Thank you very much for the detailed explanation you give us in these 3 videos. They have helped me a lot. It's a shame you didn't make a fourth video painting silk. Thanks a lot Sharon

This was very helpful, thank you. I've seen silk painters using these frames online but it was good seeing how to attach the silk as well.

thanks, Sharon: I am reviewing how to make a PVC stretcher... this is a great inventive idea. my Picot stretchers from France are hardwood with brass needles that poke my fingers. they are heavy and cumbersome... so happy about the cost... the Home Depot cut my PVC pipes for me.. no line waiting so the wonderful person cut all the lengths that i wanted... i was amazed at the price... thanks you for sharing your knowledge... No one here paints silk that I know so SPIN has really helped me a lot. facebook was so helpful in the Long Minnesota Winter. I did get to go to Karin Joy S. 's studio while i was back East for 6 weeks visiting people in my family... I got to paint with her for a whole day... One daughter lives in the Boston area... Ruthie from SPIN . WE all appreciate your time doing the videos.

Hi, Stephanie, I'm so glad you found this helpful. Sorry I didn't respond to anyone. I need to figure out how to make the comments come directly to my email or something, because (obviously) years can go by and I wouldn't know to check youtube! Happy Painting! Sharon

Great video! Just a random note, but it'd be very helpful if there was an equipment/supplies list in the description so folks know what they'll need to do the project. Thanks so much for posting!! :)

This is a good Video, Sharon! And yes, the PVC is most handy for giving Shows etc, without a table. Thank you! However the one thing I do not enjoy about The Magic Sizing Method is - we are taking away the flow which I find rather sad, but that is another Story! Well done.

Hi, Stefanie, Big fan of your painting! I didn't come up with any of these ideas, the credit goes to Karen Sistek, and Maureen Reilly came up with some of the easel ideas. I love both techniques! Depends on what I'm trying to create. Happy Painting! Sharon

Hi. thanks for the video. does the masking tape interfere with the dye on the seam/edge on a silk scarf? I am new to this and looking forward to making the frame as well as painting.

i bought white artist tape .. i need to re stretch my Dahlia project.with masking tape. .the white artist tape comes loose. i think we used this tape for graphic art boards before the computer, thanks again for doing the video,, it has been so helpful... I have been painting in oils for about 1 1/2 years. This project motivated me to get back to silk painting...

Hi, Matchymom, I've found that regular masking tape works best. I've had my white dahlia (same project?) mounted on a frame for 2 years!! I finally started painting on it again, but couldn't get into the white, so now it's juicy colors of magenta, apricot, scarlet! I haven't painted much in the last 2 years due to illness in my family, but hoping to get back in the studio again soon. Happy Painting! Sharon

Hi Sharon. Thank you so much for this informative video. I intend to paint silk scarves. Would this pvc frame work well for painting scarves as well. I hope the pins wont leave any marks or unpainted areas. I am absolutely new to this area so please dont mind this very basic question of mine. Thanks in advance:)

Hi, Sanya, Sorry for the late response! Yes! I often mount my scarves on pvc frames to paint them, especially if I am going to use Karen's Magic Sizing technique. If you are just going to paint a free-form design, it works well too (although you might want to check out my "How to iron silk onto Freezer paper" video too, because that's a fun and quick way to paint scarves. I really don't like how much time it takes to mount scarves on a frame. I've tried many, many different types of frames, but this one works best for me. Ok, as far as the pins; they won't typically leave marks on the silk, but you should be sure to turn your scarf (on the frame) over before you finish painting and check for white spots along the hem where the dye didn't soak through. I always make sure to put enough dye right where the pin is so that it saturates the silk. It is frustrating to have the silk painted and dried and when you take it off the frame you see there are white spots on the hem - you have to wet the entire scarf again to paint those areas to avoid a 'tide' line in your dyes (unless that works well with your design). There are other methods for touching up unsteamed silk without getting a tide line, but I won't go over that here. One tip on scarves; I really don't like the labels that come on the scarves, so I remove mine, but if you are going to do that, you need to do it very carefully. Sometimes they sew the label into the handrolled hem and if you snip the thread off that holds the label on, the hem unravels! I use very sharp embroidery scissors, trim the label as close as I can without cutting the thread, and then carefully pick the remaining pieces out of the hem. Just my preference. Happy Painting! Sharon

Hi, Sue, sorry for the late response. You've probably already found them by now! I believe I got my silk pins from the www.dharmatrading.com website, but I've also found them at the fabric store. Happy Painting! Sharon
