So I've been watching way too many episodes of Forged In Fire and decided I wanted to learn some blacksmith skills. There are some local classes that teach this but it is difficult to get a spot in the class so in the mean time I acquired a piece of railroad track from Craigslist and decided to set up a mini shop in the garage.
This is a video of me making a stand for the railroad track. The railroad track is about 13" long and I had already surfaced it on a milling machine.
The stand is made from 2x4 wood studs and plywood I had left over in the garage. The anvil is screwed onto the stand using metal plates which I acquired from a discard pile at work.
It is the first time I ever tried forging so please forgive my terribly novice attempts at squishing metal. I picked up a random piece of threaded rod to see if I can make it pointy.
The stand needs more weight so it isn't bouncing around. It kinda jumps a little everytime I hit it which is not very good. I may try to add extra legs to make it a tripod or simply weigh it down with rocks.
