As a figure skater who started older than the average, I'd love to see what Ash could do if he took a handful of actual lessons and decent skates.

I mean he did the best and not bad, but he also can barely turn on the ice. Im all for being positive but this is like saying I could do gymnastics really well with a few lessons because I can hang from a bar and do pullups.

Haha I’m a figure skater and been waiting for this one. You guys actually did really well. I coach skate school as well and often the beginners won’t even let go of the wall the first day.

@@HainekoMikemalcom I skated as a kid on the frozen river in back of my house. When I was in my 40's I took formal lessons with my daughter. It was great fun and wonderful exercise. Hope you get a chance at some point in your life to try it. Have you ever tried in-line roller skates?

Anyone back watching knowing that Nile is doing Dancing on Ice? Excited to see what he can do now he has actually be training. Would absolutely love to see all 3 of them do this again as Nile would out show them all 😂

Yeah Nile was actually the worse, he spent most of the day sprawled across the ice, I was surprised he was willing to ever wear skates again..😂

Love the energy and that you allways give every sport the respect it needs. Every sport is different and hard in each way, and as a former both gymnast and figure skater it was pure joy to watch this !! Ps. Retired US adult figure skater and recently retired figure skating official here. You guys didn't do too bad, you were trying some skills that take our kids months to years to learn in the US Figure Skating Learn to Skate program or private lessons.

Hahaha! As a figure skater and a gymnast, this was great! What you guys were doing was just the very tip of the iceberg on how difficult skating is. Spirals alone are generally very difficult for a lot of people, doe the flexibility that's involved to keep one's leg at horizontal or above (you don't pass skating tests without the free leg being at least a 90 degree angle). Plus, very little of skating happens on the middle/flat part of of the blade. Most of it happens on an edge, and it's even more fun when you land a jump or exit a spin while on that edge. For a first time being out on the ice, you guys did great!

I appreciated that she said skating is all on angle and that most just try to stay flat as thats where our center of balance wants to be. I thought because I was good at skating that I would be good at ice skating and it was similar but soooo different in that I wanted to be flat and couldn't. Ash was a natural in that he picked up on the fact he couldn't stand perfectly straight in the boots lol

As a coach, this killed me a little to watch, (your knees need more bend, shoulders need to be straightened up, and keep your arms up for balance if you ever go again) but you all did really really well! I love to watch you try new sports and just have a good time learning new skills, and just adore the positive attitude you bring to every challenge. You seem like you are having a blast, and that's the best part!

I’m so happy to see this. I also switched from gymnastics to ice skating. It was pretty easy especially the balance part, and having a strong body. I just missed training and competing after an initial month of classes, I joined an adult skating group and it was so much fun. I’m not surprised that all of you are taking to it easily! ❤

Brilliant..... I worked at the rink in Coventry for a few years.... Taught quite a few kids to have confidence on the ice..... on their first time on the ice.... AND they were away!! You lot did exceptional :-)

I've not been ice skating since the world crashed, got my boots and my eldest daughter boots in the car ready for a time to go. I'm crap but I miss it so much, I just go into my own world chilling out floating on the ice

I watched a video yesterday where a professional ice skater used the rental boots, and even they said that rental skates don't allow people to do certain tricks. I don't know all that much about it, but next time, try this challenge again with professional boots instead 😉

they're actually doing ridiculously well for newbies, probably due to being athletes in a sport that emphasizes core strength and body control! your average newbie honestly struggles to even go forward, much less balance on one foot... much less do crossovers, show stops, and waltz jumps! this is super wild!
