Yeah my highschool teaches small engines and they don't teach shit I learn more from working on my mini bike and go-kart. Basic maintenance, performance upgrades, carb tuning, setting valve lash, etc.
@richiesrestorations4883
@richiesrestorations4883 9 месяцев назад
@@OogaBooga-qs8ns There's really no replacement for doing what you're doing working and learning on your own stuff. If you don't know something or figure it out, somebody somewhere has already figured it out and posted it online. I learned to be an OK machinist by buying an industrial lathe and Bridgeport with some support equipment. I've done customer jobs and those machines have already paid for themselves many times over. I like to see younger people get into working with mechanical things. I did when I was younger and I've had my own business since 2000 and my repair shop since 2008. I do collision repair on semi trucks and trailers. Good luck to you and Merry Christmas.

You definitely need a back flash arrestor between the fuel and the carburetor. One misfire, hung valve etc and you have an instant fuel air bomb with fragmentation. Awesome job making the engine from scrap pieces.
@Bizzon666
@Bizzon666 3 месяца назад
The mixture between the fuel and the carburetor is very likely too rich to propagate flame, but you still have a point, you can't rely on very likely.

@mazdamaniac4643

Interesting thing to note when making pistons: they're not perfectly cylindrical. Because of heat expansion, the piston skirt is actually slightly oval, with the span across the gudgeon pin also being slightly oval in the opposite direction. When the piston heats up to operating temperature, it all evens out and becomes cylindrical. If this isn't factored in, you risk the piston skirt seizing in the bore and tearing your piston in half. This is much less of a problem with air cooled engines though, because their larger tolerances usually make this machining process redundant, so some manufacturers don't bother.

I used to jhave a small workshor cum shed, In which I could happily spend upto six hours a day in......Then I got Ostreoarthritis of the spine and was in considerable pain if I stood for more than half an hour. I reluctantly had to give up my overpowering interest in Machining for something more sedentary. Made a 40 to one dividing head and disks, turned and milled a gear hob and made loads of gears to replace the manky plastic ones which were aways breaking, turned morse tapers, counter sinks and counter bores, discarded the down feed mechanism on the miller which had around 15 thou of lift ion it and replaced it with a column mounted lead screw and fastened it to the cutting head. Then found out that raising the head took a Mister Universe, and so I added a pair of pulleys on top of the post, got a good length of brake cable with a counter weight slung underneath the work bench to balance the load. Worked a treat. Removed the post, measured the mounting holes either side of the column base and made a spacer that fitted both holes and gave a solid mounting between column and column swivel. No more loss of alignment of the column and the table bed. No more tramming in before surface milling stock.

gas vapor engines require very different design to run efficiently and produce any power because the vapor burns out before theres any leverage on the crank. offset cylinder for one would help.

I looked on in awe when I realised that it was not going to be a two stroke. So, no crankcase as such, so no oil & no precision machining, but for an engine with a very limited run time, & a very limited life expectancy, the crankcase & high precision machining were not really required. Very limited machine tools & hey presto, a transparent engine that actually runs. The carburetor was simplicity itself with mixture control, again, pure simplicity. I love building high performance V8 engines for myself, but this won me over completely.

That method doesn't run the engine on petrol vapor, the bubbles are too close and cause atomization, just like a carburetor, so to prove the "gas vapor" engine idea even works, you will need the air coming through the petrol from a distance, or in another container attached with a pipe.
