Been trying to figure out what the results of "too much binder" looks like. Just saved my incense-making attempts lol. Thanks for making troubleshooting a lot simpler!

Thank you for this!!! I followed one of your recipes so I knew it wasn’t any issue with the recipe... I believe my cones have tiny cracks in them. I’m going to try inverting them and charcoal discs. THANK YOU!!

Thank you!!! This helped so much!! I've had incense that cracks and I think adding water will help it to stay firm.

Hi! Thank you so much for these informative videos! I've been watching your videos and they are so helpful in learning how to make my own incense. However, I've recently come across a problem which is that my incense cones tend to produce a burnt smell and the burning line (burnt black area) is quite big and charred. Is there anything I can do to solve it? I'm comparing them to incense cones from Shoyeido which don't have this problem at all and smell so lovely and perfumed so i really want to get closer to that aspect.

I was very excited to begin making incense, and made a batch in October. It dried for several weeks, and was by all accounts dry enough to burn after that drying period. But the cone will only burn for sixty seconds or so, before completely going out. My problem most resembles the first scenario. But I used makko powder (a wood) as a binder. I put them away for another month out of frustration, and they haven't burned any better. So, I appreciate your video, and will invert the cones, but I'm still at a loss.

Without seeing the recipe, I can't comment precisely on what the issue may be. But it sounds to me like you may need to increase the amount of Base that you have used.

By binder are you referring to the combustible tubokunoki, or the spices im mixing with it?

I figured out something to get my cones to burn, i make them with tabu no ki and i didnt really know that you need base herbs to help it burn so alot of mine wouldnt burn all the way, i rolled them a nice good layer of tabu no ki and they burn perfectly all the way down!!!
@akthehigh
@akthehigh 2 года назад
Thanks for this vid!!! I tried a 1:1:1 ratio of resin, tabu no ki, and herbs (flowers, and cbd) And I also added the tiniest bit of charcoal powder and guar gum. My incense cone literally bubbles / sizzles when lit. I don’t know how to fix it! Dod I not dry it long enough? Or is the bubbling from too much of some ingredient?
@IncenseDragon
@IncenseDragon 2 года назад
The bubbling is most likely from the resin. You should reduce the amount of resin by at least 50%.

@@IncenseDragon if I reduce the resin, I Will need to add more herbs? Maintaining The same amount of material Just adjusting The ingredients ratio?

Hello. I'm bought and reading your book "incense" on my Kindle. I am Japanese and incense lover. I have a question. I tried to make "Lemongrass" described on page 2462, but there is no binder in the recipe. Is this missing? If so, could you please tell me what is missing? Thank you very much.
@omincenseshow
@omincenseshow 3 года назад
Hi 😊 I have the physical book and I could see a recipe with makko, clove, water and lemongrass... If you're talking about that one then I presume there's no binder mentioned there as makko is an ingredient which can be both base and binder... Hope this helped 😊😊

would like to know whats the deal with the purple unevenly cut sticks of incense vs the nicely made pale brown consistently even sticks, its like someone just didn't care how these get made at all. I'm talking about the wood used for them here.

Can you re-use the over-bound cones? I would love to grind them up again, add some more lavender or mugwort and re-shape. Will that fix the problem? This was my very first set of cones, using tabu no lki as a binder and it wouldn’t burn past the lit point.
@Fredo_Viola

Btw, I put in 3 tablespoons of ground lavender flowers to 1 tablespoon of tabu no ki.

I've been trying to troubleshoot my powder incense... seems like if the brand is too powdery it will extinguish when burning along a path (chinese-style censor). I've watched it and noticed fissures will form that keep the spark from advancing-- is there anything I can do?

I made an incense from 66% makko powder and 33% powdered Palo santo and when i burn it it just smells like burnt rubber. It also burns very quickly so I'm guessing it just burns too hot, any ideas on how to fix the recepie?
@IncenseDragon
@IncenseDragon 2 года назад
I can't explain that. Makko and Palo Santo shouldn't ever make a burning rubber smell.

Thanks! My first batch of incense won't burn. I only had psyllium husk to use as a binder and I think I must have used too much. Also, I added honey and I've just found out that this is a humectant so that probably isn't a good ingredient for dry incense? I've just made another batch with added wood powder... fingers crossed. I've also made a batch with cocoa powder and chocolate essence. The problem is that I'm sooo impatient for them to dry so I can test them! :o) Has anyone else attempted chocolate incense??

Yes, tried coffee, vanilla powder and Chocolate powder a few years ago. Unfortunately it didn’t burn. Have just ground it down and added more wood powder so I will see how it goes. I also had benzoin in the recipe.

Sorry bad translation from google. I said the flagrance was gréât with guarana blending with others ingrédients. And raw cacao disgusting, but maybe blend tout with some herbs can be good. Haven't try it
