Want to start collecting songs with your Habit?
Good.
In this video, we'll go step by step:
- How it works
- How to set up your pedal
- Some different techniques to get you started
Recording a song inside of a pedal is a little strange, and that's exactly why it's worth doing.
Have fun, and see what you find.

I wish this came with a little timer built in. Would've just made sense.

I have one of these, along with a CB MOOD MKII . . . the possibilities, especially with both together, are literally endless. In my ever expanding managerie of esoteric pedals, these are among the very few that never seem to run out of new potential sounds and patterns, there's nothing else quite like it. These unique sound gadgets may not be for everyone, and yes they can be a bit pricey, but for anyone looking to create unique soundscapes, generative content, whatever, it's an amzing fit . . . just my opinion.

I think Chase Bliss should make a 3-minute-timer pedal (Chase Time?) that can be synced to Habit. You turn the timer on and Habit turns on as well. I see a market for this :))

People don’t want to take the time to actually sit down and really work on it. they want instant results, and these pedals are expensive for a reason. They are very in-depth. Habit is definitely a complex pedal that can be hard to use at first I didn’t like it until I actually sat down and really started trying to use it and learning its functions, Now I love it!

@@dorianford6227 yes i think most of chase bliss pedals are more or less loop focused now but you can still make great use of them in full album work. Just have to tinker. it could be really handy to have some visual indication of how a loop is going, at least multiple led colors for 1/2/3 minutes, I don't know, but the form factor ruins it. also, as it has tap tempo, it could be awesome to be able to let the device know the needed loop length by, let's say, tapping X times the left button to input a bar length (measuring in taps) and tapping Y times the right button to let it know the number of bars. of course, some «shift» button should be pressed. using the «scan» knob is like all the way up (3mins) or %some_time% using the other positions. the vid is pretty, but I can hardly imagine how the looper part of it could be usable in real musical context, not just making semi-random notes in key or recording all kind of sounds. all the other features seem good.

Hi, I would like to make some very important points that were either omitted or left ambiguous in this video (and the rulebook): 1. When latching a loop, the length of the loop is determined by the SIZE knob. To capture anything meaningful you will need to have the SIZE knob turned up (therefore you cannot capture and loop sections containing shorter delay patterns, as length of delay is determined by SIZE, unless they have been previously captured to the 3min memory and layered with COLLECT on). 2. When in normal delay mode, turning the SIZE knob is destructive to your looped material. If you turn the SIZE knob down, it will delete the tail end of your recorded loop/delay, so that when you open the SIZE knob again you will have a patch of silence in your loop. However, while in LATCH mode, you can turn the SIZE knob down (to temporarily shorten your loop), and turn it up again, and your original recorded loop will remain intact. This is very important and useful for performance purposes. Also while in latch mode if you turn the SIZE knob larger than your original latched loop, silence will be added to the end of your loop. 3. While in LATCH mode, because SIZE determines the length of your latched loop, you cannot play through the pedal with a different delay setting while playing along to the loop (for example to have a shorter delay effect on whatever you are playing while playing along). Anything you play after latching will therefore sound like a dry signal. This is because changing the SIZE knob is required to change your delay length, but will also alter the length of your latched loop (as detailed in point 2). So it is impossible. 4. While in LATCH mode, anything you subsequently play through the pedal absolutely, definitely, will NOT overdub into your latched loop. This is ambiguously stated toward the end of the video (16:43). To clarify, anything you play into the pedal while latched will not be dubbed into the latched loop, however, it WILL still be recording into the 3min memory in the background (with or without COLLECT on). If you have SCAN set to zero, you will hear nothing, but if you turn it up you will start to hear snippets of that recorded material appear, even while latched. SPREAD does not affect your loop in any way while latched, nor any incoming audio, however while turning the knob you will hear audio recorded to the background 3min memory bleed through to the foreground. I don't know why this is or if it is intentional. MODIFIERS can be applied to your latched loop for creative performance movements (such as filter sweeps), but will not be baked in to your loop while latched, even if FEED is on. If you switch modifiers off, it will restore your original latched loop. All of this is not a drawback, it is a benefit, as you can now very easily create a loop, latch it, and then play along to the loop without having your loop stack infinitely. If you want to add some flourishes to your loop, you can turn the SCAN knob up. Alternatively, if you have COLLECT on and have accumulated at least 3min of material, while you will NOT hear it circulating in the foreground while latched, you can quickly unlatch to make those sounds collected in the background audible again, which will then be fed through the delay, and thus can be latched and captured into a new loop. You can make some really awesome and unexpected loops this way to very quickly change the feel of a performance, particularly when combined with modifiers. If all you want to do is build a continuously stacking loop, don't use latch. Just use the usual method for a delay, and have REPEATS set to full, and SIZE set to the desired length of your loop. In fact, this is a great way to build a loop, and then you can LATCH it to lock it in and preserve it for the duration of your performance, while playing along to it. I plan to use this pedal in live performance and will be exploiting all of the above functionality. When used in this way it is EXTREMELY performance focussed, especially once you start dialing in modifiers. (I'm using it with a digitakt and a small eurorack setup.) My pedal settings which you can use to verify all of the above: -All dipswitches set to off, except for LATCH to on -MODIFY off -SPREAD zero -SCAN zero -Righthand switch set to OUT -REPEATS set to full -SIZE about 12 o'clock.
@bodenschatz10
@bodenschatz10 Год назад
OK, this is really really great detail. Along with this video, so much here to think about and explore. So far, I've tended to use Habit as a delay - with Manual always on, I dial in Scan very slightly and Size lowish, some very cool rhythmic patterns emerge, though the pitch alterations in the modifiers can throw them off. Latch is the next thing for me to explore. The whole 3-min buffer thing is a bit of a weird structure, it seems to me...

No offense, I own 4 CB pedals, and have pretty much had all of them at one point or another... but this isn't a song. its just a bunch of notes. When blooper came out you guys had videos of people using them practically (like into it over it). It would cool to see more of that (and build your pedals with structured songs in mind) rather than a 5 minute video of a chaotic loop. I'd love to see how your pedals are used with bands, verses, choruses and singing... that would really be inspiring.

These unique sound gadgets may not be for everyone, and yes they can be a bit pricey, but for anyone looking to create unique soundscapes, generative content, whatever, it's an amzing fit . . . just my opinion. I have both the Habit, and the MOOD MKII, sometimes using them together. At a certain point, they can resonate together, create their own content, which I record and then extract sections from. Those sections sometimes do make it into compositions . . . and of course, mystify the neighbors in the predawn hours.
