3 Grinders that all claim to run at the same speed. But do they? They certainly don't sound like it. You asked for it, so here it is. A Makita 18v, a Makita 36v, (18v x2), a Makita 40v Max and a dodgy 18v knock-off

Makita tools typically suck at numbers anyways, since they are built for longevity rather than winning spreadsheet competitions. But they typically are great tools at great prices and they last forever. So as long as it's a good grinder, I say it's a good grinder.

@@GlennC789 I am not sure they HAVE to. It's more a decision you make and you just gotta see if it works. Makita is a brand for professionals, always has been. And those guys don't pick their tools based on RU-vid reviews. I have no idea how the sales numbers are at Makita HQ, but they seem to be doing mighty fine to me. As so often, the Japanese are in for the long haul. Over here, you will see 4 out of 5 craftsmen using Makita. And we don't exactly have any shortage of amazing local tool manufacturers in Germany. Makitas stuff is good (maybe not always best, but always at least decent), it's reliable, it will last you a long time, it won't cost you an arm an a leg (so it's not such a tragedy if something breaks or gets stolen) and you will find pretty much ANYTHING in their lineup. I think that's what speaks to the professionals and to larger companies in particular.

@@GlennC789 But you are correct, those videos can be addictive, albeit most of the time flawed by design and ultimately utterly pointless :D

WoW , the low rpm's is very surprising coming from Makita , the Sad part Is , it's not just their grinders , I watched a video about 2 days ago and they tested the rpm's on the Makita XDT16 impact driver which is rated at 3,600 and it only produced a little over 3,300 , I was really surprised. They also test the DeWalt dcf887 and a few others , the dcf887 is rated a 3,250 rpm's and it actually did a little over 3,300 which was also really surprising, but in a good way ,lol... Keep up the Good Work , you have a Great Channel....👍🛠🖖

Honestly thank you for these types of tests, manufacturers shouldn't be able to get away with this. In saying that though, I just bought the DGA511 grinder and it definitely sounds like it has a higher rpm than my old ones but it would be nice to see if they have actually upped their rpm
@CamperKev
@CamperKev 3 года назад
Maybe the speeds are down, because they were manufactured and specified in the northern hemisphere and you are testing in the southern hemisphere. Water and cyclones spin counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere and those discs are spinning clockwise. So maybe they are fighting against mother nature and it's slowing them down ? Once covid is over, you better take a business trip to somewhere like Phuket Thailand and test them again. Sure, I'm talking a lot of crap, but it might buy you a tax deductible holiday with plenty of new beers to try and perhaps a few more wife free nights.

I have the US version of the 18v.... It does what I need it to do... I never looked at the RPMs before and still don't care. Now torque is a different thing... I expect the Makita to keep going under hard pressure. The banggood version, not so much.

Can you test other brands’ grinders as well? If you can swing the money for it I guess? It would be great to know if there is any one that is truely superior to the others...(I do heaps of grinding in my commercial job).

i believe the real makita 18v ramps up when under load. there is a very audible speed change with mine when it loads up
@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL 3 года назад
The 18v and 40v Makitas in this video ramp up under heavy load, but will never get higher than these no load speeds. When you start cutting with that 18v there is a noticeable drop in RPM so by the time it ramps up, it has probably already dropped to 5000RPMish so I doubt the "ramp up" will even get it back to the 6,700RPM it is showing under no load. I feel more tests coming up...
@UnacceptableViews
@UnacceptableViews 3 года назад
@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL this is true.. would be very difficult to measure the load speed accurately. at the end of the day the rated speeds are just typical marketing wank to get prospective buyers all giddy about buying the product

Does it pick up rpm when it feels resistance
@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL
@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL 3 года назад
Yes the genuine 18v and 40v do. But they are never going to run faster under load compared to no load. The 18v drops significantly when you start using it, so even after it ramps up I doubt it could overcome the no load speed of 6,700 let alone the rated 8,500. Another video coming up I feel...

shouldn't you be taking the reading from as close to the outside edge of the disc as possible?
@rich3633
@rich3633 3 года назад
Rpm is the same regardless. Only surface speed (m/s) etc. Would be affected by where on the disc you measure.

RPM numbers don't really matter that much. But, what it really matters is the amount of work you can get out of a battery
