Great video. I’m an absolute anamorphic junkie starting with Isco’s, Cinelux, then to Sirui’s, Aivascope, Vazens then finally to Atlas Orions as I worked my way up but then circled my way back to the Aivascope 1.75x just because it was so versatile. In optimizing the look on the Aivascope I went through FD’s Zeiss Contax, Nikkor AIS, Rokkors, Leica-Rs before landing on the Voightlander APO 35 and 50 F2. These lenses were designed to compete with Leicas $5k and $9k summicrons and they are fantastic. Zero CA, incredible micro-contrast with the crazy great detail, separation and color. I was absolutely floored the first time I tried this combination. Highly recommended.
Gaff taping is actually a good idea. I do that on my cinema lenses when I use my anamorphic adapter. That way I won’t accidentally hit my focus ring on my taken lenses

Cam, discovered your channel not long ago and have to say I love the content, value, and overall look. Quality my dude. Really inspiring stuff. I just purchased the Blazar Great Joy lens set and am stoked to put them on my FX6. Kinda wishing I had seen this video first since I didn’t even know Blazar had this lens adapter. Oh well, something else to add to my kit for fun.
The aspect ratio is the most important thing to me with anamorphic. Then comes character and last the flares. When I watch a movie that turns out it's 16:9, I'm always so disappointed 😂 Is that weird or what... I love your channel. Keep up the good work 👍 I'm an anamorphic freak too...
Such nicer options now a days, a few years back I was using a ISCO Red shittyrigged to my FD’s. And at one point i was using it with a Zeiss 55 af in a sony a7iii i believe it was and was able to use af on it (within the focus range of the isco at that point). Focusing diopter options for that was a mayor pain and the main reason why I stopped messing with it, it had a good look though. Id love to see a 2x adapter like the old ISCO’s but with the modern adaptability. Cant wait for the rest of the videos!
Sicario has the most menacing soundtrack... absolute dread(so cool)... like your take on front adapters(low budget partial look). Purist will poopoo but $$$ is a thing.
Cam, can you try to get your hands on the Viltrox Epic Anamorphic line of lenses? They should be something between Suirei and Atlas lenses and absolutely amazing pairing with the KX! Thank you so much! And thank you for another amazing video!
@@cammackey Right? They are really large for 1.33x but at the same time everyone says that they look like 1.6-1.8 due to the glass elements and the inserts that are by default inside. Please check them out if you ever have the chance!
@cammackey You should get your hands on an Aivascope 1.75X with amber and magenta flares. I’ve used a LOT of adapters, including the massive >$2K Kowa/Isco “inflights,” and the Aivascope absolutely schools most other adapter glass. The coatings produce flares that saturate and morph in a correct, vintage manner, something the adapters and lenses out of China just aren’t nailing down right yet. I really think they have the wrong coatings and possibly even the wrong index of glass in their anamorphics (modern formulas they’re trying to “cheat” towards vintage.) The Aivascopes behave right in line with excellent glass from the 1980s, and really for the price, it’s insane what it can do.
I talked about the aivascope but cut it out cause it was getting too long. My only issue with it is the screw on design and the support foot is very outdated compared to these other ones.
How does the blazar adapter look when you are moving the camera a lot? I'm not sure if it's because of misalignment but I've seen some concerning footage
I think it's worth calling out that you can't put these adapters on just any focal length. Anything wider than 50mm is likely to vignette, possibly badly on FF.
Great video. I really enjoy your videos. I went for the nanomoprhs (x mount) because the from you mentionwd versatility. 1,5x works fine with 3:2 sensors and the laowa 1,33x looks like a great quality of glas. I was thinking a lot about the New sirui Saturn series but ultimtley decided againt because the 1,33x adapter works nice with a lot of fixed primes. Also laowa has can offer a set of neutral flares. The sirui adapter is blue streaks only. I would love to see a proper comparions video between Sirui saturn and the laowa nanomoph set. Also in combination with adapters. I would also be great to test close focus sharpness and ideally in combination with diopters. Cheers from Luxemburg
we shall see if I find the time to do that comparison! I will say the big different is the nanomorphs have a PL option and more focal lengths.. while the Saturns have FF coverage and are even lighter.
@@cammackey As far I could check the nanomorphs (Mirrorless mounts) are lighter then the Saturn set. Also, in your video "Laowa Nanomorphs Anamorphic Review + Cinematic Short Film" it looked like the nanomorphs can manage the open gate from the panasonic (maybe 90% coverage?).I also went with Laowa because, like you said, they also make PL mount lenses and the Proteus set. They seem to be more "Pro" oriented. Also, those Lens projector tests are underrated ! it so imported to know how you lens behaves. would be awesome if you could put all the nanomorphs with/without the Laowa 1,33x adapter and also the Saturn set through this lens projector. but I understand that this will take a long time. also I would like to say that I really liked your Laowa Nanomorphs Anamorphic Review + Cinematic Short Film video. It had great structure, the short at the beginning was a perfect showcase for you and the gear!
@@sergebenassutti2975 thank you man!! That video was a LOT of work haha. So only some of the Nanomorphs will cover full frame but the edges will still have vinegtting. You can’t see it as much in my video but if you were to shoot outside in daylight you would see it more. But yeah the PL is unbeatable. The lens protector test was awesome to do and I learned a lot myself. But I’m personally not the type who usually cares about that stuff. To me, if the way a lens looks speaks to me.. then it’s good. I’m less on the side of caring if it’s good on paper and more on the side of is it good to my vision. I think most DPs are like that. And it’s more of the sales people and marketing peeps who drool over the lens charts. People forget DPs are visual artist, not glass scientist haha
@@cammackey you absolutely right if you say that the most important part of a lens is the look and the feel. For me personally its not a problem to do proper lens tests since I have a good relationship with our local Arri Rental. That means I can test Kowas or Orions and so and will. The „problem“ is when I want lets say nanomorphs or anything from Sirui. They just can‘t provide. Thats when I turn to youtube and hope to find knowledge. And there I apperciate it when I see reviews from people , like you, that have the artistic vision in mind but also give some technical information. (I really liked that you did a small part on the anamorphic adapter at the end). In my case, I was surprised that the nanomorph 50mm is soft and a bit glowy wide open and set to close focus. It would have been nice to find this info online, ideally from somebody who shot with the lenses. But I get your point. Time is limited. There are nicer things to do then lens tests.
Hey Cameron, I recently also had the laowa 1.33 combined with Dulens 43mm, but unlike the footages you showed in the video, I been experiencing heavy vignette in all corners with this combo. Did you used any ways to resolve the vignette?
Sorry I had chopped the part out cause the video was about to be 30 min long haha. The Blazar works best with fast primes where the front glass element isn't deep in the lens.. like the Dulens are. So you get vignetting issues and wont get prime performance. Would be magical if the Nero could get deeper into he Dulen lenses
It's similar size and weight from what I remember to the Laowas. It paired up very well with the sirui lenses to convert them to 2X stretch. But outside of that.. I didnt use it much
