A lot of people in the same boat Bro. And even worse off. I live in Lake Arrowhead in Southern California and I just spent 14 days snowed in before a plow came down my road. I have lived in Mammoth, and Lake Tahoe. This is CRAZY for this place. Good luck and God bless. 👍
I hear fatigue in your voice. You've got to be exhausted. I did the snow game in Mammoth for 9 years long ago. Last was 82-83. 553 inches that year total. Brings back bad memories. Blew my back up shoveling all that snow. Never been right since.Go as easy as you can. Glad you have good equipment. Makes a big difference. Stay safe. Summer has to come at some point. Thanks for the videos. Now people believe my snow stories.
That dent is a memory in the story of your truck. It will be the epic snowstorm dent. Pop it out enough to get the light to seal and call it good. I have a crease in my tailgate from backing into a gate at my daughter's farm. It buffed good enough and it always reminds me of that week at her place.
I appreciate your excellent videos, they give all of us an insight into what it really takes to survive something like these storms. Try not to cringe too much over the tail ight, you must be weary. It's minor considering how much hard effort you've put into keep your garage, deck and roof and house in safe condition. Stay strong 💪
When you pull the old taillight out you should have access to push that dent out, a deflated soccer ball in through the taillight hole, and then inflate it in there and it should pop enough of that dent to get a new taillight to fit! Thanks for another great vid! Hang in there
As a heavy machine operator from a place that never snows thanks for the insight as to what it's like to live in this type of environment. It looks so nice from a distance but it looks tough
I've been watching the play by play of these mountainous blizzards. After this is said and done, you'll need to take that snow blower out to dinner. 😆 These videos are definitely a PSA to anyone wanting to move to the mountains. Because it takes a special breed of people to live there. Stay safe. Much love and hugs for your family from Decatur, Illinois.
Just a dinner? Take it to Tahiti, to one of those romantic little shacks on a dock out in the lagoon. Have a native girl give it a massage and an oil change. Let it bask in the warmth of the tropical sun, and gaze up in the languid tropical air at night, watching the Milky Way spin by.
I do enjoy your homegrown videos of life in Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra. I've seen others. I've only subscribe to yours. You do a very good down-to-earth job. I've been skiing for about 53 years. Back when I started, it used to snow like this up in Mammoth all the time. Driving up from Bishop was like going up a toboggan run. When a big snow dumped, very common for people not to see their cars till spring and they were pancaked when the snow thawed. Been sending this video out to other friends of mine who used to do ski patrol at Snow Summit. Nice visuals on your video & perspective of height and depth.
@@sherylturnerturner1352 the climate goes in its own Cycles regardless of man. Interesting if you ever looked at the high pitched roofs up there in Ventura and Oxnard at the old farmhouses the question is why? From Santa Barbara to Oxnard it was a wet area. They would normally get 20-plus inches of rain up there year maybe 30. Had to have the high pitched roof to sheet off the rains Where they moved a few those old farm houses at Heritage Square in Oxnard you can check out that architecture. Usually storm line would usually go toward mammoth. Dave McCoy who founded Mammoth ski in 1942 work for the Department of Water and Power and had to ski and check snow levels in the area. He was no dummy. Mammoth Mountain area was literally in a funnel from the Central Valley in Fresno and had the highest snow levels.
I was a kid in the early '50s living at the Hot Creek Fish Hatchery one winter when there was serious snow that closed 395. We could walk over the garage, but that's a bit lower in elevation than where you are. Maybe the Tuesday snow will be the last, and the melt will kick in. In any event, when it does start to melt I hope you continue to post so we can watch it all go away. It may be late April or May, but it'll happen. Hang in there!
I am seriously sorry for all your troubles. The truck should be easily fixable but that doesn't make it much less frustrating. I would be, and I am sure you are, concerned about the thaw happening too fast and causing even more disastrous flooding. Thank you for documenting this round of winter weather.
I’m just a retired geezer from the flatland midwest. Just checked my photo files and it was April 26, 2016, on a CA trip down 395 I pulled into Mammoth to look around. I skied MN hills when I was younger but not really my thing. I did buy a lift ticket and took a joy ride to top of the mountain and had a good look around. I’m flabbergasted to see all this snow!
Amazing your able to keep a level head (on camera) during this "mother" of a storm. Praying you stay safe and that roof holds that snow at bay. Thanks for posting and I'll keep you and the rest of Mammoth in my thoughts.
The the roof look at an electric toro power curve (not the power shovel) you can operate them from the side, one hand on the handle, one on the power control and remove show layer by layer. They are back savers and throw even wet snow quite a distance. I picked up mine for $50 on marketplace during the summer
Some serious snow accumulations ! PS - Nevada county had some building roofs collapse from snow weight when they couldn’t get snow off before the most recent storm. Guess Mammoth building code is tougher.
I like how the skid steer shows up AFTER you went through all the trouble of snow blowing your driveway. You know he was waiting around the corner until you were finished. And then he has the nerve to bury your Honda with whatever got left in your driveway!
Looks pretty. I can't even imagine how tough it is to live in place during the epic storms that you have received. No place to put the snow that gets moved seems to be the real culprit. I hope to see your grass one day and the rest of the street without all the berms. Give Rin some love from us.
I'm in the mountains of wa state and this was how we were last year. This year the snow was more spread out and not as much. Our snow is super wet from rain right now and it's like cement.
As a plow operator from Alaska, I strongly sympathize with the craziness you all are dealing with down there. It may not feel like it, but of all machines that HSS928 (or 1332 can’t tell) sure is the home machine to have! Stay safe! ❄️
Thanks for your amazing 'boots-on-the-ground' perspectives and positive outlook. I am an out-of-town Local, and relying on your updates and my security cams for a true view of what's happening. Be safe!
Watching your video now for the first time, new to the channel and really like what you’re doing so far. Keep up the great work! I have similar channel that I have just gotten started in Big Bear Lake. You got the wet snow and we got the rain 🌧️ 😅
So hard to believe. Please make a video showing the exact same view of spots when it fully melts. A certain tree, a house , a street corner, your driveway with your truck parked in the same spot. ect ect ect. Thanks. This is crazy
Thank you for the update. My condolences on your truck. You sure didn't need that. 😢 Sending positive vibes from southwestern Ontario, Canada, where the snow is also wet & heavy, but in considerably less quantity. 😉😁 See you next time.
Watching from Vancouver Island in BC and thinking the snow is great but too much is a pain to clear from the driveway, etc. Thanks for sharing your video and I hope you and your family stay safe through all the weather systems hitting your area. I have lived all across Canada and seen many a snow storm and huge snow drifts but your area wins the tallest roadside snowbanks! Be safe shovelling the roof! 🙏❄🍁
The Roof: The idea is to lighten the load; not clear it completely. Get rid of the snow shovel you now have. Its much to big and the weight of shoveled snow will wear you down quickly or give you a heart attack! . Find a shovel half the size and depth of the beast you are currently using. Clear the roof in columns as wide as your shovel. Clear a column of snow , move a couple shovel widths to the right and clear another column , skip a couple of shovel widths to the right, clean another and on and on. If your roof is 18 shovel widths wide and you clear 9 columns of snow, you reduce the load on that side of your roof by 50%. That will make a HUGE difference. Work 15, take 5, work 15, take 15. Keep yourself hydrated. See if you can find a friend. If you help me with my roof, I'll hep you with yours. The more friends the better. Good luck. Advice: Move!
Shoveling dosen't give heart attacks, not being healthy enough to shovel gives you a heart attack, most everyone who lives in places with this much snow are healthy just from the fact they shovel every day. Eat real food, if you can't kill it, grow it or pick it don't eat it, move your body most of the day, don't drink alcohol or smoke and you will be safe from fearing a heart attack.
So sorry about the dent! Being from Hawai'i, I always dreamed of living in the mountains, but my family and I moved to the banana belt of the Sierra Nevada in Plumas County. That's as much Sierra Nevada as I can handle. Best wishes with the rest of these storms - I love your dog walks.
We have 16 INCHES in the yard with another 12 to 18 coming Tuesday and I'm so done with snow. I watched your video and it changed my view of how bad it could be. Be safe and thanks for t he video.
I can’t forget the blizzard in winter of 74 when I was 9 years old and lived in Dunsmuir, CA, we got 4 feet of snow in one night! You had to see it to really see it’s impact, unreal.
4:40 I feel your pain! Nothing is worse than the berm left by the plows especially after it ices. I take my blower, back it up a bit and get a running head start like a battering ram! Only good news we are at 6,800 ft outside of Truckee so we have a bit dryer snow than you. Glad you are safe and digging out.
I like that after cleaning your driveway you went in the street and blew the snow you tossed there up on to the snow perms either side of the road. Good Citizen. Thanks for real time view of snow. We are getting some late snow which is stalling early spring yard work, but like that's an issue compared to yours. Still, who wouldn't want to live where you do, despite the snow, it's heaven on earth.
Those berms, as soon as you hear the equipment, you have to get out there. The ice is a pain to get through, as excellent as the hondas are. Love the videos. I lived thru the late 80s, smowmageddeden in Truckee as a kid on his own. You should be careful of your car under the snow; it may crush it. During that series of storms, I made a parking spot for my 82' Subaru GL hatchback on my Dad's lawn. Separate story ;)
The amount of snow is unprecedented the videos that your channel put out capture the record setting amount of snow and how life is happening as these atmospheric River storms roll thru the size of the snow on the sides of the road are ncredible I assume it will take all summer to melt some of the piles if it even happens there will probably be some of the bigger piles espically in the snow fields will last until next winter we are praying for all of you be safe and God Bless
Stay safe and warm. Hope you can get mote off your roof soon. As much snow that I have now seen between Big bear, Lakearrowhead , and where your at. I have no desires to go to the snow. Seeing all of it and the coldness is enough to keep me away.
I've lived in Mammoth and June Lakes a few times doing construction and then off for the winter. And in the last 35 years I've seen it like this and worse a few times. So it does happen on occasion. I've seen roofs collapse and June Lake Loop snowed in for weeks. It happens.
I hope this is the last storm for you guys. In central ca we don’t get any snow and I’ve always wanted to live in the mountains. But now that I see this, I don’t think I would know what to do 🤦🏽♀️ I will say 🙏 this is the last of it. I was sweeping water out of my backyard this morning and noticed the clouds were going really fast as well!
The village sends a big plow to move the snow from the streets to form large, high berms of snow in the homeowner's driveways. The homeowners emerge and blow the snow back into the streets.
That feeling of accomplishment when you clear those berms. But then they are all dashed when--minutes later-- the heavy equipment comes in and clears it in a few minutes! If you had only waited! (In my case, in the Village that I live, it usually means that they plow me back in when the plow goes down the street again just as I clean mine)!
The wet stuff does make better snowballs for pelting people you don't like so - silver linings. When I lived in Alaska we got all kids of snow depending on where you actually lived. In Chicago it was all that wet stuff and then it turned to ice and you fought every foot when driving.
Sorry that your truck was damaged, but a good paintless dent repair (PDR) guy can make it like new again. Hope tomorrow is a better day. Be careful and stay safe.
Thanks for sharing this. I have seen snow like this many times at Mount Rainier National Park (where they once held the world record for accumulated snow, until Mt. Baker set a new record), but I can't imagine having that much in my neighborhood. Sorry about the truck. That indeed sucks, but way to keep it all in perspective.
Hello from Washington! I've been watching your adventures with snow this winter as a means of vicarious living. Olympia keeps being skipped by the snow this winter, which makes me sad. Although I'm not a fan of shoveling Cascade concrete, so there's that. Stay safe and warm! ❄️❤️❄️
It would be nice if they brought some trucks to haul some of the snow away. The man power is not there where you live your the only one I see doing all the work. Stay strong pet your dog for me have a nice evening stay warm. 😊💙
There’s rumors of national Guard trucks coming soon to help truck out . They do have some troops north of us in a town called Mono City and Bridgeport to help with avalanches that cut off the main roads essentially trapping hundreds of people . Scary but so far everyone is ok
4:01 brings back memories of trying to use my snowblower in heavy wet late winter snow after the plow had gone by. Snowblowers are almost useless because the wet snow doesn't want to be thrown and it just oozes out like toothpaste. The leftovers of the storms that have hit you have travelled east and given MN it's 8th snowiest season on record. We'll probably be in the top 5 before it's over. Hoping that you guys catch a break sometime soon and that you get to see the ground again before the 4th of July. I wish you strength to see this out.
@@manuhonkanen2111 I’ve got one of the mods on my 2x ( the 3x models are way to expensive and require More shear pins) and I’ll say myself that’s to help with light snow as it falls between the impeller gaps..heavy snow will stick together and be thrown out easier
@@Jordan-ut8wx I've modded my impeller too and the only thing I don't understand is that why the makers of the blowers don't put flaps already in to the machines? It would help the sales to have a machine that won't clog up!
@@manuhonkanen2111 literally and even the bigger 3pt blowers where they claim “ the impeller gap is non existent” I can fit almost 2 fingers if not 3 between the fan blade and housing
Oh my God! You poor people. This is crazy. I'm curious as to why you don't have a plow on the front of your big pick up truck. Stay safe everyone and keep smiling. It will end at some point.
Had to deal with that everytime my street was plowed. If you're lucky the guy operating the bulldozer will dig out the driveway entranc ❤️e wall of ice lol When there's been a ton of snow they usually can't BC they're in a rush. The wall at the end of the drive way is basically ice like you showed, I had to use steel shovels and just throw the larger chunks by hand. Welcome to life in Canada ❤️ Although that's a absolute ton of snow you've received, where I live it's not that deep, thank god!! Hope you're all safe 🙏
Unbelievable what you guys are dealing with, a 'sister channel' of yours which I follow up there calls the snow, sierra cement. Glad you are having a 'just dealing with it' attitude, some of your neighbors are not 😉.. You are awesome keeping the world updated..
In hopes you, your family are warm, & safe. Keeping you in thoughts & prayers. So glad you keep us aware of what your facing in your part of the world. Sure hated that about your tail light. It can be fixed. Somethings you can't avoid. Here in Independence, Virginia, it's 28 degrees. We are under a Winter Weather advisory until 6 p.m., mixed precipitation, snow 1-2', highs 32 degrees. I showed my driver Friday your video, he was surprised.
Conshohocken PA here, once again I must say thank you, we haven't seen any snow yet this winter, and I've stopped complaining about it because I'm getting my snow fix from you and your channel!!
That's a massive amount of snow! Don't know if you already know this, there is a feature on hondas where the lever locks in as long as the other lever is held down, that frees up one hand to always be on the hydrostatic lever to go back and forth. Keep shoveling!💪
You all have worked so hard and the rest of the nation is in awe of you guys! Be well and hold the fort! Sending hugs and hot chocolate. Don't lose your sense of humor! Your teenagers have done you proud!
