Back to the diy on my trailer sailer trimaran. Lots of fibreglass work and hard graft to get this first critical stage of the boat projects done.

U do really cool stuff. Like that u do things yourself on a budget and finishes don’t have to be perfect. Really enjoy watching!

Plastic tubes full of epoxy resin mixed with chopped strand fibreglass with slow hardener sitting in wooden shapers, the epoxy takes the exact shape of the hull, and at the same time fits perfectly into the plywood former. After it sets, drill through the set fibreglass, countersink the holes, bolt them to the formers, then cover the top surface with non-skid silicone rubber and mark on the side of the vessel the position for any tiedowns. OR--you can use keel rubber rollers--and lateral bogeyed rollers in tandem, so much EASIER to get vessel on or off.

Good idea! I also thought about the rollers but would be difficult with my hull shape and the light weight construction.

Nice job on the new supports!! Don't forget to epoxy the holes that you drill before running the bolts through -- it would be a shame to have the wood start rotting from the inside after all of that work!

Essential items to take sailing, an Alex with his engineering skills, a Gerber and a torch.

Proper job there Alex; not too much 'over doing it' on display in my opinion. I have spent a lot of time working on the mines in South Africa and I remember an old colleague saying to me once that an elephant is actually a horse that was built in a mine workshop and I never forgot it. Nothing wrong in a bit of overkill now and then, especially when it comes to mines and boats in my experience. Well done sir.

Great idea Josh! I'm big trimaran fan and will be a frequent viewer and commenter. 😊 My experience only on monohulls. But done my share of "trailer editing" as well.

I did a similar job years ago and used “flexible plywood” hard to get but would have been quicker and easier!!
@AlexGoesSailing
@AlexGoesSailing 7 месяцев назад
Yeah that stuff would work but it’s quite expensive and you’re right with the hard to find too! I got it done eventually!

I recommend you do not add carpet, since it stays wet and concentrates moisture.....blisters will appear.
@AlexGoesSailing
@AlexGoesSailing 7 месяцев назад
The bottom of the boat is copper coated so epoxy. Do you think there will still be an issue?
@carlamerritt490
@carlamerritt490 7 месяцев назад
Interesting! Maybe household carpet would rot quickly. So maybe marine bunk material only. Plastic or synthetic "carpet". Maybe add groves or holes for drainage also? But hey, this only prototype 1. Overall GREAT IDEA!
@AlexGoesSailing
@AlexGoesSailing 7 месяцев назад
@@carlamerritt490 I’m using marine bunk carpet so should be fine. As for drainage I’m not too worried as it will be quite dry most of the time with the boat covering it. Will have to see how it goes though!
