I can go into any shop that sells cutlery and other kitchen knives and walk out the store with them in a bag without any issues. Only knives that are longer than 12cm is illegal without a license, be it a hunting license or a collectors license. Ironically big 30cm kitchen knives are not illegal.

Most states consider the sword cane as a concealed weapon. There are state laws that prohibit carrying them and some from even owning them. You can make them and most of the time own one but don't go thinking you can walk around with one.

Its part that gets covered away, so in that point all that matters is durability, so get that tig out and weld the god damn thing, add material if need be and fix the issues. Blade bended on heat treat, well normalize it, heat it up, bend it straight, repeat hardening and if that does not help bend it to opposite direction to compensate. Only illegal to carry in public, buy or sell. They can be inherited, not sure about gifting but there's a market of sorts for them still. Word of mouth and very niche, one of those things that exist outside of the internet. You can of course also make your own to display in your home as an art object, as with a multitude of other such things. Art being subjective under law, the Police will only take any action if there is intent, such as a physical, demonstrative threat. Also, they're sold in shops in the Mayfair area of London, or indeed you can still get one bespoke made in certain companies workshops. If you wanted one with your new Holland and Holland over and under there wouldn't be any difficulty with that request being filled. I'm not sure if Wilkinson and Sword still manufacture actual swords, but certainly the better mass produced canes on the historical collectors market tend to be theirs. The rules of course only really apply to the plebians.

I saw another video recently that brought up the fact that a lot of old smiths up till the 19th century would use a softer metal for the tang because it would withstand the stresses of using the blade much better than the hardened steel. Also made it easier to put the holes to hold the hilt on, in the metal. I think it was a video from scholagladiatoria, might be a good way to add a tang in instances where after drawing out the steel you don't have quite enough to make a tang.

Hey, it starts one tool at a time! You can build a forge and get secondhand tools for just a few hundred if you plan well, so if this sort of thing is something you want to try...start saving up!

Ty Grenier: Yeah, it would be a cool as a hobby, but I'm first thinking of beginning with sandcasting, because it seems to me that it's more based on experimenting.

No no no! Alec did a segment on starting beginner forging and I think all he had was a few fire bricks and a regular hammer. He said it's fine to use to make your own tools. Edit: for the life of me I cannot find the video my brain says exists.

That seems kind of long for a cane sword. It's more like a stave sword.
@johnhenkel1828

That was my thought when I saw the drawings even. It is like they made the blade the length the full cane should be. unless this is a commission piece from a pro basketball player.

He should have made the handle shaped like an actual cane
@EdwinWiles
@EdwinWiles 5 лет назад
@@JWard-sp7wt it is. It's intended more as a fashion accessory, and a handy club for beating the occasional footpad. Being a sword cane, a straight hilt is essential for ease of handling when the blade is drawn. A curved handle would be awkward, unless you figured out how to make it part of a guard.

I've had an idea: For the scabbard of the cane sword, a cool idea would've been to make alternating dove-tailed cubes of wood (in different types, or directions of grain) and link them together with resin, or glue. cut it in half, then route the inside of it.

I do have a wedding ring but for the various reasons of electricity and power tools and golf, I was always taking it off. didn't want to lose it, so my wife and I went and got an additional piercing in our ears to share a pair of diamond earrings that we never take off.

I work with some cops that worked at a major local airport police department. They got a call because somebody was trying to sneak a sword onto a plane. Turns out, it was this 90+ year old man who bought a cane 30 years ago at a flea market. He never even knew there was a sword inside of it.
