Confused about how to connect stuff to the MAMBA F405 flight controller? I was too! In this video I'll show you how I connected my Foxeer Arrow Mini Pro FPV camera, Eachine TX805 VTX (with Smart Audio), and Fli14+ FlySky (iBUS) receiver.
FPV cam: 5v+, Gnd, Cam
VTX: VCC, Gnd, Vid, Gnd, TX1

I can see you watched drone mesh. 👍 Thanks for this vid. It goes over a lot of things other guys just brush over as assumed knowledge. You just showed me what smart audio is. I know FC's can do it but I don't care. Don't need it yet. But it's nice to hear how it works. Everyone else just says it has smart audio and never explains what it is. I just learnt it by accident without needing to look it up. Thanks for being informative. This sort of video can help a lot of beginners understand what they are doing. I'm wiring up this board right now. Bloody tabs are small. My board has an sbus tab under ppm. I'm just gonna use that. I use both ibus and sbus and I can't tell the difference. Thanks again.

**THANK U** I have the MK2 f405 mamba and was still able to gather enough relevent info to get this thing built confidently. Got my camera and vtx all clean connected. Still trying to sort out this connection issue between my radio and reciever though. It binds but I cant get any input feedback out of BF..... Not yet sure the source of the issue but i have more stuff to dial in on this quad anyways so no huge rush on it for me.

I'm sure someone has already said this, but for those of us with FrSky Radios, RX1 is for SBUS (no invert hack needed), TX3 works for Smart Audio (that's what I run at least) Awesome stack so far, I love it! Still tuning a bit, but I've uploaded a few flights with this stack on my channel. Keep up the good work Adam

@@jiayuyang6725 I think you might have a "FlySky" i6, FrSky doesn't make an i6. That was my biggest gripe with the hobby when I was picking out my radio, those two company names... but anyway, the FlySky i6 will use iBUS. One trick is to think of FrSky as Free-Sky (because nothing is free and you'll pay a lot more) and FlySky is just Fly-Sky (because it's affordable and you can just Fly.)

Hi, I have some issue to connect my R-xsr to my F405, for the telemetry do you connect the smartport inverted or uninverted to the TX3 ?

@@jogzUK I believe UART1 is the only one that's inverted on this FC (for SBUS), so I have mine wired to the un-inverted pad on my R-XSR (Any remaining UART should work, but 6 is already so close to 1 [which is where SBUS and 5v are] but I think 3 should work too, my smart audio is on 3 so I cannot confirm)

@@jogzUK But I can absolutely confirm that Telemetry is working for me with the following: RX1 = SBUS; TX3 = SmartAudio; TX6 = SmartPort (telemetry). The only hack is I am using UN-inverted SmartPort on the R-XSR, there's a pad on the X-XSR which you can solder a wire to.

@@RCwithAdam1 its ok we can't do one on one. I have another new friend that has been in the hobby for 5 years and knows his stuff too so im so grateful for the community!! He even has flown with mr steal and most the guys from rotor riot which is cool . They apparently live around my neck of the woods. Im using the momba stack and falkor cam not sure what the vtx is but its got a slot for SD card and goes up to 1000 mw . Im at the point where I need to remove the extra wire from the camera plug and solder the wire for the video smart audio to my fc and install the receiver and ill be ready to set up beta flight . I cant wait to get this thing in the air. Its my first build so im excited. Ive been flying for a little over a year now so im crashing alot less. Lol thx for all the help and the videos and bringing humor to the heck tick builds.

THANK YOU for this!! I just got the Mamba F7 APP stack and could not figure out why the F I couldn't get the S.Audio to work. I changed the TBS white wire to TX UART 2 and it worked like a charm. Not sure why the designated UART TX3 doesn't work. It's the one the manual says to use. Nonetheless, thank you.

This stack looks a little different from mine but it is the muba stack so im guessing it should all be the same still . The pads don't have holes in them on mine.

i have a mk2 f405 and was wondering if these connections work with it as well i have the same receiver as you but when i plug my drone in there is only a red power light blue channel and red band is this right as i am having trouble connecting to my goggles

Hi Adam I just built a 5 in with mamba f405 Mkii and rdq mach3 vtx . I have osd issues . In your video you said your vtx wouldn’t work on tx3 you used tx1 . I wanted to now what issue you had with your vtx not working on tx3 and what caused you to use tx1 . Was it to fix osd issues or some other reason

Hey, nice vid! I want to solder external mic to Mamba ESC/FC if possible, the mic is 6-12V... I can't solder it to Mamba VTX because my VTX is closed variant (Ultra 1W VTX). Any advice where if possible to wire external mic that has 3 wires (black, red and white.. white should be for audio, black for power)?

Hey RC Adam thank you for the video, last year I bought the Diatone mamba F405 stack just completed the built, I connected the 5 volt cam to the 5 volt on the right side of the pad near the USB port, when I made an attempt to power up the drone it comes on with a single beep or so and it shuts off but when you connect to the computer through the usb it comes on. Due to wiring that is incorrect would it resolve the issue when I try to power it on all the way? I would appreciate your guidance from anyone thank you. First Built

Does it work to connect an X6B i-BUS receiver to it? It says nothing about I-BUS, but only mentions S-BUS on the banggood page for the MAMBA F405 stack.

You must connect the ibus into the same pad of sbus. Then you go to betaflight and select the ibus protocol

Will the way you wired the receiver work for the fs ia6b receiver also because it supports IBUS but I’m using ppm rn. For some reason I couldn’t get any inputs from the TX to RX using ppm so I’m hoping to wire it from somewhere else and it’ll work.

Hey man great video! Ive got a mamba on the way to build up a "fly in the winter" quad that I can bash around. Just wanted to say that I started with the FS-i6X as well and it was a great radio, but i recently picked up a Taranis Q X7 with the R9M bundle because it was so cheap to buy them together and aside from having to switch out 4 receivers now i cant say enough good things about the Q X7. I would tell anyone now that i have it to start with the Qx7 and honestly if you upgrade before you have a ton of quads you dont have so many RX to switch out lol the R9M is awesome too. Check out horusRC they might still have the deal going and once you try the Qx7 the i6x will feel like a toy unfortunately...

Good points. I have no doubt that the Qx7 is a better radio overall than the FSi6X, but for me the form factor is just too bulky (I've got my eye on the Frsky X-Lite). What's cool though is that, since you started with the flysky, you can really appreciate the upgrade! (lol and yes, the i6x does feel like a toy!) 👍

@@RCwithAdam1 One thing I will caution you about on the x-lite is that it has extremely short gimbal stick throws. I got to try one before I got my QX7 and it has even shorter throws than the fs-i6x. The main thing I like about the Qx7 (besides its form factor and ease of navigation) is that although the slightly longer stick throws take a bit of getting used too, they offer a really nice zone around center stick for making small adjustments as your setting up to hit a gate or a gap. I tried changing expo, control mid points, all kinds of things to replicate it on the flysky and i just couldnt get the same feel. The last point il make is that the Qx7 takes the R9M. I am by no means a pro pilot but the peace of mind i get with the R9M is really nice and with the sales on right now you can get a module and 4 receivers for like $60 US which in my opinion is like free money... Think about it though man because switching back to the flysky from the taranis I feel like i lose a ton of resolution in my control... sorry, that ended up being another friggin novel..

Good question. I think it will reduce noise in the video signal, but honestly, I'm not totally sure. Also, it is easier to just solder it rather than have it dangling around.

@@TheOak82 Hi! Not a stupid question! No, you don't need to solder both red (positive) wires to the board. (the other red wire is for if you wanted to power your camera from the vtx).

I have one question about the TX805 Vtx and the input voltage it receives (7-24v). If we connect it directly to those pads you pointed on the video, what would happen when we connect a full-charged 6s battery? If my maths are right, it would provide more than 24v to the Vtx, so wouldn't it get burnt?

Based on those numbers, it seems like it would get fried on 6s. But it also would make sense that the vtx would be rated for 6s if it's advertised as 24v input capable. Only one way to find out, I suppose!

Hey nice vid man. I'm wondering if you could use tx3 for smart audio. I'm running frsky r xsr and was going to try and use 5v gnd and tx1 for receiver and fport. Vic gnd and tx3 for vtx smart audio. Trying to keep the build as clean as possible. Thanks for any help

That sounds like it should work. But I think you'd need an Rx pad for the receiver. Also what is fport?

Hi! I don't think so. My understanding is that the smart audio and rx need to be on different ports. But maybe just try it and see for certain.

Hi! I know RX1 works for Sbus, so TX1 should work for Sbus also. Actually, I'm really not sure because I haven't used telemetry before.

No need to be sorry! I believe it does have solder pads for gps and other accessories, but I don't know how to go about setting it up. And I've never used a NZ Mini GPS or sonar.

Is the 5v grd you ran off the vtx even needed? The vtx is grounded on the vcc ground pad, and the camera is not running off of the vtx. I wasn't planning to use the 5v grd.

Hi! No. The PDB is built into the ESC board which is the second board underneath the flight controller.

UART6 should work fine. I think I've used it before for my rx. (Of course it depends on what exactly you want to use it for).

i got the same FC and a Mateksys VTX-HV i connected it to TX1 and not I am able to see the menu pop up on the osd and I can change my power channel and band but when I confirm nothing happens the LED on the vtx dont change but on the osd it changes to what I set it to. any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it

Do you have SmartAudio and the VTX profile setup in betaflight? If you don't, the Smart Audio won't actually work.

I haven't tried this myself, but another viewer Christie Watson commented in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eV_GNH5QVyo.html "Go in power and batt. tab and make sure both voltage and current sensors are set to onboard adc. Voltage scale is correct and amperage should be set from 400 to 169 and current draw/ batt voltage will be correct". Let us know if it works for you.

No, it's not necessary unless you are using 6s batteries. If not 6s, a capacitor may contribute to a better video quality for vtx

Mine says sbus on the left pins. From front to back on the left gnd 5v ppm sbus

This is odd your receiver should be connected to rx1 for Ibus, the VTX goes to TX3 and you should try powering your camera off of the 5V out n the VTX.

DO NOT CONNECT THIS VTX TO VCC IF YOU ARE FLYING 6S. Was obvious that 6s voltage on charged battery is 25.2V. I knew that but after your video still decided to connect. Another part smoked as a result.
