The incense trail is an ancient approach to burning incense that is enjoying a resurgence with 21st Century incense users. It's fun and easy and it makes a great change from sticks, cones, or charcoal. Learn to make your own trails using stamps, cookie cutters, or even a pencil! It's completely natural and offers some unique results.

the ash here that's being used is it the same as charcoal ash or about the same, if not then what does it come from?

"White ash" used to be made from burnt rice chaff, but many years ago most incense companies started selling a mineral product as "white ash". It doesn't sound all that good, but the mineral version is even more useful and versatile. Of course, once you burn something on that "white ash", all of the ashes from your incense or charcoal gets blended in with mineral material. Ultimately, you end up with "gray ash" that is a combination of the white mineral and the dark ash from charcoal and incense. You can use pure ash if you wish. Even fireplace ash will work if it completely burned (no bits of wood remaining) and is finely sifted.

Do you use makko as a burning base? Do you press the ash before make the trail? What a pity I don´t speak english, I only can understand some sentences and words, but it looks really interesting way of burning incense. Thanks for the video

Manuel Lastimero In this video I did not use makko. I used sandalwood. Makko is a traditional material for incense trails but I did not use it in this video. I press the ash before use. I only compact it slightly for trails like the one in this video. Trails that have greater detail need the ash packed harder than simple trails like this. I could send you the text for the episode so you could translate it more easily.
