From a small scale model to a large scale public art sculpture...watch how steel framing, foam fill and applied concrete and recycled marble aggregate create the sculpture "Vane - A Street Art Feather."
After receiving a 2021 Illinois Arts Council grant for her Modern Athena sculpture, Jyl Bonaguro was able to convert her stone carving studio into a zero waste environment that recycles all carving rubble into casting material. This is her first attempt at a large scale sculpture using recycled marble and concrete for a public art sculpture in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL USA. The large scale feather shape of Vane references both vanity and weather vanes. Our vanity often desires to point in the right direction, but more often than not, is simply a feather twisting in the wind.
