How To Cover Un-lanned Spends: 1. Cover them with any other category that allows you to trim back (ie eating out or time for me) for the remainder of the week. 2. Create a category for unplanned spends and only keep a small amount between 5 and 50 (this can be built up over time). In this case, it wasn't really unplanned spending, it was just a matter of not budgeting enough. What you could have done is what you did do, but then pay yourself back from Alez' envelope upon getting back home. Good job for not stressing over it though. These things happen often. I constantly struggle with un budgeted spends. They are not frivolous ones. It’s often something kid related that’s crops up. I constantly try to re assess my budget try try and limit this. But still very difficult. The danger of a buffer it’s then easy target to use so I always worry it encourages extra spends 🤦♀️
