All true. I was born and raised in NYC (Bronx). I've lived in LA since 1990. I came here for grad school and ended up staying here indefinitely. I do miss home, I'm happy to go back to see my family for visits, and check out old haunts, but LA? It's home. Work is here, weather is here. I can't choose between the two, but luckily, thank God, I had the good fortune of being born and raised in one of the best cities in the world, I've been able to live my adult life here in one of the world's other best cities, and I've been able to travel back and forth between the two. It's been amazing. Equally great places in their own unique ways.

Seems like you got the best of both worlds. I was born in Detroit, and I'm now living in Georgia. I'll most likely be going to college in New York, which I think will be great for me. I'm fairly shy and can be fearful. New York will teach me how to be more shameless, bold, and how to hustle. That's what attracted me to it. I need a push!

Makaveli Moon It will definitely push you! I became such a hard worker and learned how to be more direct, without being rude. I loved the pace and the hustle and that everyone is working their butts off. One thing that was tough was that since everyone works so hard, it can be hard to really connect and make friends. That may have just been my experience but it seemed like a lot of people were flakey because everyone is so busy. I still loved it though :)

I live in Maryland, been to NYC millions of times, been to LA twice ( just came back from there 2 weeks ago on the 12th of January). It depends on what you like really. Transportation is better in NY just cause the trains go pretty much everywhere and NYC is condensed vs LA that is SO FREAKING spread out and the trains don't cover everything. NY is more fast paced, LA is more laid back. People are much nicer in LA I find. There's a lot to do in both cities, I do like the 3 hours difference when i'm in LA. Cost of living is definitely higher in Manhattan, it varies all throughout LA. Personally I would definitely pick LA over NY cause NY Is just way too fast and people move like machines over there. In LA you can go to the beach, youre surrounded by mountains everywhere, you can go hiking, got to downtown, Venice beach and all that. Its a matter of preference though.

I'm really sorry. You must of run into the "industry crowd" or at least wannabes. As a native So Cal I went to elementary school with Cory Feldman. At the time he was in the Bad news Bears( the t.v. I don't live in LA or NYC, but I think I go with New York City. NYC is for me the definition of a city. I'm sure some New Yorkers know what a "hell" NY was back in the day (late 60s/early 90s). Is some of that still there? I mean, TImes Square looks like Disneyland, I prefer the old Times Square, based on photo's from now and back in the day.

I am an Ex-NYCer but living in California for business reasons. I agree with maybe half of what this gal is saying and I do regularly visit NYC to see old friends, do business, and relatives. I have to add that NYCers if you get beyond the blunt demeanor, they tend to me much deeper as people and can make great friends. You know where you stand with NYCers if they like to don't like you whereas it is hard in California to see beyond those smiles. You have deeper and meaningful conversations from NYCers than California's namely that of Southern California. There are always good people anywhere so I am not trying to say All Californians are like that or NYCers for that matter. This joke came from my friend from San Francisco that it takes 5 southern Californians to screw on a light bulb. 1 to do it and the other 4 to enjoy the experience and that California is like a granola bar (land of the fruits nuts, and the flakes) Weather is far better out in California of course. NYCers beats the Californians in meaningful conversations and that is what we do when we hang out in NYC where as a conversation in California goes faster than a NY minute. California tends to be very emblem-oriented such as what neighborhood you live in or what car you drive. NYC isn't that way as much since it is true that many NYCers don't have cars. We jokingly refer to them as AH (air heads) but they joking refer to us as another initials denoting a part of our anatomy (sorry ..I don't cuss). LOL. All in all, there are good and bad wherever you live and just make the best of it and adapt. Both states are victims of incompetent mayors of cities. Both are very expensive to live in as for major cities although I say NYC is more expensive and parking is super expensive except that us native NYCers just know where to park for free and how to do it and you have to be a great parallel Parker in NYC and learn to park fast and edge out the next guy wanting to race to steal your spot. Lastly, you cannot make a right turn after a full stop at a red light in the 5 boroughs of NYC as you can in most other states but you can jay walk legally since your life is in your own hands if you get run over by a car or taxi. I miss NYC food badly (Pizzas, Chinese Food in Chinatown, Katz's Deli, etc) I actually have friends bring Katz's pastrami sandwiches on the plane coming to visit me in southern California. I can go on and on but don't take it personally. Us NYCers and Californian friends laugh at all our differences. I got a easter card from a Calif friend with a picture of a cartoon rabbit saying "What does the easter bunny say in New York?" Open the card and it says Jerks.....everyone calls each other a jerk..........

Having been to both cities a few times, I would take L.A. hands down. New York is just too gritty and the weather sucks ass in the winter. Go to L.A. in December and take a ride up the PCH from Santa Monica through Malibu up in Calabasas then tell me you want to go back to New York.
@blksophistication1908

why can't people talk about the good things about l.a. without mentioning the weather. neither city has control over the weather. if the question is what CITY is better NYC wins period even without a weather bonus.

blk sophistication the weather plays a big part on how you feel. Nothing like that first 70 degree day in NYC, but in L.A. everyday is the first day of Spring.

But I forgot how realistically refreshing and motivating you are to watch. You really are the basis of why I want to do what I want to do with my life. Although you may not see this, I just wanted to let you know the positive affect you've had on my life all of these years, in inspiring my new entrepreneurial goal at such a young age. I've sent to school in LA and NY for 9 months each. Currently commuting/working in NY. I definitely prefer LA over NY sooooooo much. Cost of living in LA is cheaper, definitely a more relaxed lifestyle, people over there be going to festivals, house parties, beaches, hiking, bonfires. I felt so much love in LA lol. I'm speaking from a 23 years old perspective who's always kinda struggling to make ends meet. With that being said, NY could possibly be the place of you have lots of money, but I still prefer LA as it's WAYYY less crowded on the transit, has the beaches nearby, absolutely great weather too. NY is currently hotter than LA these last couple days, plus the humidity and overpopulation doesn't help lol

+Devin Kyler Chance when I worked in L.A. My boss lived in Glendale which is like right next to L.A. She lived in a pretty nice apartment, that looks pretty safe.. You had to enter in a password so that the gate would open, same for the parking garage, and I think her rent was around $1,800 to $2,000.. She also has a roommate to split the cost of rent. Obviously you can't afford a place in L.A. If you're just working at McDonald's but if you have a decent job.. Then you can probably afford it.

Very good video. As a New Yorker myself. I love both Cities. They both have a plethora of things to offer. As far as entertainment, fun activities, shows, movies, restaurants etc. Like any city. You have to find out how to make the most of it. I will also say. That I have fond memories of the old New York from the 70's to the 90's. To me that's when NY was really "The Shit". I miss it SOOO FREAKIN MUCH! The sheer craziness of it all. Lol! My next trip to LA; next month will be looking for a condo/apartment downtown; or overlooking the city somewhere. Hopefully it won't be small like a typical Manhattan apartment; but more like my spot Uptown Bronx. My LA peeps on the lookout for me; with a decent marketable price.
