thank you for your video. I want to replace my stator cover because it has some damages (no oil leakages) it looks not nice anymore. my question is-do you need use the silicone kit anyway even when I have no problems with leakages?
@shedsomer6843
@shedsomer6843 5 лет назад
NA Na the repair manual says to use it for the spot around the grommet. I haven’t tried to put it on without it before so I’m not sure if it would end up leaking. I would recommend using some sort of silicone or yamahbond silicon, which is the Yamaha version that is used
@shedsomer6843
@shedsomer6843 5 лет назад
And you will need a replacement paper gasket because the old one will be ruined when you pull of the cover as well

So if you don’t seal the grommet will the cover leak oil? Because I’ve taken this thing off twice to try and put it on again but I never sealed the grommet

I can’t really answer that for sure, I’m sure there’s a chance it wouldn’t leak. I used the sealant because it’s what was in the repair manual I had

What all tools did you use ?
@shedsomer6843
@shedsomer6843 5 лет назад
Itachi_Heartnet for taking off the stator cover I used a ratchet with a I believe 8mm Allen head, I may be wrong on the size I would have to check. And then putting it back on I used a torque wrench with the same Allen. I think the bolts holding the stator in place are the same if I remember correctly. To remove the fairing to get to the stator cover it was just a philips head screwdriver or a 4mm Allen now that I converted the fairing bolts

@lu.is300
@lu.is300 6 лет назад
did the swap about 2 weeks ago, everything was clean. It gave me one more problem, the regulator rectifier. For anyone who has a 99-02 r6,the stator does not begin to charge the battery until about 6,000 RPMs. The rectifier has a tendency of burning out on these bikes as well just do to positioning. You can go on eBay all you want and buy them for $20 but its going to burn out and you are going to be stranded. It happened to me. I read around, and the best way to avoid being stranded with a dead bike is to buy the Regulator Rectifier for a 02 GSXR 600. It Works! I've been running it and have had no problems with the charge what so ever. Good Luck to anyone doing this and thanks for the stator tutorial, helped me so much
@shedsomer6843
@shedsomer6843 6 лет назад
Just Lu. When I was changing my stator and diagnosing the problems I was having I had check my rectifier and someone before me had cut all of the wires and put different connectors on them which was odd, my grandfather and I checked the rectifier with a multimeter and determined it was working. But it definitely seems like the rectifier is a common problem as well. Thank you for the info and suggestion to others!

@shedsomer6843
@shedsomer6843 6 лет назад
nick the way I look at it is, if you are going to spend money on something such as a watch or a bike or really anything to enjoy it. Can you fully enjoy it if you are afraid for anything to happen to it. I understand that it could get scratched and it has many scratches on it but in the two or so years I have had the watch I’ve gotten my use from it and I’m okay with accumulating more wear. To me it’s like a pocket knife carried in your pocket day after day, eventually the paint wears off and turns lighter, I see it as showing the daily ‘life’ of the object and it shows almost a character. That’s just my thoughts on it but I definitely can understand your side of it, just figured I’d throw out they way I have always viewed things like that

ShedSome R6 thanks for the quick replies bud. Really appreciate it. It was my first time taking off my stator cover a couple months ago and now that it’s nice out in New England it’s time to bring her out. And ended up with oil all over my shoe haha. Bee in the Clouds anytime! And the first time I took mine of it was definitely a little nerve racking but after the first time it seemed like a fairly straight forward thing.
