I believe this is one of your best videos and projects to date. The stopped rabbets for the top and bottom preserving the finger joints was a nice touch.
Beautiful box! I've got a piece of jatoba that I want to use for something, just not sure what yet. I've got to ask, what was the coral colored stuff you spread with that plastic spreader? I've not seen this method before? Some type of colored pore filler?
Good to see you back, this turned out beautiful and the detail with the lid, stealing that ;) Could you explain the painted the inside and the grid with a red paint then used a applicator of some sort to put on a soft lining thing? Thanks
That is flocking. Essentially the red paint looking substance is a dyed glue, and the tube canister is used to spray fuzzy particles in the same color (that way any spots that don't have perfect coverage won't be noticeable). It leaves a felt like appearance and feel, and is used mostly for the inside of bandsaw boxes, or jewelry boxes, from what I have seen.
Thanks John. The flocking isn't my favorite thing to do but the results are typically good. The glue/paint is pretty messy and so are the fibers. My best advice is to be liberal while applying both.
