Hmm I dont think the manufacture designed those to withstand, a baseball strike! You could just drill small hole to accept the ends withing the hinge area , which would better hold. Personally, think the hooks are more than adequate! JMO

Way better idea than drilling a hole and having to make a repair later.

Are there any issues with the paint covering where the hanger rod arms are?

Can you just not put a nut and screw through handle hole that will fit. Use chains to keep on hanger ?
