Wonderful exhibition from MAKS 2017 by a couple of Yakovlev YAK-130 (Яковлев, Як-130) modern russian advanced jet trainers, displaying extreme maneuvers, smoke trails... this was the flight from 19th july 2017, sit back and enjoy the show! :D
Both pilots (Vasily Sevastianov and Roman Taskaev - Василий Севастьянов, Роман Таскаев) are official test pilots from the Yakovlev Design Bureau with immense experience, something that reflects in the precision of execution of the maneuvers in the flight demonstration.
The Yakovlev Yak-130 (NATO reporting name: Mitten) is a subsonic bi-seater advanced jet trainer originally developed by the russian company Yakovlev and italian firm Aermacchi. It has also been marketed as a potential light attack aircraft. Development of the plane began in 1991 and the maiden flight was conducted on 25 April 1996. In 2002, it won a Russian government tender for training aircraft and in 2009 the aircraft entered service with the Russian Air Force. As an advanced training aircraft, the Yak-130 is able to replicate the characteristics of several 4+ generation fighters as well as the fifth-generation Sukhoi Su-57, making the airplane an actual FLYING simulator, which is kind of amazing, if you ask me. It can also perform light-attack and reconnaissance duties, carrying a combat load of up to 3,000 kg, including various guided and un-guided weapons, auxiliary fuel tanks and electronic pods. Yak-130 has nine hard points: two wingtip, six under-wing and one under-fuselage.
Just as mentioned, the Yak-130 is able to replicate characteristics of Russian 4th and 5th generation fighters. This is possible through the use of open architecture digital avionics compliant with a 1553 Databus, a full digital glass cockpit, four-channel digital Fly-By-Wire System (FBWS) and Instructor controlled and variable FBWS handling characteristics and embedded simulation. The type also has a Head-up display (HUD) and a Helmet-Mounted-Sighting-System (HMSS), with a double GPS/GLONASS receiver updating an Inertial Reference System (IRS) for highly accurate navigation and precision targeting. The developer estimates that the plane can cover up to 80% of the entire pilot flight training program.
The aircraft's twin engines are mounted under extended wing roots, which reach as far forward as the windscreen. Two Ivchenko Progress AI-222-25 with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) produce a combined total of 49 kilonewtons of thrust. An upgraded, "-28" engine is also on offer, increasing the thrust up to 53 kN. At a normal Take-Off Weight of 7,250 kg, a Thrust-to-Weight ratio of 0.70 is achieved with the "-25", or 0.77 with the "-28" engines. This compares with 0.65 for the BAE Systems Hawk 128 and 0.49 for the Aero Vodochody L-159B.
Maximum internal fuel capacity is 1,700 kg. With two external combat fuel tanks the figure increases to 2,600 kg. Maximum true airspeed is Mach 0.93, service ceiling is 12,500 metres and load factors are from −3 to +9G. Typical Take-Off speed and distance in a "clean" configuration are 209 km/h and 550 m, whilst landing figures are 191 km/h and 750 m respectively. Cross wind limit is 56 km/h.
The Yakovlev Yak-130 is also equipped with the FBWS controlled engine intake blanking doors, in order to prevent the aircraft's engines from sustaining FOD when operating from unpaved runways and grass strips.

Impressive, nimble, little jet. Not surprising when you consider Yakovlevs history with excellent planes like the Yak-9 and 3. I definitely have to make it a life's goal to attend a MAK airshow someday. Thanks for another great video.

Yeah, if I ever manage to go I will let you know. And the Yak-9 and I know this might sound strange the Polokrapov I-16 are my favorite WW2 Russian planes. I don't know what it is but there is something endearing to me about the I-16. I think its the fact that during the early days of the invasion of the Soviet Union Russian pilots did a heroic job holding their own defending their country in the I-16s while going up against the superior ME-109s, they were definitely brave men with balls of steel. But when it comes to the old Warbirds I have to go with my country. I love the P-38 Lighting, P-51D Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, F6F Hellcat, and my absolute favorite is the P-40 Warhawk, made famous by the Flying Tigers. It was just a great rugged, reliable well-rounded airplane that had a legendary reputation of being able to take a huge amount of battle damage and yet keep flying. And it had such a sleek, beautiful, yet aggressive look about it.

Totally right! I love the P-51. Big fan of the P-38 as well, maybe not so much as a fighter but as a plane. The scream of the Mustang engine on a flyby is something to delight about... :D Had one flying around here many years ago for 'Festa al Cel' (local airshow) and saw plenty of them also at Oshkosh Airventure 2011. I have it on DCS, should give it a try some day... used to fly it in the IL-2 simulator ;)

Yeah that Rolls Royce Merlin coupled with a supercharger definitely was a unique sound.

También se exporta a otros países, y en Italia, Alenia fabrica su propia versión occidental del mismo avión (M-346)

Thanks! I don't think that plane is capable of Cobra but it would be so cool :D
