This is my first benchtop arcade cabinet I have ever built that is based on the Raspberry Pi 2 running RetroPie. The cabinet is based on an instrument that I build at work, an imaging flowcytometer. I originally built this as a gift for a retiring coworker but it has now become a gift for the company break room.
The cabinet is coin operated and functions via an optical switch circuit that triggers a P-type transistor connected to the USB joystick encoder.
For the audio, I re-purposed an I-Pod dock clock radio from GoodWill that had an auxiliary input. I hacked the radio such that it would turn on directly into auxiliary mode by shorting the power button together. The sound is lacking some of the low level bass sound but it is clear and sounds just fine.
This was a really fun project and it should be a hit at work.
