If you want to glue two 3d-Printed hemispheres together, dissolve some (ABS)-Filament in universal glue; this will create a "glue" which can almost seemlessly bind the two parts extremely strong together. Really enjoy watching your videos btw.

I've been mentally planning how I was going to build something like this for quite a few months. I'd taken a slight break, but started going over it again and I'm so glad you made this video. I had planned on using a stepper motor to spin the shell, but I don't really know how to code so that plus with what you'd said about it not being strong enough to spin the larger shell's just convinced me to use low rpm motors with adjustable resistors. Thanks!

In most cases the motor torque isnt the weak point, it`s the grip on the shell. You can improve the grip by applying a circle of hot glue to both poles to form pads where the shell is held. A variable resistor will affect torque, you`d be better off with PWM. My pasting machine is driven by an "armstrong" motor which provides speed control and bags of torque :)

That's awesome. Wish I had the time to build a machine like this. I paste my shells the same way the machines do, but by hand. Slower, but I get pretty good results anyway.

I have been in pyro for many years and have a quick and even way to paste ball shells just like the machine but an automatic machine wrap would be awesome in the shop. I prefer to build shells the traditional Maltese style canister shells for the ability to have many different inserts and to easily stack pumped comets but its hard to beat ball shells when it comes to speed to produce and for that great round break and round stars. There all great and will definitely follow the channel hopefully there's more pyro to come

Shells are being pasted with generic kraftpaper soaked in a bath of adhesive, most of the time just wheat paste, for the paper to absorb all the moisture. What happens during drying is that the paper shrinks, contracts and bonds everything together by force of its own stretch. This is why I think gummed paper tape is of inferior quality opposed to plain old kraft paper tape. Still I want such a shellpasting machine.

I would like to get detailed plans on how to make this machine I've been making my own shells and hand taping them for the last 5 years it takes forever to tape a couple hundred shells and spending $1,500 USD for a machine that gets mailed to your house by FedEx or other means is too high priced for me

In have made a dozen mills and a few star rollers over the years Exct.. I was wondering if you have ever used a sowing machine foot petal speed controle. I have found them quite useful. Now I haven't seen but this Vidio so if I'm out of line sorry, but not saying anything wrong with what you do it's just a tool I have found quite useful being from a different era than you. Bob H

Could Something akin to this be used to make a DIY Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel Making Machine? Granted of corse you’d want to do Burst Pressure and Accelerated Aging tests before using any, and look them over carefully etc, BUT IMAGINE making your own tanks for compressed natural gas, or even hydrogen! Also goofy stuff like that one person who is making a Carbon Fiber Composite Water Bottle Rocket (that uses insane pressures)!

Is there a specific reason to use two separate motors instead of connecting both spinning parts to a single one through a reductor (or whatever the mechanical contraption to make things rotate slower is called)?

The shell rotation speed is dependent on the shell diameter and tape width. It can be done by mechanical means but most folks opt for gear motors and speed control.

Couldn't you just dip the entire sphere into some liquid that hardens, maybe repeat that several times? Idk what that would be... Plaster or something? There must be a reason why that wouldn't work.

@@NicolasSalencPBP yeah maybe! idk how bad epoxy is for the environment though. Gummed paper is probably really biodegradable. Something to consider as well!

Maybe gluing two other hemispheres rotated 90° to the first ones could do the trick. And adding two additional hemisphere 90° on the other axe could make for a better solid sphere...
