This soap was a 2 day process to make. Day 1 to make the Moon embeds, and day 2 to finish the bar. I'm using the "heat transfer" method for melting my hard oils, and this is my 1st time to try it. I was pretty happy with how it worked.

I used the heat transfer method last week for the first time. It's amazing, saves so much time. I came to this video because I wanted to see if you felt it traced fast or not. I'm going to try a hidden feather swirl next and wondered if it would trace fast. Doesn't seem to be for you though. I guess a lot depends on additives (salt etc) and fragrances. Thanks for sharing something you haven't done before (this is me pretty well every time I soap) LOL. Your design look gorgeous. Oh and thanks for adding sodium lactate and tussah silk to the water pre mix. Most recommend adding sodium lactate to cooled lye solution which is a bit hard with heat transfer method.

I am so incredibly thankful for this video you made! Yesterday, I was planning to make lemongrass eo and coconut milk soap (I also added heavy cow cream & Greek yogurt) but happened to watch your new video first. I too have watched other soapers successfully use the heat transfer method, but, like you I feared I would regret it. I use lard in my mix and I learned once that it needs to be thoroughly liquidfied or it will cause the batter to quickly false trace. Well, you had good results so I tried it AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY! WHAT A TIME SAVER! I learn so much from watching these great videos other soaper's make. I also love buying and trying out soaps from others. It helps me to learn results of ingredients I may not have tried yet. Plus I like seeing how labels and packaging are done. Not only did I use the heat transfer method yesterday for the first time, I also used cocoa butter in my recipe. I had the easiest time ever. I spent way less time working and no stress of a fast moving batter and very little mess / dishes to clean up afterwards. I was able to unmold and cut in 12 hours thanks to adding a bit of salt water which I stupidly forgot to discount. Soaps turned out lovely anyway except I ran the block the wrong direction through my log splitter 😔. Thanks again for the motivation to try new methods! Your soap turned out beautifully! I believe you freeze your milks and then add lye. I have never done it that way. Just wanted to let you know I have had no troubles adding any type of milk and creams after emusifying lye and oils. I discount the milk and or heavy cream weight from the water. I usually have enough distilled water weight to equal lye weight. I soap at about 115°. I notice after adding milks or sugar the batter starts to heat up again just a bit but no darkening or scorching at all of milks. I guess if you are using all milk and no water then this time saving tip isn't helpful to you.
@EllenRuthSoap
@EllenRuthSoap 5 лет назад
Wow! I'm so glad you tried it and had success!😃 That's good info about the milks too, thanks!

LilleBitte BomBom: This video gave me the nerve to finally try the heat transfer method and surprisingly I did use milks without any problems. I am amazed how wonderfully this worked to melt my mix of lard, coconut oil, and cocoa butter. Approximately half of my water weight, 13 ounces, was a mixture of coconut milk, heavy cow cream, and a half cup of Greek yogurt all of which I did not add until after all the oils were emulsified. Temp was at 115°F when I added milks. I felt the batter heat back up a little, but had no discoloring, no odor nor scorching at all. I covered my slab mold but kept checking it. It got very hot and jiggly under the surface so I uncovered it for about 10 minutes. It cooled quite a bit so I covered it again and left it for 10 hours. Soap turned out beautifully with no cracking. Hopefully this will work well for you too if you decide to give it a try with milk.

L. Johnston I guess it depends on Your recipe because I have Tried it a couple of times with goatmilk and I always end up with really thick soap. I Can use coconut milk and cream without any problems. I use 70% hard butters and 30% soft oils. And I also use quite a fem additives. But Iam happy it works for U. So Great. Happy soaping ;-)

Saw your shop and girl you are making me to reconsider about soap making. You made it look so fun! I am currently doing wax melt, working on lotion bar, then candle, sugar scrub, now soap when I dread the most cuz lye is pretty imitating. I been trying to find the natural preservatives that can replace the lye.
@jkim3302
@jkim3302 3 года назад
If you do research, you’ll notice that you cannot make CP or HP soap from scratch without lye. Lye with oil creates a chemical reaction which makes soap, soap (saponification). Lye, in and of itself, is not a preservative. To make soap without lye, you can make Melt and pour soap with a pre-made soap base, or rebatch soap made from soap shavings (where the saponification has been done for you). Hope this is helpful!
