All of this smells bad for Dallas because it seems odd for DJJ to switch to Klutch Sports, then Lebron being willing to reduce his salary to fit other players. I bet my last dollar Rich Paul is feeding DJJ bad information to get him to go to LA. Meanwhile, Lebron is working his angle with Klay. I’m not saying I’m right but I feel I’m 80% on the right path with this.

I’m super conflicted on klay. I can see the benefits of getting him but for me it’s his personality. The little bit I know about him I don’t see him fitting with us chemistry wise & I’d hate to lose DJJ for someone who could try to force his way out in a year cause he doesn’t like his role.

Grimes is almost a replacement for DJJ. His defense is much more impactful that Josh’s but the knee injury does hamper his best skill. Quick feet and lateral quickness

If this doesn’t interfere w getting DJJ signed then go after Clay. I’m sure Nico can distinguish if his heart remains in GS. Some guys don’t do well after being w one team so long then having to reset elsewhere.

Mavs need 3pt shooter, so Klay as SF. Watch Luka's games for Slovenia. He has average players around him for the national team, but those players hit 3s way more than this Mavs final team. Klay would be a perfect piece of roster for potential champions team.

I have no problems with keeping Jones around although I think he’s gonna be overpaid. That said, isn’t that why they got Grimes? He’s a great on-ball defender against guards or small forwards. He also has a better jumpshot than Jones does, although it remains to be seen if he can score consistently in a team with values his contributions.

Agreed, Jones had a good year for him but how much of that is because he was playing with Luka and Kyrie. If he goes to any other team his play is probably going to revert to the mean ( might with Mavs too)

@@montaydobbins9341 that wasn’t my point. They got Grimes because he’s also a defensive player who can hit some three-point shots. If you pick up a 17 PPG shooting guard, who could also play some small forward, then you reduce the need for Jones which is fine because his spot can be filled by Grimes. Like I said, I have no problem keeping Jones as long as they don’t have to overpay for him. I had to suffer through the finals watching him brick wide open shot after wide-open shot and there’s no question he doesn’t deserve the kind of money he’s evidently looking for.

Did the Mavs pull the trigger on the THJ/Grimes trade too soon? They could have used that salary to sign-n-trade for Klay or Markkanen. Then wouldn't have to risk losing contributing players like Green and Kleiber like they do now.

Nah, they got a solid 3 and D return with Grimes and cut almost $13 mil of cap space with THJs dead contract which allows them to re-sign DJJ if they choose to. I don’t even know that Klay is thattt much better than Grimes for 5x or 6x more money. Also, contributing players like Kleber? Lol, they want to dump Kleber, he can’t shoot anymore and injuries have made him not the clamp defender he used to be. Hes bordering on being out of the rotation but his size keeps him in there for now.

Also if you think rotations, yes Kidd needs to work on, if he has grimes and another defensive minded person coming off the bench to rotate and the 2/3 it’s better than what we have We PU scoring, and space out D, give teams different looks. We saw that with the Celtics and we should model ourselves after that I love DJJ but man a 3 for 1 type of deal I’d take. Meaning PU shooting, and add a couple defensive players off the bench

Not that it matters since Dallas has never beat LA with FA’s but you guys are way off on Klay’s defense. Have you actually watched him play outside of Dallas games? His defense against anyone but shifty guards is still way above average. He’s still an insanely smart athlete that at has just lost some lateral quickness. In GS Wiggins and Kominga took the best wing player and Klay had to guard other guards when playing with Steph. Things looked 10x better when he played with Payton on the bench unit. So while I agree it’s better if we keep DJJ with him that isn’t the end all be all of this move. Also, Josh Green’s defense doesn’t factor into any formula since he’s mostly a negative there outside of hustle rebounds (his energy on offense and ball movement would suck to lose though) We funnel players to our bigs as it is so if the point of attack defenders are Klay, Grimes and Exum having PJ Lively and Gaff as the last line makes it become much less of an issue. That’s a way above average defense with a much improved offense.

I think KCP is a better fit because he gives you some offense along with better defense. That said, Thompson is the homerun swing because if he gives you 17 PPG like he had last year or maybe even scores a bit more if the Mavericks have him sometimes trying to score in the mid range where he’s going to be a lot more effective. If that happens the Maverick level of defense is perfectly fine for the offense they’re going to have. They can be anyone with that lineup and if Thompson is having a terrible shooting night you can bring in Grimes or to give you a few shots and play some hard-nosed defense.

Klay is on the decline and he's not getting any younger. Not to mention that he comes very expensive and if he gets injured, we have wasted what is left of his dwindling prime that was left. I would take Paul George instead. PG13 is definitely a monster on both ends of the floor. Something that Klay is lacking as of late.

The Mavericks should sign Goga Bitadze. But where does he fit? You already have Gafford & Lively. Unless you want to trade one of them probably Gafford then you can sign him. The Mavericks should look to sign Vit Krejci who is a 6-8 point guard that can fit the guard lineup Kidd likes to deploy on defense he can probably guard 1 through 3. The Mavericks should look to sign Svi Myhailiuk a 6-7 wing player who can defend & can shoot 3's at 40% or better. Just ask his teammate PJ Washington 2 years when they both destroyed the Mavericks in back to back games in the regular season. He even guarded Luka a lot of time.

The Mavericks should look to sign Ryan Arcidiacono a smaller guard but a lot younger but has the defensive tenacity of Barea and Beverly. He his 3 point shooting is better than Beverly. The Mavericks should look to sign Simone Fonteccio for his 3 point shooting. They should look to sign Caleb Martin a 3 & D wing player if they miss out on DJJ.

P Pass on Klay he another player we’d have to hide on defense and he was crying about coming off the bench in Golden State I doubt he a 6 man in Dallas. I’m still pissed we played Maxi over the Morris twin in the finals. Morris twin tougher more mobile and had more team morale from the looks of it. #MFFL

When will this team learn. We don’t need him we need so many other guys. We could have tried to sign Drummond for 2 years 10 million ( 5 per year) that’s a huge upgrade for us off the bench. Nico obviously doesn't like him. Think about they drafted Lively, passed on Hartenstein to trade for Washington and Gafford. Realistically where would Hartenstein play? You would need to move players & salary. Hartenstein would not take the veteran minimum to sign here. He could do that with the Knicks. I will say this get albut bunch of jerks with their stupid comments will say something about this. He is & always should have been a starter. His athleticism he can shoot 3's probably better than Lively probably will be. He has a natural shooting stroke. Go look at his time with the Clippers. At this point it's a pipedream that Nico & the Mavericks sign to the money he wants.
