The Americans didn't want to listen to the Brits but, the Brits weren't too bad at jungle warfare.

The British are among the best global militaries to handle jungle warfare. I mean you look at the ghurkas and think “how did they end up in the British army?” It’s because the British conquered Nepal after fighting against the ghurkas and they thought so highly of the Nepalese fighters that they recruited them. Nepal pretty much provided the best training for jungle warfare and even now those tactics are still exceptional for modern warfare. It’s no wonder how the British handled Malaya so easily compared to America (I know there were more Vietnamese insurgents than Malaysian insurgents but tbh the US and especially the French did not treat the Vietnamese well at all).

By Borneo, the Brits and ANZAC's were pretty good at Jungle warfare. I sometimes think the yanks felt put out that the Commonwealth forces had stopped communism at Malaysia and they thought they could at Vietnam.

British troops were known for nonchalantly making a brew up during a firefight. This is the case even in more modern wars, alike the Falklands where a squad of British soldiers were pinned down by machine gun fire. Since they were not going anywhere, they sat and drank a cup of tea for a few minutes before soldiering on.@@XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX981

* A piece of cloth on their hat meant for identification with 'friends of armed'. High command issue certain password and color among their units discreetly, every day to avoid intrusion from foe. Every unit have their own style to wear the color, stitch to hat, armband, scarf etc. * The squads have no rank insignia on their uniforms. To confuse the enemy thus avoiding certain target to high-ranking personnel. * This is prowling squad one of the duties of a soldier in operation mode. Other duty is guard and standby, kitchen steward might be considered a duty to some troops. * There's also daily report to administer beside occasional intelligent report and periodic information.

We still use those portable/tommy cooker instead of self heating ration packs in Malaysian Army. Partly because our army are cheap but more importantly the men preferred using tommy stove as thr food cooked more thoroughly and these stoves could be used to cook so called "live" rations like fish, jungle fowl etc.

This British troops were like a fun trailing mission for them. There are not so heavily stress after the 2nd world war. Totally different from the Japanese war in 1942

By 1953 the threat was not as severe. The worst years for the emergency was the first 3 years (1948-1951). The British haven't fully planned out and executed a strategy to starve the insurgents then. Only after starving them out and having more experience in the jungle did it became easier though it is never easy being in the jungle especially an old one.

Did you know about The Malayan Emergency from 1948 until early 1960s. That does not include The 2nd Insurgency after Malaya gained independence from 1960s to 1989.

Supposedly was a very good system as well that did not jam nearly anywhere near as much as the competitors (Thompson, Sten). We should have adopted it as our main gun.
