This week I made a holster for a Single action army replica with a 7 1/2 inch barrel. There are a ton of different holster patterns out there for the SAA and peacemaker clones and reproductions. Rather than draw a pattern for this one I used a pattern I bought years ago when I was learning how to make my own. I originally bought this pattern from Tandy, but I think now it is only available through the maker who designed it Will Ghormley www.willghormley-maker.com/OWC...
I am always working on building something and try to average a RU-vid video once a week. Most often leather work, but I have also posted videos on black smithing, knife making, casting, and even how I make soap. Be sure to Subscribe if you are interested in any of these topics, or just making things in general.

I like your mallet. I made mine out of a round piece of phenolic. It works really well.

Thanks for the video. ? What size thread and needle are you using?
@bransonsgeneralstore
@bransonsgeneralstore Год назад
In my machine I use 346 as the top thread and 277 in the bobbin. Needle size 26 (230) When I hand stitched the cartridge loops I just waxed some of the 346 and used a harness needle.

I don't take orders for custom work online. I have a full-time job and enough business locally to keep me busy. Sorry.

Very nice work. Mind telling us how many man hours it took?

I don't really keep track like I should. I generally work on these projects in the evenings after work. Probably about 3 or 4 hours. Add a couple of more hours if you hand stitch everything.

What kind of shear are you using to vut the leather, please?
@bransonsgeneralstore
@bransonsgeneralstore 5 месяцев назад
I use several different shears depending on what I am cutting. For a lot of light weight leather and cutting thread or paper I use an inexpensive pair I bought from Tandy. tandyleather.com/products/leather-scissors I also have a pair which I believe they call their pro shears that I mostly use for soft leathers like upholstery or garment leather. The third pair I use a lot is made by Wiss/Crescent and I bought them from a local hardware store. I use those for heavier leather or if I am a lot because they have a more comfortable grip. www.amazon.com/Wiss-Shear-Tradesman-Titanium-CW10TM/dp/B07YD6NYVL/ref=mp_s_a_1_26

Oh my goodness I have never seen that tool the closest thing I have seen is a pizza cutter. Can you tell me what the name of what it is.Maybe I could pick it up at Lee Valley. I would be truly grateful if you told me what the tool. Cutting leather has been such a pain in the ass. I'm sorry it seems like you are saying the names of the tools and I must have missed it but can you also tell me where did you get them? 🤔

It's known as a round knife. I forged this one (there's a video), but before I did that this was the one I used: amzn.to/39iw7o9

Try one without a sewing machine.

Holsters actually are not that bad to hand stitch. Takes me about half an hour extra time for an unlined holster or two hours for a lined one. There might be a hand stitched project video coming up in the next month. I have plans to make a cartridge box with box corner stitching and linen thread that my machine won't do.
