It's interesting to see and read the comments on this saw. When I started building my house and contracting, I bought one of these. It still runs and cuts. I have had trouble replacing the bronze washer/clutch that holds the blade tight. Thanks for posting.
Are hitachi chop/sliding saws any good? I've got my eye on a 2nd hand sliding saw. Can anyone advise me of things to look for/or avoid in these machines?
Sensormatic tag. I used to work for the company as a trainer. The two metallic positive and negative magnetic strips inside the white tag vibrate together if not demagnetized at the register which causes the pedestals at the door to alarm.
I’m having trouble finding any information on how to square up the blade to the table, and the fence to the blade. I’ve loosened the 2 and then 4 screws and when I did so the blade and motor housing would not move how I would expect it to move, therefore I doubt that even if I can get it to square up, it would stay. Any advice or information on this process would be very appreciated. I’ve been unable to get myself into the shop and get any work done. I’m dying to tune this thing up and get back to work. Thank you much.
Just did my Bosch 4405 which has this bearing discontinued. Gave it a much needed cleaning. Important that all ball bearings move the the total length of the oval like a train on an oval track it must be able to do a complete round trip. I had a few that wouldn’t budge but after pushing them through with a small flat head screwdriver and spraying cleaner I got them all free.
That motor on the table saw looks like the motor on a miter saw. Wondering if it would fit on my dw744 saw.what is the model saw that your showing on this video?Oh, very good advice on maintaining equipment.
Definitely my favorite saw, bought one new 1985. The top handle offers some carpentry benefits that other “builder’s” saws do not. Not as great as a framer’s saw, or general construction saw, but if you had a sawboss and this you didn’t need any other handheld circular saw to be a topnotch finish guy.
Thanks for the excellent advice. I have an Elektra-bekum chop saw that's 30 years old now and going strong. It's never had any attention to the bearings. It is sliding a little rough now so I think I shall strip it some time and see if the bearings of the type you show here and clean em up like you suggest.
That is a shielded bearing if it is just metal. You need to replace the bearing. If you take the shield off, you need to do that in a really clean environment and you probably cannot replace the shield like it should be. Lots of experience with bearings.
I'm working on one of these, that is is pretty rough shape. I ground a wrench from a Bosch trim router to fit for the split driver for the height adjuster screw. Lots of PB blaster, quite a bit of heat with a torch, pounding with a piece of pipe, filing the slots of the spring tension screws- eventually got them all free. I think the screws had some thread locker on them- anybody know about that?
Thank you again for teaching me term “linear bearings”. 🤓short, to the point, steady video. Cannot ask for more. I will keep a lookout for your videos !
Makita older USA made model has a dual linear bearing, and my bearings look just like that one you have there. Manual recommend to lube with machine oil... thoughts?
interesting ! But I have a question for you. I know, its been 5 years... Here is my question : How far are you screwing the metal holder when you puted back on ? ( the big part you removed ) Im trying to put it back but... i dont know
Great video Jason, short and easy to follow, thanks. I have a Bosch with the same type of rail system but I bet the same process works on it too. Rockin
Hi Good video I have one that I would like to sell if you know anyone let me know ,I just took it out of storage it runs it's a work horse, asking $25 plus shipping I am in NYC
Hi great video. I made the mistake of removing the bearing and like you said balls every where. you inspired me to get mine working again ,. my question to you or to anyone who owns this saw is how many ball bearings are in the race as im not sure i gathered them all as it was so long ago. Is the race half full ? Three quaters full completely full. Hope this makes sense.Thanks.
Any advice for how to get that end cap off of the sliding arms? Your video starts with it already removed, but I'm having a helluva time trying to remove mine. Removed the allen head screws, but it's almost like the end cap itself is glued on or something...
I just went through the same maintenance. This might be too late for you, but to get the end cap off you need to pound out the roll pins that hold the cap to the slides. I then used a small piece of wood and tapped it against the end cap with a hammer till it came off. I haven't put the pins back in yet, so we'll see how that goes, lol.
You can also buy these linear bearings, at least you can for the Milwaukee 7.5" off amazon. But no idea how difficult it is to remove and install, not something I have plucked up enough courage to attempt yet.
