BUY ONE HERE: amzn.to/2ysQLUh Here is my review of the Makita 18V Inflator. This little tool is definitely worth the $99 price tag and feels like it will hold up over the years.
awesome testing and review man!! really love this video you created.. This type of portability is what I need for my wife. No alligator clamps needed to hook up on a 12V CCM batt. Really good thoughts you put on it, especially the lack of a longer hose, which is a plus point on a Thumper MAX (Aussie brand).
Thanks for making a video on this. I just ordered one because of it. It will be nice not having to use a bicycle pump to fill and top of my car tires anymore and my back will think me lol.
The most awesome part is that it came with a presta adapter. I love this compressor only real drawback is what you already pointed out. No way to lock the trigger.
Another option is battery adapters. I am on the Mikita platform but bought a Ryobi tire inflator and a Ryobi to Mikita battery adapter. They work fine together and I have not had any issues. However my usage is light.
I'm guessing the unknown adapter is the one to use with Presta valves that you'll find on high pressure bike tires like the ones on road bikes that usually works with a pressure around or even above a 100psi (mines are rated at 125psi). Seems like a pretty useful tool to me... Well I know I sure can use it though...
Definitely would be handy having auto trigger feature. However it is pretty neat the pressure stop. If you really want just use a zip tie or spring clamp
Resurrecting the comment section... Good video I've been pretty happy with the tool so far. I am interested in may you're using in the beginning of the end of the video. Where does one find a mat like that?
Kinda on the fence buying this one after buying my first Makita Tool ( a DPT353 Pin-Nailer ) since it's making use of the same 18V Battery which would then get some more use out of - The only guaranteed use for the Pin-Nailer, right now, would be to have a more convenient method in securing stock material to my CNC's Spoil Board but the longer I think about it the more I can see the agony of the Battery being in the Shop with the Nailer when I need it for my the Pump and my Bike or it being with my Bike when I need it in the Shop 🤣
Hiya mate. Why don't you get a bit cord like thick string and wrap it round the handle, then slide it over the trigger when you need to run it fir a while. I understand what you mean though, the air hawk has that function and its much cheaper. You get more for your money!
Just got the 18V Makita air compressor, works better than my 12V DC portable air compressor plus I don't have to drag around the wires for the DC power. So far it works on all schrader valves, had trouble using the presta valves on bike tires but not sure if it was operator error. The auto shut off doesn't always go off correctly, occasional it would stop one to two PSI over the set value, so I had to check the tire pressure after inflation with a stand alone pressure gauge. Plan to use it around the house but will also take it on RV trips that include UTV and motorcycle use.
They don't put a trigger lock on it because they don't want you to run it for more than 5 minutes. Of course they could have just put a timer on it since people like me will just use something to keep it on. I use a small velcro strap. Not really a problem and that little compressor works great. I have a bunch of old cars and trailers and something always has a low tire. I also take it with me on camping trips and help other people out with it. I'm going to get a second one to just leave in my camper.
Was at Home Depot a week ago, I saw this 18v inflator and purchased it, but I knew already about the trigger it won’t lock when it’s in use, I used it n it’s a perfect product I’d say! yeah, except this 1little issue, still easy fix though cuz I’m thinking to buy small heavy duty clamp for trigger.. problem solved 👍🏼
@@Tools-awesomeness Leave the zip tie loose and just slide it over the trigger when you want it to stay on. Need to watch the 5 mins on/5 mins off duty cycle though.
Hello sir, if you set a pressure, it remain set? If you took out the battery the pressure remain set? Or you need to set every time? I want to use it to inflate at 4 bar 30 tires daily so i do not want to set the pressure every time when i press the power button ON or after i charge the battery. Thank you, stay safe!
I need a good portable or corded compressor to use for blowing out dust out of electronic, would you recommend this or do you know of any other that could do the job?
So annoyed at Makita coming out with the 12v version I didn't think they were coming out with this and I ended up getting the ryobi instead and a battery converter. But I'm kinda glad I got the ryobi now as it has a switch so you can back away from it and leave it running but the valve is really low quality. Cmon makita do the auto lock on so I can sell the ryobi and get this.
Ya, those ideas would work clumsily, but you know what would be better: A tool that was designed with the necessary features built-in. C'mon Makita - I know you can do better.
I use velcro strips to keep my tools cables tidy. I just keep one of these permanently attached to the handle. so when I need use it I just velcro the trigger.
Got the Makita platform so I that's why I chose it but the undetachable hose is too short. This tool competes with the portable 12 volt compressors that clamp onto the car battery. They have a long spiral hose so the compressor can be over a yard away and it doesn't matter if its a large tire with the valve a the top. It says is the safety section not to stand next to an inflating tire. Well how the hell can you not with trigger switch and short hose?
Think this would work to top off travel trailer tires during travel? I like the size/weight as compared to a dedicated unit (eg, "viar"). Thx for the upload!
One of the reasons might be that you have to be aware of the time it have been into action. Max 5min until cool down is what is recommended. It will become very hot if it’s bigger objects
I like this inflator but the switch locking feature makes me hesitate to buy this thing i hope makita will improve their design on their next model it not easy to press the button for long time
Dissappointed that will not accept the 18V BL1815 Lithium Ion battery that came with my Makita LXDT04 Impact Driver and LXFD01 Drill. I bought as a set about 5 years ago.😕
Today Makita posted. for 119. get a 5.0 battery, a charger and pick one of 7 tools for free, just got this... choice between, sander, lawn clippers, blower, light, inflator, small recip saw and multi tool
The omission of a trigger lockout is almost a deal breaker for me. Pretty baffling they wouldn't have one espescially since it has the great auto-off feature. I want to be able to turn it on, walk around and clean up the shop and come back for the next tire when it is finished.
@@james4878 Yup. I ended up getting the Milwaukee M12 inflator and getting on that battery system. Kind of annoying but the M12 line has some nice tools and I ended up buying their radio and jigsaw as well since I was in the market.
It wouldn't be too hard to make something to hold the trigger in. I thought of a couple of ideas while watching the vid. Great vid, just what I'm looking for. I'm off to buy one.
I think all you have to do is click the trigger like it’s a push button and then leave it it would finish itself if you have a preset pressure established. But this guy got trigger-happy and couldn’t let it go
I found an elegant solution to the lack of trigger lock issue: Change the switch operation from normally-open to normally closed. I converted my inflator and now the trigger acts as a "Start/Reset" button instead of "Run". The conversion was pretty easy. I did need to order a new microswitch to replace the factory one as it lacks the normally-closed contact. And then to get the switch with the additional contact in the case, a small piece of plastic needed to be nibbled out of the case. Problem solved.
This is a great fix - don't suppose you have the make/model number of the factory NO switch and the NC switch you used? Was any modification needed on the switch or was it a straight swap?
so, getting this for motorcycle tires would be good? and also my wifes car tires, shes got a spark. and also does it stop when it hits the psi you need? or is that why they dont have an auto locker for it?
Don't you have a car or pickup tire to inflate? I was kinda hoping to see its actual performance on those kinds of tires...unless this inflator is made only for handtruck tires :)
I almost bought another small air compressor just for dusting electronics. Would you say there's enough pressure to use this for dusting (similar pressure as in those canned dusters)?
Reading throw comments & noticed urs Yes min u can do re blowing electronics as I also use mine for similar issues but very seldom & also I use it to blow the dust out off my hover when servicing even the small holes that’s around the filters housing on ie the portable battery Dyson hovver - even use mine too blow brake dust off when I service my vehicle brakes - doesn’t have mega pressure there a but thou - the must do is add the ball inflator adapter the long thin middle like one - onto the main tyre pressure unit as it concentrates & creates a higher out put pressure so definitely helps & have used an air duster tin & this makita gadget last way longer than a tin does especially when u get feed up getting a very cold ice hand ... if u get this comment ....
anyone heard about Makita COFFEE MAKER! 👊 I ordered one n the awesome thing in it IT IS A DUAL VOLTAGE MACHINE! 18/12volts, can’t wait to have it, I’ll walk around at any park and fix a cup of coffee ☕️
That's what I do, and it sucks. Trying to figure out why my Makita LXT battery operated circular saw has a trigger lock on it so I can cut my foot in half when setting down the saw down, but I can't get that feature on this dinky pump where it would be useful.
That lack of an auto hold feature is a huge fail. My truck tires are 80psi Im not going to stand there for 15mins holding the trigger. I could hold the trigger down with a zip tie but that would risk over inflation. Great review, though!
Hello, does it blow air without being plugged into a valve?` Asking since im wondering if I could use it to clean/dust my pc aswell, from time to time.
no tire inflator can be used as a duster, if u do so, you’ll waste time with 0 results, guaranteed, although there’s actually a cordless rechargeable duster u can buy on amazon, eBay.
No, you can't. I just purchased this and it has a yellow receiver on the bottom of the tool so it requires newer 18v batteries with Star protection like a BL1820B (2.0ah).
@@vettepwr23 i havent seen this in person but typically you can take a chisel and remove that plastic stopper on the tool which prohibits you from using the older batteries. I have done this with my 18v jigsaw....
@@jeffb321 Actually I just got a BL1815 to work. Had to remove a bit of plastic on the battery pack not the tool. It's not really worth it as the battery was dead after inflating 4 car tires from 29 to 33.5 psi.
No, in a PCP the pressure is away above what this machine is capable of doing. PCP are although varies between manufacturer for 12 ft/lbs this is up to 800psi, which is 55 bar.
@@guido9515 I imagine it would take several goes to inflate something so large and to such a high pressure. It is rated to 120psi but others have mentioned a 5 minute duty cycle. Probably about as good as it's going to get on a little 18V wireless inflator, especially if you already have the batteries.
Hi fix it now made a comment on Taurus comment plus leaving one for u - as u made me laugh a little as when ur talking about the tyre inflater u mentioned that it’s strong and we’ll build because ur 250 “ and u put ur hand pressure on it really ur arm and part off ur body weight unless u were thinking while using the item u well doing like a one handed balance hand stand on the unit in then yes well u would have been putting 250 “ on the handle - ie use the ball 🎾 adaptor the long thin one as it concentrates the pressure to clean electrics & also service my hoovers and even blow dust on my vehicle when doing a brake service as multiple uses with that thin needle like adapter on the end - ie in u will more than likely very seldom use that adapter ie balls 🏀 🎾 .... & can even push a very thin pipe on the end off it so u can go deaper in so 👍cheers but better info for u & even u can use a ball 🎾 clamp 🗜 or Velcro strap too hold the trigger down and even a tree 🌲 branch or a bit off stick wood & if need be an ice lolly stick long ways in it even a simple bit off thicker cardboard flood up will keep that trigger up - so am saying because it’s very portable if u get caught out 😂use what’s every around u so that’s being inventive & creative re ASAP problem solving & there’s probably a built in max safe usage as why the trigger can’t be kept on - so spot on makita for not adding that lock function as it created some confusion re not being able too keep the trigger locked 🔒🥴😜😂..... so add inventiveness too this invention & it’s way better than electric cable or ur foot 🦶 that takes muscles 💪 and ur lungs which also need air to work ...
I'll be looking for the lowest pressure, highest volume inflater. Some inflaters have 250psi, which is ridiculous, and slows it down. Ideally, a tire inflater would have a ~65psi rating, and very good volume. Love the Makita, BTW, and looks like a well-placed tie wrap could be used as a trigger holder. ,)
@@Bob_Adkins So I have to have 2 inflators? I bought this one and it fills tires plenty fast. Glad I can use it with a road bike and car and dont have to buy two.
@@LouieCastro3 It will work on large tractor and truck tires, but you have time to drink 2 cups of coffee while it fills them. look up "Project Farm" for a comparison of this type of inflaters.
@@james4878 seriously!!! Not too tight and it can be moved on and off the switch multiple times. If you think what you have to say is stupid it's probably best to keep your mouth shut.... Or open it and remove all doubt 🧐
It’s just not powerful enough. Tool has a purpose.. to inflate tires and small items. It does it well but it definitely needs a mechanism to keep the unit running without holding the trigger.
@@Archifx Great video. I'm curious though, and wonder if you might be able to answer my questions... I like to go off roading. My car runs 32 inch tyres which I set at about 40psi highway pressure. When I go off road I usually drop them to somewhere between 18-25psi. Would this unit be capable of re-inflating my tyres back up to 40psi when I get back to the highway? And if so, roughly how long do you think it would take to pump each tyre back up, and how much power would inflating all four tyres back up consume?
