I agree with Darius. Tre couldn't do anything with the offense because his hands were tied, thanks to donkeys, Shanahan and Dubas. But he definitely upgraded the D. Just wish we could have gotten rid of Rielly.
The best player the Leafs have access to is Mitch Marner. He is the most useful of the core 4. He does everything better than all 3 other than score goals. Trading him is just straight stupid unless you get a top 10 player... which is impossible.
Marner is staying… leafs need to focus on finding a player to play with him and Matthews. Possibly Ross Colton🤔 would need to make some moves but would definitely be good
One thing over looked by everyone. I don't think there's a GM, in the league that would give Marner the kind of money he wants, period. No trade clause, UFA, doesn't matter, let him play the year out, and he'll find out real quick , his real worth. You can't tell me, 100 pts or not that someone will pay him 12 mill+, not gonna happen.
Leafs had marner for 8 years and doesn't bring it in the playoffs ,not made for the playoffs ,Matthew knies best leaf forward in the playoffs only 21 and makings less than 1 million
@@thobur2661 yeah leads the team in playoff points, but fans and media want him gone. Leafs will lose big time trading marner, that's why he's still here. Last playoffs again lead the team in playoff points and was a +7 with 14 points the only year they advanced. Then you have the current 3rd line 11mil center who only had 8pts. But the world wants to keep him. Thank goodness the fans and media are NOT the leafs gm. They wouldn't even make the playoffs if you all were the gm. Like.brian bike has come out and said.. if your going to move a core piece...you move nylander
Come on he’s not going any we’re the coach already said he can’t wait to coach him you can’t trade a 100 pt player and except to win a cup come on like you guys know better
@@misterduelog I here ya but it’s not the coach and players it front office management they need to let the team play a different style of hockey you don’t win a cup by dump and chase why do you think Edmonton didn’t win also by letting Bertuzzi walk after only one year was not good also the NHL should only allow 3-5 contracts this is not rocket science just paying the wrong people give me $ 150 000 a year for 3years and I will coach them to a cup
@@misterduelog "WAAHH FIRST ROUND EXIT WAAAAH" I am so tired of bitching and moaning about getting knocked out in the first round. It sucks, yes, but the Leafs are also competing in a complete murderers row of a division where every team has to fight tooth and nail just to clinch a playoff spot. By the end of the season half the stars are hurt and the other half are exhausted. Add to that we're usually relying on our scoring lines to carry us to the playoffs in the first place with little help on defense from either the defensive line or the goaltender, and you can see pretty quickly why a well-oiled machine like Boston kicks Toronto's ass a lot of the time. New management is trying to correct those issues by getting beefy defensemen and signing young goaltenders with potential to be great. I swear to God if fans like you had your way we'd cut Wayne Gretzky for having an off night by only scoring twice instead of five times.
Marner doesn’t have what it takes to win in the playoffs. Been proven. Regular season player who is scared of real hockey when it matters. Let’s pay him 12M!!!! You’re clueless if you think he is the answer. Move him while you still can.
Agreed! Wait for Tavares contract to be up and only resign him if the number starts with a 3 or 4. If not then let him walk. Use that extra money to re sign McCabe and add another play LW with Matty. Domi or Willy can slot into 2C position
I do not believe that O'reily wanted a trade for Marner....I think he had issues with guy...I noticed during playoffs that Marner was dictating plays on ice and I think he might have felt disrespected. I notice acouple times when TV was showing the interaction at least it appeared that way. I may be wrong though but I dont think so.
Since the leafs won’t sign him, Mitch will have to play the season of his life if he wants a big bag of $$$ in free agency next year. He will have to put it in overdrive & play well. If he had a down season, his value will deplete & he will get 1-2m less wherever he signs. The leafs know this & it will force Mitch to push hard to get top dollar wherever he ends up
After all this noise i cannot see Marner being a Leaf after this coming season. He can do a sign and trade anytime now, or play out the season and and pick and choose his destination as a free agent. I cannot see him staying a Leaf after they tried to move him
2025-26 will be their year when the Tavares contract comes off the books. That’s the contract that’s really the millstone. And by then the Marner situation will be settled one way or another. And yes, he’ll be with the Leafs this year. Let’s hope he has a 100 point season. But overall, the Leafs, while marginally better than last year ( esp. on the back-end), will be treading water.
Fun trade thought....pens leafs...marner to pens for crosby draft picks..prospects...marner with dubos again....leafs need to win now...crosby older sure but he be great with leafs help out huge
Leafs would be crazy to trade Marner. Must re-sign him at a reasonable cap hit. The relief from core four spend will come when Tavares either re-signs for less or goes elsewhere next year.
The stair was Nylander last year this year it is Mariner next year it will be Taveras but I think Taveras will retire to somewhere in management I think and with no trade in there contracts really it is up to them
Perhaps a trade organized before his NMC kicked in would have been a good idea. Hmm wonder who suggested that before. The narrative with Ryan O'Reilly was he felt the coach was actually outcoached in the playoffs. He also felt the team as constituted couldn't win.
If Mitch isn't traded and insists on staying, he needs to be on the 4th line. Either sink or swim there. Top 3 lines should be our future lines past next season.
Its almost like nothing has been learned from the muskoka 5 fiasco. Signing all of our Top talent to huge money with NMCis going to put this team right back in the same spot when Sundin left. Missing the playoffs for the next ten years.
I doubt the leafs get 40 wins this year. Sure he added decent D. But the paint will dry and you all will realize it was just a paint job, nithing got fixed.
You guys JT is either taking 3-4 mill or walking I wanted marner traded for a dman or goalie it’s not happening anymore we solved it whats the point in getting a forward for marner ? I don’t see it. Use the JT money and build from there honestly idc how much Mitch makes as long as the core 4 isn’t taking up over half of the cap
If you go back to 2018 when it was uncertain Kawhi Leonard would ever been the same player after a leg injury and being traded to Toronto, MLSE made a huge investment into the Raptors medical staff and he won a championship. They worked with him everyday to keep him healthy. He clearly wasn't 100% by the end but he was healthy enough to play and make an impact. He hasn't been the same after he left. There is a world where Toronto's medical staff can work with Hakanpää in his training & other means to help him manage the injury and allow him to play this season. I wouldn't expect him to play all 82 games even if he was 100% healthy anyway. - Darius
@@LeafsDigest I forgot about Kawhi! I really hope this works out for him. This was a signing I really liked alot, a poor mans Zadorov. He's forever gonna be Johnny Hockeypuck to me 😁
Skinner would never have signed with the Leafs. His parents have strong influence over him and they both hate the Leafs. Used to work with is mom, she never had anything positive to say about the Leafs.
