Yes. This Royals team is like peak unintentional badness. I think they had convinced themselves “hey, if our pitching pans out, who knows?” And then oh no, we are A’s level bad happened instead.
as a rays fan there's been a disturbing amount of buzz around ohtani going to the rays and i'm pretty sure knowing how weird our fanbase is that might actually spark the biggest civil war in the history of the club if that deal actually occurred. it would be such an insane groundbreaking, franchise altering event that would go against every mainline belief of our team that i don't think we'd really know what to do with ourselves. not to mention the instant overnight international attention for such a small market team, it'd be without a doubt the most insane 2 months in the history of the Rays.
Ohtani would be great, and I'm sure the Rays would like him just like any other playoff bound team would. But, I actually think it's more likely they trade for Juan Soto. His asking price is probably about the same, the Rays would have them for next year, And I actually think his personality would fit in well with the rest of the clubhouse that they have.
@starfox6493 maybe but showtime would help the rays sell tickets and help with playoffs. I don't think it's worth giving up prospects for him though or players that are doing well already in a utility fashion.
@@SunShineStateMetalShows I do agree that Big Sho would sell more tickets. But they Rays have infielders that have been less than consistent. I think if there is an opportunity to shore up the consistency of their offense, I think they would prioritize that. Plus, the Rays have a bit of a logjam of AAAA tier middle infielders and utility guys that they could easily trade away.

I also had Tommy Pham going to the Yankees this deadline. He’s a must pick up for a lot of teams this deadline and the Mets need any low level pitching prospect they can get.
That second trade probably should’ve included some throw in prospects. Two MLB guys for one prospect is wild. Let alone for the 13th prospect in the team pool.
If I'm the Marlins I'm either team I might try and add Alex Call onto that trade bc he's an 4 OAA center fielder with extreme weak platoon splits (118 wrc+ vs lefties 52 WRC+ vs Righties) to complement Chisholm (11 WRC+ vs Lefties and 126 WRC+ vs righties) in a center field platoon. Plus Call can be a defensive replacement at any 3 OF spots and a pinch runner. He also doesn't hit arbitration until 2027.
the only pushback on AVG was ppl using it as a wholesale talent measure. calling the AVG leader the Batting Champion does that, too, tbh, given how lofty a title that is for someone who might not actually be anywhere near the most impactful batter
A bit late here, but whatever. I'd have to wonder with chase metrics how much bad umpiring is taken into account. If you've got an ump expanding the zone on a Thursday getaway day, and the players know that - are they punished for chasing (or not chasing) a pitch outside of the zone that likely gets called a strike?

I didn't hear Yordan's name in the list of players by Bailey's stat. If I was saying top 3 hitters in baseball, it's Judge, Yordan, Trout maybe in that order. Acuna, Soto, Tatis, Freeman, Betts, Ohtani, frankly Corbin, Robert right now, Goldschmidt, etc all have cases. But those 3 feel like pretty clear cut top 3 for me (though Acuna is ahead of all 3 this season alone).

Here’s the thing for me. The GM for the Angels is already the dude who couldn’t get Trout and Ohtani to the playoffs. The organization has had 6 years!! The failure is complete! This is a footnote at this point.
I don't think the Angels trade Ohtani. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't, but I don't think we understand how much money his existence on the team brings the team. I'm not saying it isn't smart from a team perspective, but from a financial perspective I think it's really hard to justify letting him go, especially when ultimately that lowers the chances of resigning him (not that I'm confident they're going to do that if they keep him)
I would love McMahon on the Yankees so much. Elite defense and quality power, discipline lefty bat. Obviously, I wish Yankees were like they used to be and we had a Arenado or Manny at 3B for us. But McMahon would be about as perfect a 3B for the Yankees as you can get without going superstar.
I like how people are now trying to find a proxy for batting average because it's clear that power very clearly isn't important when you're hitting .200 and striking out.
I think comparing Shohei trade to Scherzer-Turner trade is fair. And Shohei is worth more financial, but I still think 1.5 of Trea plus Scherzer is better than 2 months of Shohei. As is, that package was a top 100 pitching prospect and the Dodger's third best catcher prospect. I really don't think Shohei's trade value is as high as people make it out to be. He is a rental. You just don't pay crazy prospects for a rental, even a team like the Orioles or Rays who would arguably be pushed to clear AL WS favorite with the move. The playoffs are just too much of a crap shoot to bet elite prospects for one run with Shohei.
