His number 1 spot imo, Atlanta. Matt Ryan would be the perfect quarterback to help Malik Willis refine the parts of his game that are serious weaknesses because he’s had to make do without the athleticism.

I would probably say the Steelers are likely a better landing spot, but Atlanta is definitely up there as well. Really any team that wouldn't rush him into a starting role and would have him sit for a year behind a veteran is probably his most ideal spot.

Only going through 1 read was greatly due to his offensive line. He was sacked 51 times last season. Watch his Jr season games where he had better protection. He is capable of going through reads, but the offensive line play made it difficult to do that. He is raw though, but incredibly talented.
@12jswilson
@12jswilson 2 года назад
I turned on Old Dominion. He dominated on first reads (and generally throughout the game as he should). I counted that he got sacked 4 times. I put 3 of the sacks squarely on him and not the line. His line wasn't good, but he also didn't help them much as seen in this game where his line did dominate. His pocket presence is pretty oblivious. He seems to scramble when he doesn't like the read, not when he's under pressure. I saw a sack against Ole Miss (where his line got dumpstered all game long) where the RT got beat, but Willis could have stepped up, slid, or not be a sitting duck. Maybe he gets out of it, maybe he doesn't. Instead he just took a sack straight to the face Nick Foles-style. I also think his contact balance is overrated. I saw him get arm tackled a lot. When he did break solid contact tackles, they were against much weaker competition. He's extremely shifty, but he's difficult to tackle in the same way Tarik Cohen or Kyler Murray are difficult to tackle. You just can't get your hands on him.

I've watched numerous games and scouts say the same thing hes a project who needs to develop more in the throwing game. He will go in 1st Rd because of a weak QB class and teams get desperate for qbs. If this was even 5 or 6 years ago he's be 3rd rounder

They get to talk to the players. Josh Allen was worse on tape than Willis. Justin Herbert was the joke of the scouting community cause he was like Mitch Trubisky but with elite arm talent. But it turns out Oregon’s qb developments and play calling was dogshit. That’s stuff that the average at home scout or online scout can’t define. Just like Robert Nkemdichie or Justin Gilbert, you never know when a player will be lazy and happy with a couple million dollars.

This is the thing with looking at these kinds of QBs for me: at this point, I feel like it's a total coin flip whether he's gonna pan out or not. Regardless of where they go to (see Allen to buffalo, Burrow to Cincy, Herbert to la, etc), it feels like the most important thing is gonna be his ability to make reads and maintain confidence. Allen wasn't all that accurate in college, and Herbert SHOULD have been way more accurate considering the fact his team ran more bubble screens than just about every major program in the country. With Malik, as with just about every one of these boom or bust kinda guys, I think where he goes is gonna be absolutely crucial. Gone are the days where someone as good as a Russell Wilson will slip due to atypical size. If he goes low, he's probably gonna be at best a career backup. But if he gets taken somewhat high, either that team is panicking, or they're gonna have SOME kind of plan for his development that they think can make him successful. This draft class is not very deep (or particularly eye popping) in the quarterback department. So there's certainly a chance that a team looks at who they have now, looks at what's coming up down the pipeline, and says, "eff it, we GOTTA at least try and build this kid's game, cause we can't stand pat"
@brianrochelle688
@brianrochelle688 2 года назад
Comparing this kid to Josh Allen is really naive. Josh Allen is substantially more talented than Willis. He just throws the ball to a spot 70% of the time. The only thing that will cover for his play will be the fact that the Titans are a run first team. With Derrick Henry and Haskins will carry Tennessee for a couple of years before Vrable and J-Rob realize Willis isn’t a NFL quarterback and move on. I can definitely see a couple of 5 - 8 win seasons coming.

As Giants fan, I see some fans and content creators that praise Willis and wish we take him in the draft. I never really trusted their assessment as the consensus, which you eluded to, is very much down on him compared to when the college season began after Rattler was bad. Now, I do not watch tape myself and am not a scout of any sort, but that’s why I rely on many different sources to come to a conclusion myself if I want certain players with the Giants (I know that’s not a perfect system, but I do not fully understand everything about tape and the traits needed). None of these sources see him as a clear 1st-Round pick and from what you have very clearly outlined and with great detail and explanation. For me the red flags that you mentioned are very much similar to the problems that Daniel Jones has in the NFL. First read QB that does not really struggle with accuracy, but with mental processing and is not a natural QB (like Burrow, Mahomes …). Obviously Willis‘ potential is probably a lot higher, but these red flags make me worry, because DJ has not really panned out. You always say if this would go in his favor, he could be great, but he always seems to struggle. Certainly, there is a part that could be blamed on our organization, but I don’t want a QB in the 1st that has the same problems again, especially not in the Top-10. With our 37th pick maybe or at the top of the 3rd with the 69th pick, maybe trade up to the end of the 2nd if he falls. I‘m certainly excited by the traits that Willis has and I believe in our new HC in Brian Daboll and (maybe) Ken Dorsey as our OC to be able to develop Willis because I have the trust that they would be capable to do it, however it would still be difficult and risky. I think it would make sense to let Willis sit behind DJ for a year and let him develop to step into the starting QB spot in 2023. Obviously that depends on the new regime liking him. Also taking him in the 2nd or 3rd does not prevent me from taking a Franchise QB in the 2023 draft if next season turns out horrible and Willis has not played well when and if given the opportunity. What do you think, Marcus, is taking Malik something that would make sense for the Giants?

The powers that be see the QB position changing and they'll do everything possible to stall and postpone that change. But with the speed and power of defensive linemen and linebackers increasing, this evolution is a natural occurrence. Its an arms race between NFL offenses and defenses. And nothing will stop it.

Accuracy + athleticism = at least a good backup guy, with some upside. What wasn't addressed much here was apparently in his senior bowl interviews he was very deep in understanding of defenses when working on the whiteboard. Give him a chance, coach him up. I think some of your video on not reading the defense and taking underneath passes is not dissimilar to R Wilson's flaws - they look for that deep ball first, second, then have to run. BUT you said he scrambles to run not pass, and yet the first three plays on your own video showed the opposite.My honest expectation is that Seahawks will indeed draft him as they were very impressed with his interview work and pro day deep balls, etc. An athletic QB with pocket escapability who can throw a deep accurate ball = they are interested. The new offense with lots of movement, sweeps and QB RPO most likely, means a decent fit. Re-sign Geno Smith to start at beginning, let Willis grow into it.
@Colstonewall
@Colstonewall 2 года назад
8:15 Yeah, he didn't read the Cover 2. However had he thrown the ball anywhere close to on time, he would've had a completion. He threw it so damn late is the only reason the Corner had a drop on the ball. That's not good at all.

If Pep Hamilton stays in Houston, id love to see the Texans trade back and snag him. Pep is a miracle worker and as much fun as it is to hype up Mills, hes most likely nothing more than a good career backup

I’ve looked at his film but not the all 22, which, from what I’ve seen in this video, appears entirely different. I still definitely see him as having Josh Allen potential, but his career will be decided by his willingness to work and the organization that drafts him. I’ve only heard good things about his personality, so I’m not worried about his work ethic, but if he goes to the texans for instance, he could be done before he begins. I love his talent and I hope the best for him, but he’ll be subject to the NFL process.

I got halfway through my comment talking about how he only has 1 read, then you said it. Guys in the power 5 are bigger stronger faster that would've never let him break this many sacks. Guys in the NFL, are the best of those power 5 players. I feel like Mike Tomlin could turn him into a superstar, but he won't be available in the second whenever they pick, and they need O-line or secondary in the first. Maybe a Tennessee or Washington would probably be the best fit for his success.
@nobelwarprize
@nobelwarprize 2 года назад
What do people see in him? Most of those broken tackles are sacks vs. NFL players. His deep ball is his best trait but I saw him throw into double coverage often. He struggles throwing short and intermediate throws. He lacks touch and arch on throws to the sideline. These guy Is predicting is going to be a bust, at best a career backup. Any team who drafts this guy in the first round, needs to fire their gm and scouting staff. I don’t see it. Why wast a first round pick on a QB who isn’t polished or is developmentally not ready for the NFL? I wouldn’t touch this guy prior to the 3rd or 4th round.

Everything you said is exactly what they thought about Lamar. He has clear red flags but also easily has more talent than any of the qbs in this draft. I think it’s gonna depend on the team that drafts him whether he makes it or not. If he goes somewhere that believes in him and take their time with good coaching then he has a chance. If Jalen Hurts can start then I think Malik can definitely be a starter.
@nobelwarprize
@nobelwarprize 2 года назад
Lies. Lamar was far above and ahead of this guy. Better passer and did it against tougher competition. Lamar actually had a heisman and was a starter since a freshman, people knew he was a far better prospect than this guy. Don’t ever compare this guy to Lamar. Lamar is literally a generational Athlete, who could be a starter at RB, WR, or even CB just so happens he plays QB and has a hell of an arm.

As an Eagles fan, I’m worried that Howie Roseman may actually truly like this guy and using an early pick (1st or 2nd rd.) would just be disastrous because he basically has a lot of the same and similar issues to our current QB, Jalen Hurts; you kinda mentioned it. It’d be like starting all over again and not utilizing our picks efficiently and we at least made some progress with Hurts and our offensive skill groups already, it’d just be dumb if we drafted him.
