Making some Whoopie Slings for a Hammock system Using 7/64 Amsteel.
“Whoopie Slings” are an adjustable line consisting of a fixed eye splice on one end and an adjustable loop splice on the other end.
These whoopie slings are made with 7/64" Amsteel Blue in a variety of lengths and colors. The average strength rating of 7/64" Amsteel Blue is 1600 pounds. The whoopie sling derates the rope by no more than 5% so you can be certain these will give you years of service with no knots to tie.

Thanks for a superb job on showing how to make a sling. Now I think I can make a set.

MrOldclunker Thank you. Once I started playing with it I had a lot of fun. I also like making the continuous loop and soft shackle. There are videos out there on those too. I have applied this to zing-it line too which is about a third as thick but acts the same.

pompuswindbag Thank you. I got a little hooked once I started to understand all that can be done with it. I like it also because it is quiet. I have replaced things like carabiners and tie-out points with it.

Love the stuff! 7/64th has a breaking strength of 1,600lbs and 1/8th is 2,500 lbs! It's super strong stuff (stronger than steel) and it has so many uses. Thanks for sharing!

Oregon Bushcraft Thanks, I forgot the measures. I find them almost incomprehensible really. Just amazing and the ones I use are over a year old and have been used tons. As you are probably the same, the hammock lab is constantly testing and the Amsteel hasn't missed a beat.

the mi woodsman Just one of the many ways in this fun outdoor adventure. I like them because they are so light. Here is a video I did on how they are used if you are interested ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VrBLa5uBnTU.htmlm18s

Finding the correct words this time.(?) My thought was to use it as a self tensioning guideline for either a tent or tarp. Just a wild idea though. :-)
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 9 лет назад
TheAnnoyingThingOutdoors Worth trying for sure. I think it is a great idea. I will make up a set and put it on one of my tarps and give it whirl. That would be a real benefit. Sometimes when I am tarping it is already raining hard and a I just want to get the tarp up fast. I love the stuff. It is cleaner also.

Nature Calls I like the idea of no knots or extra locking device. it seems quicker too. Lightweight too, so a bunch of different length is actually a good option. I would like to see the test result. :-)

Excellent video Bruce, I have seen a few of these how to videos, yours was a good one and well worth the view. I have been thinking about using the whoopee sling in the gathered ends of the hammock but I worry that it might stress the fabric.
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 9 лет назад
Don Milligan I understand what you mean. I had to do an in-field repair on my last hammock because of the way I did the channel-gathered end design. I am making and videoing a hammock build right now and I am going to do a strap for the gathered end that I saw here somewhere. Using a modified sheep bend knot. I think it is going to be the one I go with. No stress essentially on the end and a simple quick field repair if needed. Will have the video out soon.
@DonMilligan

Nature Calls I went ahead and did it! Last night I removed the channel loop, carefully anded the whoopee sling through the channel being careful to add the ridge line. I also changed out all the line locks for a lighter version on the bug net and the stuff sacks, haven't weighed them yet but it all adds up. Bruce thanks.

39camper At least 1400lbs, avg is 1600lbs. Quite a bit. Do you want a set? They have red.

Curious, why go to all that work and not just make a bowline on the end?

Now that would be too easy
@hop333

@@naturecallsoutdoors even the modified (Estar?) bowline would not hold that well in Dyneema. Apparently the best loop in dyneema is the perfection loop.

Very nice! I've never used woopie slings before but seeing this video makes me very curious about using them. I still use the continuous loop and the soft shackles that you sent me some time ago. Would it be possible for you to make me 2 sets of whoopie slings to try them out? If so, pm me your PayPal. I really dig that Aqua color. Let me know. -Jacko

The Brummel: I can see the strength of firstly, feeding the working end through the standing end (11:50), then feeding the standing end back through the working end (12:30). I already have a whoopie sling made up on far standing end of my Amsteel, so I can't achieve the (12:30) second feed easily. All I can do is feed the working end back through the standing end, hence repeating 11:50, then finish by burying the working end in standing end (16:20). That shouldn't effect the overall strength of the Brummel? No!, I've just tried it. Feeding the working end through the standing end a second time is of no use.....
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 3 года назад
Yes the burying is mainly for looks in my opinion. Might be some secondary benefit of having no loose ends. Sounds like you got it figured out.
@mjcussen7458
@mjcussen7458 3 года назад
@@naturecallsoutdoors As it turns out, I was able to open up the Amsteel Blue wide enough to fit the established buried loop at the far end, through the brummel end similar to your (12:30). All good!! And thanks for the beaut video! Terrific.
