@dancorwin9232

So I've actually got another question for ya, curious if you have any answers. I tested out my setup on a Discord call, and the person on the other end ended up telling me that my voice was cracking a ton and sounded horrible, even though listening to myself it sounded fine. Let me try to lay out the paths: USB mic raw audio in --> VM Hardware In 1 --> VM out channel 2 L/R (Virtual Cable A) using the method you laid out here --> Reaper with the effects youve laid out --> VM Hardware in 4 --> VM Hardware Out 1 (My Headphones) and 2 (Virtual Cable B) -->Discord Input. Hopefully that Makes sense. For some reason, even though it sounded fine in my headphones, my friend on the other end of the Discord call said it sounded terrible. changing the last VM output from the Hardware Output to one of the Virtual Outputs made it sound way better for them. Any clue as to why this might be? Also happy to hear if you have any other advice!
@pantyburp
@pantyburp 3 года назад
Hmm I know I've had cracking issues using the Virtual Cables before, you might want to check to make sure the sample rate is as close as possible in the System Settings (look at the SR for each input/output, I think they need to be as close to 44100 Hz as possible). Unless I'm misunderstanding the setup, it sounds like the sound is traveling through a lot of hoops which could be causing some issues. I would try the following: USB Mic --> HW Input 1 --> Enable Patch Inserts (2:30 in video) --> Reaper Effects --> Send USB Mic to either B1 or B2 in Voicemeeter (B1 = Voicemeeter VAIO, B2 = Voicemeeter Aux VAIO) --> Set up Discord Input to use whichever of these you send your mic to Does that make sense? If you look under each HW Input, there is the option to send these out to A1, A2, A3, B1, B2. The B1 and B2 settings are the outputs that I use for my Audio. I send B2 (Voicemeeter Aux VAIO) for my Mic, and B1 (Voicemeeter VAIO) for all other sounds. You can also try doing "Restart Audio Engine" from the Menu within Voicemeeter to see if that will resolve any issues when it sounds bad.
@dancorwin9232
@dancorwin9232 3 года назад
@@pantyburp Okay yeah that makes sense! I'll be giving that a try when I get home! I'm fairly certain that my USB Mic is 48000Hz, so should I make all of them that number? I also noticed, in this video you have your Reaper Output for the Mic going back into HW1 L/R in Voicemeeter. Doesn't that mean that you're just putting the Mixed Microphone over the top of your unmixed Microphone input from Hardware Input 1 (the one you have labeled "Microphone")? Or am I missing something?
@pantyburp
@pantyburp 3 года назад
@@dancorwin9232 My Microphone is actually set to 48000hz as well, for some reason I was never able to change that so sounds like that might not be the issue. I'm not exactly sure how the Patch Inserts work, but my understanding is that the sound goes from HW Input --> Reaper --> Voicemeeter Output --> Program. I can't speak for certain though, not quite a Voicemeeter or Reaper expert yet :) just an amateur who couldn't find a Reaper/Voicemeeter tutorial so I decided to make one.
@dancorwin9232

@@pantyburp oh yeah I totally also am not either and I REALLY appreciate it! I am a total newbie to ALL of this and This has been immensely helpful, I'm starting live streaming and using voicemeeter in conjunction with Reaper has essentially allowed me to use my computer as a live voice modulator AND live music maker completely for free! As far as I can tell, from my tinkering around, the patch destination OUT from Reaper does go "over-top" any other inputs you have on that same channel input in Reaper. So if, for example, you have your raw mic in VM HW In 1, then going patch out to Reaper, if you send it out from Reaper to #1 L/R, you are in effect having both your unmixed and your mixed audio in the same channel in Voicemeeter. HOWEVER i watched this again and realized I missed your "input monitoring only" step The rest of this is just random info lol What Reaper seems to do is send the track's audio to every single channel that is listed in the "output" on your preferences IF that track is listed as having a "master" output. If you set your Output range in Reaper's Preferences to cover more than just one channel, you can then hit the track's "route" button, uncheck the master output, and then select a specific "hardware out" that you want it to be sent to. So I have it taking in Input 1, but then sending it out to Input 4 L/R. So if i'm looking at VM, i speak and see the sound in two channels, Input 1 and Input 4. But if I listen to them individually, Input 1 is the unmixed audio, and input 4 is the nice sounding audio. What the multiple outputs that lets me do is have separate channels for my voice and my music that I make on stream, while still routing it all through Reaper. Pretty cool!
@pantyburp
@pantyburp 3 года назад
@@dancorwin9232 that is awesome info! If you find any ways to improve the sound by routing to a different input, I would love to hear more about it. I'm glad everything is working out for this setup for you though, and I agree that Reaper + Voicemeeter is a great combination that can allow a lot of cool things to happen with live streaming. Thanks for all of your input and checking out the video!

Yep! The way I have mine set up is my microphone in Voicemeeter Banana is routed to B2, which is Aux VAIO Output. So when you're in one of these programs, you can just configure your Input device to be "Aux VAIO Output" and it should use your microphone from Voicemeeter Banana. It says that it requires a license but it will never actually forces you to buy it and you can use the software as long as you want. Completely up to you if you want to use it or try something else though!

Oh ok, i more question tho,i have all my audio going into Voicemeeter banana (mic, pc audio) but it wont let me select my mic (in Voicemeeter) in discord. Any tips?
@pantyburp
@pantyburp 3 года назад
You need to select whatever output your mic is being sent to. So if you have your mic going to B2, then select Voicemeeter Aux VAIO. If it's going to B1 then select Voicemeeter VAIO. I typically send my mic to B2 and everything else to B1. That make sense?

Happy to help! Do you have Voicemeeter set up and are the patch inserts set up for whichever input within Voicemeeter is using your microphone? If that all looks correct, check to make sure the Voicemeeter ASIO is set up to use those same inputs (around 3:50 in the video)

@@pantyburp so I figured out something lol I mean if I enable A1 in voicemeeter banana then I can hear myself in reaper but if I disable it then I can't lol. But thanks for help I'll look what you're saying and then disturb you again if it doesn't work lol 😂😂😂

@@tushar5981 awesome! Yea if you want to "monitor" your mic in Voicemeeter you have to enable that hardware output but I have never been able to fix the slight lag issue which drove me crazy lol so I just hope my voice sounds good when I talk and don't monitor it

Funny guy using a preset EQ when he talks about how certain microphones can sound bad. Yeah let's slap on a preset EQ to fix this microphones sound profile.

Just catching up on a few comments and not sure if this is sarcasm or not *insert Futurama Fry meme face here* - are you saying that using preset EQ to help a microphone sound better is a bad idea? I have found starting with a preset and tweaking that to fit your voice is what has worked best for me. I'm not a professional sound engineer so it was a good starting point for me. Always looking to learn so if there are tips/tricks to pass along, I'd love to hear!
