Hi Patricia, I am just replying to you as I am 76, and have been making journals for over two years now. I am in the process of writing little stories for my great grandchild, and I think this is a lovely way to do things. I began after a car accident, and became very absorbed in it. You will love it once you get going.
Patricia, you are such an inspiration! I'm still very young (17) but I'm convinced it's never too late to learn new skills and have fun with your creativity! Have fun journaling!❤️
I am 90 .... I made a journal when I was 78 . It is just the planning and healthy lifestyle that keeps me going and of course Allah ( who else is a Muslim )
Right? :) I found old letters once that my grandmother & grandfather send each other while he was in a clinic for his alcohol-problem. I asked her, of course, if I could read them & she happily agreed. I read them to her & it was beatiful to see her relive everything, all those good memories of her husband who passed long ago. He was a good person & tried hard to get better for her and their children. They loved each other unconditionally & it was amazing to be able to read those things! :)
the lego you stepped on. I had a similar experience recently, I found a journal my grandmother had when she was in high school. She passed 7 years ago, I couldn’t ask her for permission but my dad eyeballed it, and it didn’t have anything personal, just reminders, events, recipes, and notes of classes, I even found some poems and signatures from her friends when she was young. It certainly made me cry, it made me realize all of the things i didn’t knew about her, all of the memories that journal held and was now in my hands, her life, her identity, something only pages can conceal now that she’s not here. It’s beautiful. And it has inspired me to start my own journal. I want to be remembered.
i love the simplicity of this. you see these “easy” journal tutorials and they use so many intricate tools and methods and it’s nice to have everything you used on-hand already
This is how I like to see books made. So many people over-think the page selection and/or make everything so matchy-matchy. I like there to be an eclectic, whimsical feel ❤😊👍 TFS! xo
I've only watched the first 2 min of this video and already know it's excellent .Thanks for speeding it up and the clear voice over. Very professional. I don't have the time to watch someone looking for their supplies, phones ringing, tv and kids in the background. Some explain what they are going to do and don't even start the project for 7-8 minutes, then there's 20 min of paper cutting. The only complicated process was the binding and you gave references. Again, very professionally done! Now I will watch again. Thank you
I know your comment was two years ago but very relevant to myself, it drives me nuts, people who take forever to show you something about the process, they show you a package, give where, when, and how they bought it, what size, what weight, what colour of knickers they wore, all a load of twaddle. This tutorial is super, just shows one what to do, at a super pace.
I just wanted to send a message and let you know how much your channel has inspired me. Thank you for sharing all your beautiful journals! You are a talent!!!
I cannot believe it's been 5 years since I did my first journal following my first RU-vid tutorial which was yours! I wish I could say you have gotten better BUT you were wonderful back then. Of course, your work and talent are amazing.
That was the easiest, quickest video on basic journal making. I really like your method of cutting diff sized papers/folding them first and then stacking them for signatures by grabbing one from each pile. Brilliant!! TFS.
I'm so happy the Shabby Art Boutique shared your channel. I have been making journals for 2 1/2 yrs and still learned 4 new things from this video. Thank you so much for making it! I will be sharing it too!
thank you for covering a lot of tutorial in an efficient amount of time. The fact that you sped up the video kept my attention. I'm really excited to get started on this. Blessings to you.
A sweet little journal anyone would would love to own or receive as a gift. Great use of economical supplies!! One of the best journal videos I've seen, & I watch a lot. I can already see myself making this, and feel I can do it because of your excellent instructions. Thank you for creating this for us!!
Hello: I'm a beginner on Junk Journaling, and after I saw this video, I followed your step by step examples! I'm so happy to have found this video, since I actually didn't know where to start doing the junk journal! Thanks for showing! tessa
I see it's been 3 years since your comment but it caught my attention because I started journaling and writing in diaries since I was 10 too. I am 63 and have piles of them. It's a great way to go down memory lane as one ages.
This is so cute! I love how customizable it is and all the little quirky pages and random pockets and stuff almost naturally inspire creativity within the journal. Definitely going to try to make my own.
I really like this tutorial and how you put pockets on the pages you have string on. That way you dont see the string. I just started learning about this journal style this week. I wish I had know this when the kids were growing up. I love crafting and making new things. I do tutorials as well. Crafting is passion.
I consider myself a pretty creative person, I do a lot of DIY's, I draw, paint, ect, and I write a LOT. I'm currently working on my second novel (just to give you guys an idea of what/how much i write. I'm not trying to brag I swear) But, despite all that, every time I've used a journal, I've hated it. I just never had any enthusiasm. About 5 months ago I started a bullet journal, and I LOVE IT. SO MUCH. Yeah, but journals in general just weren't for me. (I have a point I promise) Your vids have made me want to try to journal properly. I've got loads of notebooks and stuff around, and I think I'm going to challenge myself to start journaling in one of them. Nothing crazy, just one or two bits of drawings or writings a day. This journal is really pretty!
I have been watching several videos on how to get started making a journal and this tells me all the details I have been confused on plus I love the idea of using the box as the cover, Thank you so much. I'm exited to get started!
great tutorial how you put up with ungrateful people posting comments is beyond me considering theyre getting for FREE what others PAY to learn great stuff to see visual and the audio is good keep it up
Exactly! It takes so much effort to watch and then comment on something you don't like. Why not just move on to the next 80 million tutorials available? Just don't understand some people. 💁♀️
I made a journal using this process! It was so much simpler than I had expected it to be! For me, the only tricky part for cutting the paper to a particular even size. But I managed and the final product was so good! I'm gonna make many more!
I really appreciate this tutorial. I like this type of video where you are narrating and fast forwarding a bit. This was explained really well and has helped me a lot!
It's been years since this was posted and years for me since I've wanted to make my own journal... I really like this style and I happen to always save cardboard boxes also for little projects... I'm pretty sure I saved that same box heh I also have lots of leftover scrap paper to use too so I'm gonna try this out. Wish me well ❤️
This video I've watched over 30 times in the last two weeks and it's the one video that inspired me into taking up making my own journals! Thank you Johanna you're such an amazing soul and inspiration! 😍😍😍😍
Hi Johanna, I just wanted to say a very big thank you to you for this tutorial! I am new to Art Journaling and just joined Get Messy this month, which I where I think one of the Messians referred me to your you tube channel. I have just this very minute made my first ever Junk Journal and I am so, so happy! Now I need to commit to this journal immediately. I will give myself just this evening to think it through, as to what I want to put in it/do in it and tomorrow I must create! Thank you again, I have watched a number of your videos and I am so grateful to people like you who give so freely of your time and knowledge!
@Arasalan Baig: PVA stands for its chemical properties and the fact that it blends with the materials it’s applied to and forms a strong bond. Elmers’ and Aleene’s are both PVA glues as is Mod Podge. Use what you’ve got.
Thank you for this video. I have just begun to learn about making journals. I have the beginnings of one I have started and look forward to working on it using this video as a guide!
Wow! I’ve been practicing book binding lately and this video showed me all kinds of things I never thought to do! My mind exploded when you cut the corners of the paper so you could easily fold it- So simple, how did I never know?! Thank you for the video, you’re great!
What a fantastic way to use scraps! I've never made a journal but your video has inspired me to give it a go. Thank you for creating and sharing this video.
Just don't be afraid of making mistakes. The first step to start new hobby is to learn from every mistake you make how to not do it. If you do it very carefully, you'll see that your abilities, knowledge and confidence slowly rises during every step you make. Good luck :D If you want to see a guy who learned out of nothing through hard work how to make one of the most astonishing and beautifull notebooks on the world, go see Stopan channel. He is the best journal craftsman on RU-vid.
I think journals are important. You can write about your feelings and feel better and you can look back what you felt like many years later. If you have iPhone for these things, you just throw it away after few years..

That was the most well explained video I've seen. You did a great job showing how to make your journal so we could understand what you were doing . Thank you so much
i watch this video every six months because the journal is so gorgeous and i am determined to one day make it. i dont really have a purpose for it yet though so ill wait it out a little longer
Your way of doing art reminds me of myself. I'm not usually precise, instead I just eyeball measurements and go with the flow. And I thought I was being messy and disorganized. But seeing your amazing work, it affirms me that, yeah, we just have our own ways of going about things 🌟 I'm inspired. Thank you so much! New subscriber here 😊💜
Loved this video, Johanna, I love all of the gathering of pretty papers. I have been wanting to make one like this so I can use my pretty papers and then I want to decorate my pages as I go along each day and then journal on my layout when I am done. Just so relaxing. This was just so fun to watch! I have had some boxes waiting on me for a very long time...hahaha. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
One of the best simple videos I’ve seen on how to make a quick simple journal. Thank you so much. I’m already imagining taking out my seed beads and adding them to the exterior binding as I go along. Now I just have to buy some papers, as I don’t scrapbook and don’t have scraps. I do however, paint. Maybe I’ll add some of my old discarded paintings, or old book pages, or see what pretty magazine pages I could use. You’ve got me running to my pantry to see what box I can abscond with.
This is a great practical set of steps...we all need this kind of explanation. I've shared a video on starting to make a junk journal... more about really getting motivated to do it. Getting started is the most important step maybe?? Joie ❣️😁🌿
I have enjoyed all of your videos so much. Thank you for doing this simple tutorial...and making it so easy to understand! I'm ready to try it for myself. Much love to you🥰
Hi Johanna. I watch your journal with me videos quite often and always wanted to make one for memory keeping. I had previously made a sewing journal. Yesterday I managed to make a junk journal for memory keeping and I am very much excited about it. Just wanted to thank you for the great inspiration you are passing through your videos. Keep going and thank you once again
This video was so calming and helpful. I’ve been binging your videos and I’m so impressed. I don’t know which art journal to create first but I think I’ll start with this one!
Honestly, this is one of my favorite RU-vid videos. It really is beautiful! Every time it pops up in my suggested videos I always end back up in here :)
This is a great tutorial. I really enjoy the simplicity of your process. I always tend to make junk journaling more difficult than it needs to be. Thank you for the video and for teaching me to lighten up a bit!
Well Done!! Your Instructions were great. It was very easy to follow visually. Straight forward. I liked that you used a box that already had the folds incorporated. I also like the cutter. Fun, Creative, and Inspiring.Thank You for taking the time to make this video. Good things to you.
I literally just found your page as I finished matric and honestly your art journal videos just gave me so many ideas about how to improve every visual journal I've ever done 😅🙄🙈this is so cool though! I've been wanting a journal like thing and now I know how to make one??!! 👏🏼😁💕
cute video! unfortunately I'm not crafty, I have a ton of journals (not like I use them anyway), I'm fantastically uncreative, and I will definitely never make a journal. it was nice watching you do it though! especially when it means im not studying for an exam tomorrow :/
With this video I learned what a Junk Journal is. Thank you so much, now I have my own and I also learned to make Videos on RU-vid, only to write in English is a little bit hard for me because I am a black forests girl from Germany ☺️ I love all your wonderful videos, they are so inspiring for me 💗
