Just as a pro tip from someone who’s been working with concrete for a while, no matter how you work with concrete, even in these small quantities, you ALWAYS need to wear a 3M respirator mask w/ pink filters meant for silica dust particles, (a reg mask does not work) along with an apron and gloves. People don’t realize the micro fine dust that flies up from these concretes. Silica dust that gets in your respiratory system WILL harden and settle over time in your lungs and in short term cause micro cuts and abrasions in your esophagus and lungs. Your body cannot filter it out. Many ppl in construction have sadly lost their lives from silicosis bc they didn’t use proper PPE. Silica dust is extremely dangerous and should never be worked with indoors and you should always change your clothes, wash your hands, your face etc prior to going back to regular activities-no matter how much you’re working with. Micro fine dust gets on your skin, clothes, shoes etc that you’ll bring inside to family and pets. You can see the micro fine silica dust in sun rays (even when mixing 10oz of it like u are here) floating in the air 8 feet above ground-it’s zero gravity bc it’s so fine. Of which you’d be breathing in without a proper mask meant for filtering it. Just please, take my advice. ALWAYS wear a respirator mask meant for silica & tell your community to do the same💜 It’s seriously not a good idea to play w cement while talking and stuff without a respirator. It’s not soap. I get my 3M Half Facepiece mask from Amazon and the filters for silica particle & vapors is 3M P100 2091 or 7093 Respirator Cartridge/Filter. Be well xoxo

Thank you for this detailed information. It is so nice and helpful for a pro that works with concrete to provide this information on these little projects that everyone is now doing. I've have learned now, you'll see in my most recent videos, that I use the 3M mask, gloves and an apron to protect myself. I have heard all kinds of things about silica dust. Some say it can cause lung cancer as well. Thanks for recommending the 3M P100 2091 & 7093 Respirator Cartridge/Filter. I'll be upgrading :) Again, thank you so much for this information.

Yep ! I tried doing a concrete vessel tonight with color and it was a big fail and I also added cold water to my cement and that exactly what happened my cement cracked now I know better that blue one turned out really nice

I stumbled on your channel after I bought an online course which was not so educating on how to coasters and vessels using porlana so I came to RU-vid to se if I could get more information but to my surprise I realised I can use cement. Keep up the good work, your videos are very educating I would like to ask if white cement will also work fine?

Thank you so much!! I think I got it from colors direct a while back. But I will tell you it's a waste of money. It doesn't do much at all and its a mess. It's like using micas.

Hi Malena I just started watching your videos and learning about making concrete vessels for my candles. I have a question from a previous video and other peoples videos I have seen. This might be a silly question but remember I haven't made my first concrete vessel yet and I am still learning. When removing the mold in all the videos I have seen everyone seemed to struggle taking the mold off. My question is can you spray silcone spray or to help it come off easier or is it because it is concrete and would absorb the spray? My hands have carpal tunnel and I am just wondering how hard is it to remove.

Hi Patty, thanks for watching and hope my videos will help you out. I've never used silicone spray so I can't say if it will work or not. My advice is to cut the bottom lip off and it make the concrete come out easier. Once you get started on making them you'll find what works best for you. Another piece of advice is to make sure you protect your hands and face from the fine powder. You don't want to breath this stuff in.

@@MalenasCreations Thank you for the advice I did see one of your videos that you cut off the lip and I do have one of those mask that you’re talking about thank you for sharing that I read the comment that one gentleman made that pours concrete. I’m glad that he gave that advice and you shared on your video because you see people making the concrete molds wearing a surgical mask or no mask and I didn’t realize how bad that it can be to inhale that thank you for sharing that information

Hi Malena, I made Concrete Candle Vessels and put oil based sealer, after 7 days I put wax in, I still can smell the sealer when I light the candle, do you have the same problem?

Have you ever noticed the Earth Safe sealer is a little sticky? Earth Safe Sealer has not performed well for me.

Depends on if you want to color the entire vessel one color you would want to use pigment and if you are wanting to add swirls, then I would use acrylic.
