Making some great woodworking gift ideas, including a floating wine bottle holder and and also a face grain cutting board (I call it a cheese board). The video also includes the floating wine bottle holder plans. A fun woodworking project!
The work of Jacob at The Wood Plank inspired the design on the cheese board in this video. He does amazing work! Check it out at... @thewoodplank4376

Thanks for the great videos. Quick question. On the floating wine holder, the distance of the 1-1/4" hole should be 6-1/2" from the bottom of the board. Is there reason why you didn't design your jig to put the hole in that location? Instead of drilling it "upside down". I'm only asking so that the material above the hole can be any length and designed differently from one holder to another. Thanks again!

Thanks! That's a great point, it would be a better jig to flip it around, so that you can make the length of different pieces different. The reason why I did it "upside down" is that I have a really small benchtop drill press, and it wouldn't have fit the other way. If you have a larger drill press than me, then doing it the way you suggest would be better I would think. I should have mentioned that in the video, thanks for the great question!

@@jkmwoodworking That makes perfect sense. I'll have to check if it will fit with my drill press. I doubt it as I have a small bench top press as well. Thanks!

I’m brand new to woodworking and get a lot of useful info from watching your videos. Question- when you cut your 45 degree angles on the table saw- couldn’t you do that with your miter saw?
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking Год назад
Yes, could have been done with the miter saw, but just that it didn't feel that safe with a short workpiece (10"), and 3 1/2" wide. If cut with a miter, it would have to stand on edge, or could have used the compound miter option to lay the saw down to 45 deg, both are possible ways to make the cut, but both just didn't feel right because of the short workpiece. Sometimes I'm probably over cautious, but just like to be safe and always feel comfortable. The table saw felt better/safer, and with the sled, then for sure it was. Thanks so much for watching my videos, I'm happy to hear they are useful!

Great video! Question: does the 45-degree end, 1-1/2" hole, and 6-1/2" distance of the hole work for any wine bottle (within reason)? I assume here that some in/out adjustment of the bottle depending on the shape might be needed.

Yes, it will work with most wine bottles. I tried it with all that I had (about 10) some different shapes, and it worked well with all. Note that the wine bottles I tested it with were roughly the same height bottle, so perhaps a very unusual height or shape might not work. Note that the hole diameter that works best is 1 1/4". Thanks so much for watching the video and the compliment, it is greatly appreciated!

Does your drill press table not tilt to 45 degrees?
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking Год назад
It does tilt to 45, that would have been a good option also, great point! I just felt like the jig would be easier to setup and align each time I wanted to use it to make more of these in the future. Thanks for the comment, and thank you for watching the video!
