@@LostWax true! I wanted to ask: did the oyumaru leave any residue on the lego suit guy? I wanted to test the ozumaru on my shoe decoration (it is made from hard plastic a would make excellent base for earrings base) but I am still scared it will damage the shoe 👞. Also: did you try to cast UV resin from the oyumaru mold? I think it will burn through... Thank you so much 😊

I've used Oyumaru for mould making for a long while - I use it for recasting Transformers and Gundam parts, though it's not the best for real complicated pieces.
@citrusbutter7718

I'm trying to make my own candy crush pieces. They're pretty simple shapes so i doubt ill need to worry too much about it not being that great for details. I just need something that acts similar to Amazing mold maker, can be wrapped around itself to form a tight-fitting shell, is easily cuttable, firm yet soft when cured, and see-through. I want to see the clay piece inside it as i mold it around the piece, and that i can cut it to take my clay out once it's cured so i can get 3D molds.

Great video and review. I use this thermoplastic with Oateys Fix it Stick (hardware store epoxy putty) to make multiple versions of very expensive Warhammer models). Because of the mold line issue you found with the Lego man, the models aren't display quality, but can be filled and sanded or cleverly painted. Great way to save money when you need 3 Mega Gargants and the kit for 1 costs $160.

It's great when you need to make a mold fast. Had my friend buy me some when she studied in Japan. If you have trouble finding Oyumaru you can look for Blue Stuff from Green Stuff World - basiclly the same stuff (but Oyumaru is cheaper - at least when you live in Germany)

Seems like a good material for making a simple mold. I wonder if it would work for rubber stamping also.
@LostWax
@LostWax 3 года назад
Hmm, that's a great idea, though my first thought is that the ink might not cover evenly, the stuff seems a bit hydrophobic at first impression.....
@pobbrett3244
@pobbrett3244 3 года назад
Would you be willing to to test this as a two part mould and try some resin in it to see if the exothermic reactions deteriorate the detail of the mould, would also be interesting to see if the clear stuff works with a UV resin and whether the light is strong enough to penetrate the rubber and cure the resin.
@LostWax
@LostWax 3 года назад
I think resin could get too hot for the mold to retain it's integrity- The idea of using clear with UV resin is an interesting direction, I could see that working really well.
@jherazob
@jherazob 3 года назад
UV resin is also exothermic, probably will work once then the mold will degrade too much to use again, not really a problem as it's easy to remake of course but still

@ericsweetman9973

What would happen if you made both sides of the mold with the same color? Would they stick together more? Or is the temperature difference the thing that keeps them apart?
@LostWax
@LostWax 3 года назад
The colour doesn't make a difference, you're right about the temperature being the key to getting them apart.

It would give me nightmares drinking tea out of those mugs. For two reasons. 1- Those mugs are minging. 2- Tea is minging. (Its treason for a British person to say this, but there you go !) I use blue stuff all the time for moulding and it is amazing. I get very detailed Motu heads, weapons, etc using the blue stuff. I've even replicated arms and legs for test Motu-style figures. Also perfect copies of star wars 3.5" figure parts. I would advise using Lego and plasticine clay to get even two part moulds, there's tonnes of videos on RU-vid that show how to do this.

I think it would work really well with flat objects, so yes, I'd say it would work. I'd say it really shines for if you just need to make a couple of something, if you are going to be making a lot of casts, a silicone mold would be better.
