@@pauldepter6031 nope, that was the sound file not the actual performer messing up. At 1:08 and at 2:28 he does barely flub some notes, but that’s a whole two drops of water in the entire sea which is fucking amazing
Pepe Romero es un malagueño, hijo de un genio de la guitarra Celedonio Romero y hermano de dos virtuosos Celín y Angel. Toda una familia de magnificos interpetres de la guitarra española.
I met him, his father and his brother at a concert in st louis in the late 80s, the three of them played as a trio. You talk about the most beautiful guitar sound imaginable in a concert hall with all that ambiant natural reverb....amazing. I worked as an usher so I got to meet them after their performance, and enjoy some wine and cheese. Was great night.
I was fortunate, as a young person in high school, to go to a concert by the entire Romero Family - Celedonio Romero, the father, and the three sons, Celin, Angel, and Pepe. To say they blew me away was an understatement. I have always been a fan of guitar, and that concert, even today when I'm over 70, is still a razor sharp memory and literal highlight of my entire life.
I also met the family when they gave a concert at the university that I was attending. I had a chance at the end of the concert to have a chat with Pepe, and got a few pointers from him as a beginning guitarist. And now I'm 80. Where did the time go? I still play the guitar, but not as well as when I was younger.
Wesley Hill,Your the only one that knows the True genius and Natural Born Masters of the Spanish Classic Guitar, As You say, The Romero Familia il Numero Ono e el Mondo...
It's amazing that he first recorded it in 1960 when he was only 15 year old - you can hear it on the Flamenco Fenomemo cd. He just keeps getting better and better.
BRAVO !!! BRAVO !!! ENDLESS BRAVO Dear Pepe Romero !!! I LOVE GUITAR ENDLESS !!! VERY, HEART GREETINGS FROM Sofia - Bulgaria - Europe !!! With LOVE Nadya Mirkova from Sofia
Leo Kottke, the amazing 12 string guitarist, rebuilds all his 12 and 6 string guitars. He had two stolen jyst before a concert in London. Two guitarists heard about that and lent him theirs. Romero is an amazing artist.
Malaguena is iconic and is a Flamenco rhythm as much as a composition. The famous version by Los Romeros as a quartet is also iconic, and a crowd pleasing standard. After playing this piece for so many years, it is refreshing to hear Pepe's father's composition in a variation for fans that have heard the same piece before. Spanish music is meant to contemporary to the moment. The audience on Bogota had heard the original version, and were open to a new version. Bravo!
Actually it was written by a cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona initially and was for piano with spanish lyrics. The name of the song itself 'Malagueña' is taken directly from a flamenco music and dance style of the same name. So, Cuban composer with spanish influence. Sorry no mexico bud.
Mcderple Berry Popularity and quality are not the same, and can be opposing values at the highest levels of quality. Fine art isn't made for mass consumption.
+Space Jazz lol? you literally asked 'who else agrees that...' and Mcderple replied saying the number of people that agreed with you by liking your comment. You asked a question and got an answer. stfu.
By that logic you will never do anything, since there will always be someone who dedicates an extreme amount of time to becoming a master at anything you could choose to do. Better off doing it anyway and getting some enjoyment out of it. You could even become a master yourself, but not if you don’t try.
I used to play guitar when I was a kid but I have abnormally small hands and I don’t have any fingernails since I bite them. I was just stuck at a beginner/intermediate level. I quit, and I wish I didn’t. I don’t think I could ever be a master guitarist which is fine. But I just listen to this as music now, whereas I wish I could listen to it with a little more technical knowledge.
This guy has potential. Very "crisp" (articulate). A real joy to listen to. Actually this is probably the best rendition I have ever heard of this piece.
Assim,como a platéia,cuja à qual;assistiu Malagueta!Fiquei : Hipnotizado! Tchau!
Every time time when I hear him I remember the words Leopold Mozart wrote his son in a letter „Dreiviertel Fleiß, einviertel Talent brauchts zum tüchtigen Musiker !“
Different people have different criteria for judging things. For example, maybe they liked the playing but didn’t like the poor audio quality, or thought the playing was skillful but didn’t like the song. Also, 99.98% upvotes is an extremely good ratio.
A video with 1000 views usually gets 4 dislikes by bots so this has 3 million views do the math. This comment is so boring and gets typed everywhere by idiots. Please educate yourself
Since the 70's he's been the best Classical player I've heard..whenever he plays I believe every note he plays..nothing sounds contrived or imitated and you don't need a cathedral background or visual effect to enhance his performance. (He and Segovia are the only recordings I enjoy as two very expressive and convincing players..although I'd put Bream in that category as well.Great footage.
You can Practice for A 100 years and you,l never be anywere near this Mans Perfection ,God has blessed Pepe Romaro and you,r Correct, with years of Practice it becomes AWESOME...Practice.. the average Pratice... The gifted a Gift...
Poor guy you do not know the heck of guitar playing, perfection my butt!! Pepe is good indeed, but perfect? hahaha no way! just listen at 2' 08" what'd happen there? Thus, when you mentioned the 100 years, you spoke by yourself, indeed. won't hurt learning about guitar players either.
