to Maine.
I have a couple videos showing some lobstering on here not a lot. Not sure if you have tik tok or not but I have more lobster fishing stuff on there! Sounds like you have some fun fisheries out there!! Thanks for the comment
I was really impressed with the long lining technique! Never seen that before for Halibut! Must be a commercial thing! Funny thing! I've actually started looking at property online for land off the coast of Maine. I found some nice property up in the Penobscot area. I remember the winters being a little rough compared to Northern California. LOL! By the way those were some nice size Halibut! What's the biggest you've caught! And where exactly are you located? How far North do they chase the Bluefin?
Nice Bert's There was a few big ones caught this year I heard one guy had one 185 Any Bert is a good one I may give it a try next year I always wanted to just haven't yet
