Hello Julian, I've constructed an intercooler spray system based on your research (fine, high pressure misting arrangement aiming into the airflow rather than directed towards intercooler) and spookily I'm looking at options to heat shield the turbo and possibly the dpf as well of my skoda tdi. Unfortunately there isn't anything 'off the peg' for my engine so I shall have to have a go myself. Thanks for all your amazing videos, they really are inspiring :)

Julian, mates on a tear here. Some guys use thick fabric turbo covers (wraps) that are flame and heat resistant.

Great explenation. Isn't it funny that factory heat shields are usual weak, too small or not existent at all?

Thanks, what's the best way to keep the heatshield 10mm off the headers?
@JulianEdgar

Small brackets tacked to the tubes.

@@JulianEdgar thanks. Instead of putting aluminium heat shielding around the headers, what do you think of using that peel and stick heat shield on the firewall to reflect the heat? Then I'd have 30 to 50mm of space to the unwrapped headers.

@@ericmccolough2482 It's usually much better to shield the source of heat rather than try to shield everything from that source.

Been looking everywhere for this material but looks like I can't find any for sale, at least in the US. Any alternative materials you might recommend? I was considering using 321SS but didn't consider that springback would be a nissue. Zircotec is a bit too expensive for my application too.

Search under "Permaseal MLSR Exhaust Heat Shield". Its description is: "This corrugated heat shield is made from a thermal silicate wool core, sandwiched by two layers of aluminised steel, making it super easy to form into shape." I don't know what temperature it is rated to but it has lived on my turbo for about four years.

@@JulianEdgar I'm having the same issue above when I look for it nothing like that type of heat shield shows up. Do you have a website link to the place where you order yours? Thanks

It's available from lots of sellers online - search under 'permaseal mlsr exhaust heat shield'. As to having to buy it from a long way away - I do it all the time with stuff from the UK and the US.

Hi I bought carbiulders heat shield for commodore manifolds. Di space the shield at about 10 to 20mm? Keep it from touching the hot exhaust manifolds? Any reply appreciated. Cheers 🙂
@JulianEdgar
@JulianEdgar Год назад
Yes best to space it away from the headers at least 10mm.

@@JulianEdgar thanks heaps for the quick reply. I wasn't sure in regards to heatsoak and a gap for ventilation? Lol cheers from Australia 🙂 1👍👍👍
