Hey everyone. I know the audio on the first four installments of this project somehow posted loud. If I could adjust the volume post upload, or if I could replace it with a new version with lower volume I would (I do not think it is possible but if someone out here knows how please do tell). The volume is changed in the last few installments. So for now... sorry for the audio inconvenience, just turn it down a couple of notches during the music, thanks.

Sure, the volume was loud, but the music was weird and didn't go with the project. It wasn't good music. Not a hater, so chill. Just not good music choice.

Music, as with most things in life is a matter of taste. Personally, I also have my dislikes. However, we all can't get everything we encounter to fit perfectly to our own taste, it's a fact of life. You can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time. You can never please all of the people all of the time. I enjoyed this video and appreciate his acknowledgement of the audio issues, that he is willing to correct going forward. Thank you for letting us into your life to see how it's done, your willingness to learn should be an inspiration to us all.

haha! I get that. I had a friend who was learning and he would play in a bathroom across the house with a mute on the bridge and his wife said it was still too loud and made him play outside.

On the difference between a violin and a fiddle: True story. Question in a physics test: If the bow is moved twice as fast across the strings: *The sound gets higher in pitch *The sound gets louder * The sound stays the same Write in answer that got an extra point by the teacher: "The violin turns into a fiddle"

A violin has four strings and a fiddle has five. A violin gets put away very carefully in its case for safe keeping and a fiddle has a fifth string so as to hang it on the wall.

Cool idea to make an instrument from Tally Ho's offcuts, Daniel! This project is sure to attract the attention of your viewers like nothing has before. And along the way I'm sure we'll all learn something of the luthier's craft - and have a fun time.

What a lovely sentiment to engage in. Well done you….recognising the determination and commitment of another craftsman…and contributing to re-incarnation of raw materials into something just a equally beautiful as the source of origin.

I too follow Tally Ho. Several others in fact. Tally Ho is very interesting videos. The acorn to arabella is interesting also. Arabella was just launched several weeks ago. Salt and Tar is another build I watched. These are all great to watch.

What a great idea! Subbed so I can see how it comes together. It would have been really special had Leo been able to send some timber from the original boat.
@JDanielGraham

I gave him that offer but most of the original wood is not used in violins. I love using different woods and non traditional stuff but the teak and others would not have done well with the sound or the long term life of the instrument so we went with more traditional materials.

This is a perfect fit for Tally Ho. Apart from sea shantys and hornpipes for the crew's entertainment a fiddler was often employed on square riggers of the 18th and 19th centuries to time the hauling of sheets and braces and capstan winding to weigh anchor in a timely manner, especially in the British Navy warships of that era.This will be an important part of Tally Ho's sailing equipment.

Yeah I proposed that to Leo and he wanted something more traditional so I honored that request. I was ready to make is super interested with all different species.

Can someone remind me where on Tally Ho they use the maple? I can't remember when Leo talked about it.

Did you notice the decorative details Leo carved in the bulwark planks? Could those same shapes be carved into the violin somewhere?
@JDanielGraham
@JDanielGraham 9 месяцев назад
Sadly he published those after I had gotten this done. But it could be cool for a case decoration.
