TiO2 and CARBON powder with Cl2 passing worries be a bit make sure no oxygen gets in or you make something horrible in there called phosgene.

@@THYZOID I build it myself using some heating wires fireproof bricks and quartz tubes.

At an amateur level this reaction is either impossible to carry out or itll give extremely low yields. To work high pressures and temperatures are likely required. A variety of other chlorides like silicon tetrachloride, phosphorus pentachloride and even sulfur or arsenic chlorides can be aquired this way (yield might be low with some of the reactions).

Already wrote a paper on tetramethyl orthotitanate but I might try making both.

I’d really like to know why your TiCl4 kept that red color even after distilling it. Mine totally lost all red upon distillation and I guess we used titanium from the same supplier.

It is a valuable catalyst for a variety of preparations. But it is mainly known for its ability to produce massive amounts of smoke which lead to it being used to create smoke screens in wars for hiding ships.

Well technically oxygen is much ‘spicier’ but we have just evolved to deal with it.

TCCA turned out to be the best way of generating Cl2 for me. No aggressive bubbling, less toxic byproducts, cheap chemicals and a high yield.

There is no reason ,,, You can use any method for making Cl2 gas ,,, TCCA is cheap and very easy to buy where he lives,,, for me , i use calcium hypochlorite which is the "easy to buy pool chlorine." You can use MnO2 if you want.

TiCl3, I think. Would assume some incomplete chlorination of titanium either way.

Other titanium chlorides. I first thought about iron impurities but quickly dismissed that initial guess because I used nearly pure Ti.

I planned to make PCl5 for my TCPO (active ingredient in glow sticks) preparation for which I need oxalyl chloride. PBr5 would also be cool to have and it might even pose a safer alternative in comparison to PCl5. I’ll write a paper on it an we will see what to do! Thanks for the idea.

Even mentioned it in the video. I forgot it. My glassware is normally always dry when put into the drawer. This time it wasn’t.

Yeah I got it from eBay.

Pure Titanium/TiO2, or as seen in the video, smokescreens. Don't recommend the latter though.

Industrially it is an intermediate in the production of TiO2 pigment and in making ultra pure titanium metal.
