I have heard steel wool is not good due to the water mixed with the oil , can cause oxidation ( rust ) in the steel , I think stainless steel would be a far better option , thanks for your build vid , wish it had access to the chamber to replace the now rusted steel wool. Good luck
Corey portelli My guess, is the filter breather is a bypass if things get clogged. The inlet on top is from pcv, getting vacuumed from the outlet by the intake.
@@jonny5ive167 if the top bung connects to the intake the vacuum pressure will suck oil back into the intake due to the long tube the bung is welded to, which defeats the purpose of the catch can?
@@chriskubond6314 1) he used steel wool instead of the steel coils (pot scrubber) for the filter media. On top of that, he used way too much. The steel wool will break apart and can get sucked back in thru the engine... but his won't because of the vacuum leak. 2) if you're going to run a vent filter on a closed loop pcv system (relying on engine vacuum) the vent filter needs a check valve so the vacuum side isn't just pulling air thru that filter. That filter should only allow air to escape in the times when the crankcase pressure exceeds what the engine vacuum can evacuate. To my knowledge the mighty mouse catch can is the only one employing a check valve in the air filter. I'm not endorsing them, I'm just saying they're the only can I've seen do it right. 3) I would have cut the intake pipe off just after it passes thru the baffle. If you take it to the bottom (as shown in this one) you can have a backflow of oil because the tube coming in will be submerged in the can, and it's not getting any help from the vacuum side because of that air filter. The materials and workmanship look great. He did build a nice looking can. I just know the design of it could be better.
