Before you do this I found out Makita has not made a 2040 in years and will not have parts for it, at lest not here in Canada. So I put the oil to it let it do its job for a week. After that I used an impact heat elbow grease and a part made by me to slowly work it back and forth. It did take time, but even if the parts could be got ,never mind 20 or30 for one the end price was more like three hundred for four. Before you kill your adjusters make a call to your local Makita store.
Are you saying the parts are available? I phoned Makita Whitby, they told me what I put on line,if they are wrong good. Please put up your nu. and I will call you in future. Thanks
The threaded adjusters are no longer available. Most of the other parts. The smaller threaded adjusters have been replaced with pins. As far as calling me, I don't stock parts. I'm primarily a repair shop, and a Makita ASC. *(service center)
I'm working on one of these, that is is pretty rough shape. I ground a wrench from a Bosch trim router to fit for the split driver for the height adjuster screw. Lots of PB blaster, quite a bit of heat with a torch, pounding with a piece of pipe, filing the slots of the spring tension screws- eventually got them all free. I think the screws had some thread locker on them- anybody know about that?
interesting ! But I have a question for you. I know, its been 5 years... Here is my question : How far are you screwing the metal holder when you puted back on ? ( the big part you removed ) Im trying to put it back but... i dont know
Hi, How do you unscrew the coarse adjuster? I almost ruin the thing still no luck in removing it... Another question: is the fine adjuster supposed to be inside the coarse adjuster? so they come off together? Thanks
Hi. The coarse adjuster can get galled or frozen in place. Best thing is determination. The fine adjuster does sit inside the coarse. Watch and pause the video and study the parts to see how they fit together.
I was able to re use all the existing parts. I had to rework the threads, but they are ok.Makita still makes parts for this planer, but not all the parts for the original (type 1).
They are not fine and course adjusters... They are roller height and roller pressure adjusters. The big one is height -- the small one is pressure. Makita says to adjust the roller height to 2mm lower than the blade -- and to adjust the roller pressure based on material... heavy pieces need more pressure but give more snipe.
