How often have you thought that the only way to clean up the audio from your mic is to buy new hardware or expensive fancy software? Well I'm here to show you how to remove static/white-noise, and other constant background noise from your recordings in real-time, without having to spend a single cent.
As a bonus, I'll show you how to add effects to and change your voice.

Although you've jumped through alot of the tutorial, I am genuinely grateful for your video, I was able to make my mike sounding 90% noise 10% speech, to 0 noise and I can talk across the room and it will pick me up . THANK YOU!

Thank you so much!! That was exactly what I was missing. Works just like I dreamed it would before knowing these apps existed! NOTE: After I finished setting everything up my voice was coming through robotic. All I had to do was shut down both Carla and Banana then relaunch them.

@@yaltschuler At least it does for me. It makes literally any trash mic sound good such as in the Razer Kraken Pro V2 headset. Great for PS4 but not for PC but thanks to these few little tools it sounds awesome again.

This helped me a lot. Had to watch the video, read a lot of comments, download some extra stuff and use A1 instead of A2 on the banana and worked. Great tutorial and a lot of help on the comments. For those having problems making Carla find the plugins: You can drag and drop the .dll files directly into the patchbay. Amazing tutorial and really helpful for reducing white noise.

I haven't had any luck getting Carla to load a file automatically, but you should be able to use the task scheduler to force Carla to load before Voicemeeter.

Worth noting that Carla does not support Plugin Bridge Support yet (for running 32bit plugins on the 64bit application). As such, anyone who grabs the 64bit version of Carla won't be able to use the Kerovee plugin.

When I open Carla and go to settings- configure carla- engine- the audio driver, three dots, and process mode are greyed out and unclickable.

i have vst2 and vst3, but don't have a normal vst, also if i just try and put the plugin location in vst2 or 3 it wont pick it up when i scan for it so i can add it in.

Hi, great tutorial! I've run into a problem though if anyone can help me? Recently, opening Carla causes my output sound to become robotic, with a massive amount of static. It had been doing this from time to time, but resetting my pc normally fixed the issue... which no longer seems to be working... I've attempted to change my microphone driver in Voice Meter, I've tried to move the sample rate on both Voice Meter and Carla up and down, and have completely removed and re-installed both Voice Meter and Carla but the sound quality wont improve. Everything sounds fine when I don't have Carla open.

These instructions should help fix that "In Voicemeeter Banana > "system settings" : my buffering input and outpout have a value of 1024 In Carla > "Settings" > "configure carla" > "Engine" > "audio driver ASIO" : click on the "..." and for the "buffer size", put the same number that you have in Voicemeeter (1024 for me)" from user @icarteret

Hello, I've followed the steps and it works amazingly well. Thank you! I had a robotic voice after adding Reafir but I simply had to restart Carla. Now, I'm not very experienced and I do not understand why I have to launch Carla by clicking on the .exe file. Is it not an application? Because this means to use my mic I have to run the .exe and then open the file with Reafir every single time. Is there anyway to not have to open the file with Reafir every time?

It sounds like you've only wired up one of your L/R channels. Assuming you're using the 1st hardware input for your mic, make sure both channels 1 and 2 are routed through reafir and back into their respective channels

Can I use this for real-time cold calling to cancel the background noise, so my prospect won't hear any noise coming from outside my house, especially in the morning? Meaning, live voice calls.

Absolutely, just make sure you get a good sampling of the different noises going on outside when you're setting up Reafir. By using a virtual audio cable or either of the virtual outputs as the output channel for your cleaned mic, you can select that same channel in any program that allows you to set which mic to use. Alternatively, you can just set that channel as the default mic for your system and everything will use it unless you tell it otherwise. It's up to you.

Wells 11 months ago If your side panel isn't already visible in Carla, go to Settings and check the "Show Side Panel" option. Next go to Settings -> Configure Carla -> Experimental -> Main -> "Enable plugin bridges" and hit "OK". Then, in your side panel, click the green "+" button and navigate to the folder that contains your KeroVee.dll file. It won't be visible; you're just choosing the folder, so hit the "Select Folder" button. In your side panel, click on "Home" and select the folder you just added from the drop-down menu. Finally, drag and drop your KeroVee.dll file into your patchbay or rack.

You can save and load different profiles in Carla, and you can set Carla to run at system start, but as far as I know, there's no background process for it.

Sounds like you skipped the voicemeter system settings step 10:46 to enable the plugins from carla to come in.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a way to do that. Best I've been able to do is set my default project folder to where I saved my project files so that when I click "open" the file explorer opens right to them.

so idk what i did. but i went to try to uninstall carla and could not so i tried to to a hard delete at her file location and opened up carla one more time and it worked. since i cant uninstall it imma just try to finish the tutorial without the crucial details the creator left out under the impression that "anyone doing this must know how to download software already".

If you aren't wiring the signal through another program like Carla, this is working as intended. Patch insert puts a "break" in the signal where another program can come in and interact with it before it goes on to your speakers, recording software, comms, etc. If you aren't processing the signal and wiring it back into Voicemeeter, don't turn on patch insert.

Step #1 is what Cactus Crus pointed out, no need to restart the computer after doing so at least once after everything is installed. If that didn't fix it then step 2 would be to follow these instructions: "In Voicemeeter Banana > "system settings" : my buffering input and outpout have a value of 1024 In Carla > "Settings" > "configure carla" > "Engine" > "audio driver ASIO" : click on the "..." and for the "buffer size", put the same number that you have in Voicemeeter (1024 for me)" from user @icarteret Remember to relaunch everything after settings are properly set if the issue persists.

Well I really appreciate you taking the time to make a video but gosh it makes my head hurt. I guess I am just not good at this stuff. I have a really simple problem. I am trying to make hdr recordings but the capture card I bought has really crappy software. I usually just use obs and use the filters and everything works great. I guess the setting I am specifically needing for my mic is gain. I did some test recordings and my voice just doesn't sound loud enough. Do I really need to dl all these things? Or before I go through all that can you suggest anything simple or a piece of software? If not when I have time I will calmly go through your video and see if I can figure it out. I tried installing voice meter banana but I couldn't get it to work (i prob configured it wrong) but I certainly tried.

Reafir and the majority of the other plugins in that pack have a gain slider you can use to boost your mic. You don't really need Carla and Voicemeeter if all you care about is recording in OBS, as you can use the plugins directly in OBS. The reason I do it this way is because it allows me to clean my mic and add effects live to be sent to any other software I want (like Discord or other voice chat programs).

Wells really appreciate ya. Just some feed back. Times are rough i get it. You misread what i wrote. It happens. My obs recordings are fine. Obs I can actually just add a gain filter. It is another software that came with hdr abilities that is the problem. Still though i am hoping you did help. Just thought I would point that out to you.

@@DirtPoorWargamer Well since I guess you thought I was using obs you suggest vst plugins but the app I am actually using doesn't support plugins. So another dead end. I am really surprised there is not a simpler solution. I put the Windows mic boost up to 30db but not enough. It's funny I can fix my issue in obs with a simple filter but fixing it outside of obs boy oh boy...

I haven't been able to get Carla to start with windows either, but you can save your project; Carla just doesn't automatically load your last one. I've wondered in the past if there's a way to use command line parameters to tell Carla to open a specific project when it launches, but I've been unable to find the command if it exists.

i have problems with inserting the Kerovee plugin i dont know where to put the dll file. i tried putting it in the VstPlugins folder but when i searched it in the plugins search inside carla it wouldnt find it, HELP ME :(

Unfortunately, this seems to be a Carla version issue. When I updated to a more recent version, Kerovee no longer showed up in my plugin list either. I would recommend trying the 32-bit version of Carla (and Reaplugs).

Hey i set everything up perfectly and it actually solved most my issues, except the fact that when im in a voice chat with anyone on discord, they can hear all audio going through my computer. For example, youtube, music, anything. Any way to fix?

It sounds like whichever virtual device Discord is using has everything routed through it. Make sure one of your Voicemeeter outputs is only receiving the signals you want, then select that virtual device in the Voice and Video Settings of Discord.

I know I'm really late. but after setting up carla. I realized my headset went into a dead mode. I cant use mic or hear anything. but when I adjust the volume of it. only obs can pick up the sound. (Edit) so that problem fixed. but the thing is that I still pick up quite a lot of static when voice meter banana Is on. I have both Carla and Banana on but I can still hear the static noise、I'm not sure if I need to click anything but I did exactly as you did

Yeah, there a is small delay but on my end it doesn't matter. :D What's bothering me is the fact that every time i shutdown my PC and turn it on, I have to open Carla and then open my setup (.carxp file) that i saved so then it works.. Listen to your mic at the same time that you use it? That's up to voicemeter banana. Make sure you send the microphone sound to A1-2-3 depending on where your headset is. If your headset is A1 and you set up the microphone first(on the left side) then just go to those settings on the left and enable A1.

I don't think I've updated Voicemeeter since I made this video, and if the Patch Insert really is missing from the latest version, I'm not sure I want to. The documentation seems to show that it's still there, it's just called "Voicemeeter Insert ASIO" now. I'll install and look at it later to verify.

i can add the plugins but it doesn't show a audio input. just the audio output when i look into the rack. how do i solve that

There are sliders at the bottom and to the right of the screen, they are black so they can be hard to see. If your desktop resolution is too small you won't see the inputs. Once you find them just move them to the top left so they are always visible when you launch and open your settings save file.

I know I'm super late to reply to you, but I want to put the solution here for others looking for it. In my case, I forgot to change the audio driver to "ASIO" and the device to "VoiceMeeter Insert Virtual AISO". Once I restart the program the inputs appeared.

the only issue I have is that somehow I can't find my kerovee plugin although I copied it to my VST_Plugin folder. Any idea where the fault may lie?

If your side panel isn't already visible in Carla, go to Settings and check the "Show Side Panel" option. Next go to Settings -> Configure Carla -> Experimental -> Main -> "Enable plugin bridges" and hit "OK". Then, in your side panel, click the green "+" button and navigate to the folder that contains your KeroVee.dll file. It won't be visible; you're just choosing the folder, so hit the "Select Folder" button. In your side panel, click on "Home" and select the folder you just added from the drop-down menu. Finally, drag and drop your KeroVee.dll file into your patchbay or rack.

Dude you got it right. The only remaining thing would be using rnnoise instead of reafir for noise reduction

It's all the same. Either set your output channel as the default mic for your system, or set skype to use it specifically.
